Rear Crossmember -110

Recommended Posts

A tiny hole in the 110s rear crossmember is a bit worse now after a serious prod, realistcally t'other side isn't far behind so given the amount of offroad towing of a sanky I do I reckon its worth replacing the whole crossmember.

So the question is, who do I buy one from?

Paddocks have these:

or these:

Devon4x4 - Bearmach

Anyone got any experience of the Bearmach one? good fit or the usual big hammer required?

Will :)

I'd try and get hld of this chap:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/land-rover-defender-90-110-heavy-duty-rear-cross-member-not-td5-/140670233619?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20c0996c13#ht_500wt_1156

I know the auction linked has finished, but i cant find any of his active auctions. There is a rumour that he is stopping land rover work which is a shame as his crossmembers are getting good reviews on the other forums. I beleive is is 'pressbrake' on LRO and landyzone forums.

a pic of one fitted:

(i have no link to him, but its where i would go for a replacement if i was after another one - much better than what i bought from another LRO member!!)

Hi,

Clive fitted one of his rear crossmembers to my 110 this year. Clive is one of the good guys.

Outstanding work @ a very reasonable price. I`m not sure if he is still making and fitting crossmembers,

It will be a shame if he has, they are the best crossmembers made.

Have a look at his web site www.blacksheepoffroad.co.uk/

Righteehoo, crossmember has arrived from Clive at www.blacksheepoffroad.co.uk/ It looks jolly smart too :)

So, it'll be nailed to the 110 in the next few days, then I need to slap some paint onto it. Any suggestions? The 110 spends most of its time driving gravel tracks and sloshing through water so it needs to be fairly chip proof. I was going to just primer it then slap several layers of Blackfriars black over it then a ton of waxoyl. What would you do?

Will :)

I would do what you have suggested, but maybe change waxoyl for underseal. Halfrauds sell some stuff that is a mix of hammerite and waxoyl (and is half the price of waxoyl). I've used it on various bits before and it seems to hold up pretty well.
