Dave 63
Gents, just received black wing chequer plates minus Ariel hole in o/s one. Best way to fix them rivets/ counter sunk bolts, and do you think it's worth drilling the plate for the Ariel, relocate the Ariel on the roof? New to Landy scene, any ideas please Cheers
PaddyMac
Hi Dave, This topic was covered on here before, so in case you want additional info check http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=29847 I used alloy rivets with a bead of silicone sealant inside the edge of the chequer plate, but I have to admit I think countersunk screws do look a lot better.... Snagger
Countersunk bolts look better, but they will be steel and will result in corrosion of the plate and the body panel underneath it. Aluminium alloy rivets will avoid this. It also avoids the possibility of someone undoing the bolts to steal the plates (assuming they had been used in conjunction with rivnuts, which would be the neat and easy method for bolts). mmgemini
I HAVE to be different. I countersink the holes. Then use button head screws... I did say I was different.
landroversforever
Countersink and then use button head screws?! I assume you mean countersunk screws?
mmgemini
Countersink and then use button head screws?! I assume you mean countersunk screws? NO BUTTON head screws I let the heads into the countersink
landroversforever
What gain do you get from the countersinking then mike? The profile of the countersink and the buttonhead have nothing in common!
mmgemini
AH !! Yes you do. The button head screws go inside the bars of the checker plate, If I had a means of just taking the "bars" off the checker plate I would do that instead.. landroversforever
Ahh I see.
