changread
Hi all, My D2 52 plate has been in the garage for six weeks wouldn't open or start on the key, got the local key expert round said the car is recognising the key so my garage said the BCU is not responding had a go at sorting it didn't work so ordered a genuine LR BCU still couldn't program it, the chap seemed to know what he's talking about so now he's ordered three bits says it can't fail it has 198k on the clock but apparently can put my 90k mileage on it. what could the parts be he's ordered? Mike.
BogMonster
You can't program a 'locked' BCU but a factory fresh one shouldn't be locked.
dave88sw
The BCU is linked to the engine ecu and the key. If you were to take those 3 items from a known working td5 discovery and put them in your vehicle, it should work straight off. Whenever i've had issues, ive fitted a bcu with matching key but programmed it to learn the security code from the ecu. You should be careful doing this though, the bcu stores the mileage, as does the instrument cluster, if there is a mismatch, the mileage will flash on the odometer. If you tell the bcu to update, it will store the higher of the 2 mileages.
sierrafery
I have the feeling that you'll pay a fortune for somebody's incompetence, it's no way to not make the alarm/central locking to work with a bran new BCU as long as THE BCU WAS THE PROBLEM, aproper tester is used by somebody who knows what he's doing , a key specialist without dedicated D2 diagnostic software can't tell you that the car recognises the key or not, the specialist should have disarmed the immobiliser using EKA code then start to diagnose cos it might be the RF receiver at fault in the first place .... not good
changread
Thanks for the reply, Will I lose my remap? and I don't want the higher mileage, think I will ask him to put it all back recover it to my drive and find someone in the Swindon area to fix it. sierrafery
The remap has nothing to do with the BCU and for the mileage important is to not sync the odometer with the BCU only disable the odometer error warning and you;ll have what's on the odometer without any change
changread
Thank you all once again for the very constructive comments and its all starting to make sense. My car has now been recovered to James French Landrover Specialist (hope they are!!) after speaking in depth with a chap out there said he could sort it - in fact said if he couldn't he would pay for the recovery back!! My garage organised the recovery and to date haven't paid a single penny. Where can I get the EKA code?
sierrafery
You can find out EKA for the original BCU which was on the car from a main dealer based on ownership evidence, though is changeable with tester so there are chances to not work but usually it does cos to few are knowing how to change it
