Hi
I've just bought a new 3phase miller 450 , had it about a month now and it seems fine , we also have a kemppi 400 inverter and have to say you can get a much nicer setting on the kemmpi
I suppose in time we will with the miller
There is a £100 difference in price between the two sets
We use ours for mainly structural steel but also general fabrication using 1.0 or 1.2 wire.
you're more than welcome (obviously depending on your location) to come and give them a whirl and compare the meerkat

Hi
If I were you I'd have a look for wrexham mud bashers , website here http://www.wrexhammudbashers.com/
I think it's run by a lad called Bagy who appears on here from time to time

http://www.autoandtr...s.php?prod=HU12 that's the one , if you look at the rear of the hitch by the shock absorber/compensator there's a clip/catch that you pop in so you can reverse .

Hi
I'm doing the same at the moment with a plant trailer but I bought a bradley hitch which has a catch to push in to stop the brakes coming on , I'll try and find one the same and post the link

Look. I'll be honest. I have nothing personal against ashcrofts. I have spent loads on their stuff in the past which is maybe why i felt let down a little.
I don't understand why you feel let down , Dave answered the phone and told you how to do the job which he didn't have to do , most people in business would have told you to pop it on a pallet and we'll fix it !

I've no idea I'm afraid... but it has been a couple of years! I chose it because it is solid, not a three-part assembly job. Fits on the inside of the chassis rails using the lower bumper bolts, plus two more at the back of the guard (one being the steering/drop arm thingy).
ok that helps a bit I guess I'll have to buy one and cut and carve if necessary I looked at a couple of pics on google images and it looks like most steering/sump guards pick up on the bumper bolts

Don't forget that I will be in a Toyota!!!!!
Ah now where's my photo of somebody removing there propshaft by a bridge in Dolanog because they were having trouble with difflock/4 wd on there T*Y*T*
And they say Land Rovers are unreliable

Hi
What make is your steering guard ? and which bolts does it fit on ? I've nearly finished making a winch bumper and then thought about where the steering guard bolts to and if anything I've done will be in the way
Thanks

Hi
I can recommend skan 4x4 I know they ship a fair bit of stuff abroad , ask for Warwick when you ring .
I have bought a few items off them and they are always as described , all bolts etc are undone as apposed to cut out with burning gear and Warwick is a gentleman.

given the fact you need/want to do some welding to your new chassis have you considered buying one in self colour ,doing the extra bits and bobs you need and then getting it galvanized locally it probably wouldn't save you money but atleast everything would be galved

Galvanising may be a sacrificial coating, but it should nevertheless last the lifetime of the truck.
That's it , you'll get 70 microns minimum at the galvanizers and it decays at about 1 micron a year ,obviously not if you live at the coast and back your truck in to the sea everyday to launch your yacht

Drizz ,
I don't think I'd bother painting the whole chassis but would paint the rear crossmember to make it less desirable to thieves
To paint on galv you can use mordant solution also known as T wash , you apply it with a brush ,wait till galv turns black (few minutes) then wash off with water and then paint

for the part numbers go to the 'request for part numbers forum' in the top of the thread list is a pinned link to a online Microcat parts list/diagrams & another link to parts books/workshop manuals.
Cheers Ralph , I'll give it a whirl
Am I missing something here? Surely the input shaft is longer so you will need the Disco bell housing, and the position of the transfer box will be further back and so the rear prop will need to be shorter and the front prop longer?
Or am I being a little thick..
I'll have a disco bellhousing with the box I purchase (I hope !)so hopefully everything will be tickety boo (famous last words)

The link you posted is correct, it's quite an involved job:
Thanks for that FF , will give it a whirl if I can't source a defender r380 for reasonable money .
Has anybody got a part no for the "quadrant on the gear selector shaft" ?
Cheers

Cheers Ralph , I know what you mean regarding getting a defender box to start , but to say defender R380's are a bit thin on the ground is somewhat of an understatement
-
Hi
I'm after a defender R380 gearbox and was wondering if it's possible to convert a disco R380 to suit a defender
I've seen this here and wondered if it's right ?
I've used the search option as well but it appears to be a job to get a definitive answer

I had forgotten about that - does anyone know where paul got the hinge from? I can feel another project coming on!

Hello
If you like the look of the alisport spare wheel carrier , have a look at spare wheel carrier pay special attention to the hinge and you'll find it's identical to the alisport one .
So if you/or know someone who's handy with a welder I'm sure you could make one for quite a bit less

I stayed there last weekend , my wife booked a surprise 40th weekend for me and a group of friends came as well , I can only say how helpful the people were , they lent me a cb aerial and a pair of wellies (er indoors forgot em) for the weekend.
They also gave me a memory map overlay for strata and some other lanes which made for a really nice day .
They really couldn't have been more helpful.
Cheers
