  1. After 13 years it looks like I am going to have to part with my 200tdi 90. Since I cannot use it to transport my 2 young daughters I find that I am hardly using it and use my car instead. So now is time to have one vehicle for all purposes. But do I go for higher mileage d3 or older higher spec d2? Which is likely to be least problematic? Any help appreciated....
  2. I have a pair of exmoor trim fwd facing rear seats for my 90 but they are vinyl and the fronts are techno. Does anyone know of any retrims available (or seat covers)? I have tried Exmoor Trim but they do not supply replacement covers.
  3. I am in the process of getting the truck ready to fit forward facing rear seats, so I have removed my inward facing seats and headlining etc and am doing a bit of soundproofing - using flashing tape on roof and around rear windows etc. But what can I use on the tub floor & wheelarches? I currently have carpet, but nothing else. I am thinking along the lines of flashing tape, then layer of rubber matting then carpet. I cannot afford to spend a fortune on this but any other suggestions of good alternative would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Thanks Ralph I had already read that info on that link but I was under the impression if you turned up at the office they could process everything, give you a new tax disk etc on the spot. Just wondered if anyone had done it recently. So you would drive into the car park with one number plate, go to the office, change plates and drive home on your new plates.
  5. Has anyone transferred number plates between vehicles? I need to swap the private plate from Mrs MG's car on to mine as we are reducing the fleet. So - if I take all the docs to the local DVLA office can I do it all there and then or do i need to wait for the new docs to come back in the post? I have only ever had them transferred by dealers when buying a new car so not sure of the process. Thanks
  6. Thanks all... sorry I did say I was tired and had not engaged brain. It is the rears and I do have alloys - so wheels need to come off. I have a very annoying clunk/ slipping type noise and vibration but can't get to the bottom of it. Have checked prop, diff and handbrake and appear fine so only thing I can think of care half shafts.
  7. If i was not so tired and actaully thought about it - I would probably know the answer to this... If I remove the half shafts can I put the wheels back on and move the 90? I dont think I have enough room to pull out the shafts in the garage - so will do it in the drive and then want to put it back into the garage. PS - How much room do you need to pull half shafts clear?
  8. There is a brand new style door seal on the newest Puma's. Have a look here ... http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic6370.html?highlight=door+seal I have not fitted them yet - but they look pretty good.
  9. Thanks Landy V8.... The plan has now changed and is no so much of a rush.
  10. Guys .. I am looking for anyone near Peterborough that could help out a forum relay - I need someone that could store 2 forward facing seats to be dropped off on Friday evening and collected either Saturday evening or Sunday morning. (this weekend 2-4th Dec) I can get them from Peterborough to Scotland and have someone that can drop in Peterborough - but need them stored for around a day and a half.
  11. HI Quick question, I am thinking about a D2 TD5 - what are current Road tax rates? Cheers
  12. How do you check the diffs? I have a slipping/clunky rattle esp when reversing and most noticable at low speeds. It feels like it could be a UJ, but as far as I can see there is very little play in prop. Last time I took the rear prop off the handbrake drum had a huge amount of play and the mounting scew was loose. I will need to look at it again and while I am at it check diffs and transfer shaft - I am just not sure how to do either! ?
  13. I am planning a rub down and re-seal of my 90 using Schutz underbody seal. How much I am likely to need? I have managed to blag the use of a pit in a local garage, to give better access than lying on the ground, so don't want to run out half way through. So roughly how much underseal should I expect to use?
  14. yes, this was done long before the new black badge was even thought about and yes it is a very good fit - as good as the original steering wheel badge.
  15. Not the best picture, but it gives you the idea, the badge is a straight fit without being stuck to the wheel.
  16. The logo badge fit straight into the hole left by the steering wheel centre cap. (certainly fits on my 200tdi style) Will post a pic if I can find one.
  17. We might have a longer wait than we thought - According to Top Gear, the current Defender will continue until 2017
  18. I have heard of using flashing tape... so can it be used everywhere? ie roof, doors, floors etc? and is it just a case getting something like this http://www.screwfix.com/p/flashing-tape-225mm-x-10m/72438 Is this enough of does it need something like a foam or fatmat too?
  19. I am still trying to work out the best and most cost effective way of insulation my 90 both for heat and noise. Having been looking around I came across Noisekiller Egg box matting - does anyone have any experience of this? To me it looks very much like a decent quailty carpet underlay - is there more to it? Also on a similar note can anyone recommend a foam (or other) type tape that can be used to seal between the floor/seat box/sills etc. This was never resealled after my rebuild and I think a lot of my nosie and vibration is coming trhough the floor.
  20. As the title says really, has anyone experience of using shultz underbody seal to stop panel drumming, especially in the doors? I am looking at option to try to reduce some of the noise in the 90 and came across a can left over from my last chassis treatment. It states as one of its uses that it can be used to stop drumming but just wanted any feedback. Cheers
  21. Thanks guys. You have all echoed many of my thoughts. RRB - interesting thought on lost economical means of repair need to think further about that. I thought the friendship was worth more but alas not - I think it is the idea that I am trying to get a shoddy job or el cheapo fix done that hurts most. It is all down to trust and it is clear I am not trusted to get it done properly. The guy I use is highly regarded in the car modding and classic restoring world locally and his work is 1st class. Thanks for the responses
  22. Cheers stretch The advice came from another coach works - one of those places with spotless premises and glitzy office. Whereas my guy looks more like a back street place- but he is an old school panel beater and coach builder whose work is excellent and highly regarded. She has spoken to my guy but has "reservations" I am just trying to determine how much my policy is likely to increase.
  23. I have had a very slight prang in which I reversed my car into another car. My car is not damaged but I caught the rear passenger door of the other car. The car I damaged belonged to a friend and we were looking at the options of fixing it without going through the insurance. I spoke to a coach builder that I know well who said the job was a straightforward fix and would cost about £250. However, my friend got advice from "someone" who has said it def needs a new door and there is no way it can be fixed. She is now adamant that she wants a new door - this is likely to cost best part of 750-1k. Right now I just don't have that kind of money lying around - so at what point is it worth going to insurance? I have 2 policies in my name plus named on at least 2 other - i assume these will all increase with a claim. I do have protected NCB -but I assume this will not stop the premium increase. I have never had to claim and am not sure of the process. Thanks (sorry if this is deemed off topic - but if it does not go my way I may need to sell my Land Rover!)
  24. Does anyone know the legalities around putting children in the centre seat of a 90? Hi have 2 girls (5 & 3) and am looking at options - ideally I would convert the rear inward seats to forward facing, but cash is a bit tight at the moment, so I am looking at other options for short journeys. I have not tried it yet but I am fairly sure the booster seat and car seat will both fit - although the centre seat will only have a lap strap belt. Which leads to my next question is is possible to fit a 3 point seat belt for the centre seat? Thanks
