muss12
Trying to sort the nightmare of wiring that the person before put in, just stuck with the USB socket, I've got a raptor dash and got the cig socket and want the USB socket in as well, but wondered does it have to be wired into the ignition feed as well? qwakers
depends? do you want it permanent live or only on when the ignition is?
muss12
Answering my own question now aren't I, ignition feed would be best, but can I run straight off the battery with a inline fuse?
qwakers
yup.
reb78
What USB connector are you using? I want one that will charge the ipad on the go, but they all seem to be £25 plus.
CwazyWabbit
If you run a USB connector off of a permanent live I'd be tempted to see how much power it consumes when idle.
muss12
It's a mud uk one red78, I don't think my battery would last long with a permanent live

Shows my ignorance - I didn't even realise their would be one....
CwazyWabbit
There are a number of ways to drop the voltage from 12v to 5v, some are more effecient than others, some create more electrical noise than others. They will all have some amount of current drain even without anything connected to the output, although if they are properly designed it should be tiny (note, not everything is properly designed ). reb78
It suggests 15mA I think? http://www.bluesea.com/products/1016/Dual_USB_Charger_Socket/featured Those are the ones Mud UK sell. I always thought that figure needed a time factor to it as well like 15mAH?
qwakers
if it draws 15ma then youve got a couple of months before it even begins to flatten the battery.

If it draws 15mA then in one hour it will draw 15mAH So if you have an 80AH battery you are good for over 5000 hours as qwakers says
