  1. After several hours of trawling through comparison sites and the world wide web I stumbled across these guys, which have got to be the cheapest insurers in the world . They will only insure modified vehicles, bigger wheels, snorkels ;) etc etc, but have brought my policy down to £214 fully comp. This also includes club organised events and green laning, as long as non competitive. Well worth a good look.
  2. I have recently bought a '99 TD5 after my 300 was stolen off my driveway and never found, thieving scum. I was paying last year about £340 with no no claims bonus as have always driven company cars. My job classes me as a professional driver and I have been through driver advanced courses, so you can imagine my shock when it jumped to nearly £900. I have tried all the normal compare sites and am getting nowhere. I have tried Adrian Flux that put me through to an operator who was connecting my calls to other insurance companies??????? Done a quick search on the forum but not much in the way of contact details or anyone in a similar situation ( no no claims and a theft, non recovered in the first year ). So my plea is HELP. Any information in the way of where to get a cheaper quote will be greatfully received. Darren
  3. Thanks guys. So it looks like I might have to give them a call and find out about just the cable. I take it from the tech part at the bottom that I have to put a switch in to disable the traction control if I engage the centre diff or am I being a doughnut and reading it wrong lol?
  4. I was reading LRO recently, there was an article in there about some Discovery 2's having a hidden diff lock. Have checked mine and I have the threaded bar sticking out the front part of the transfer box. Has anyone installed the diff lock on the D2's and if so what parts would I need and is it an easy conversion?
  5. Found this on eblag Is it any good or where would I be best off looking to invest my money?
  6. Got a price of £470 for 4 fully fitted from Micheldever tyres, the best price I've got so far.
  7. As title. I have a set of 18'' rims on my TD5, tyres aren't too bad at the moment, but will need replacing in the next 6 - 12 months. It's currently on 255 60 18's, but have been told that 255 55 18's fit quite well as well. Have been given a price of £129 + vat (£150 fitted) each fot general grabber all terrains. Does anyone know of anything better or any other tyre choice worth looking into? Cheers Darren
  8. Ric's contact number is 07771780148. Also can contact Andy 07833355424. Bumped into him yesterday at the sortout and gave me his business card which shows he is now calling himself 'Landy Spares'.
  9. My reply in no such way meant that you should do away with safety to have an arguement with an MOT tester. The whole point of my reply was that just because the MOT tester fails it doesn't automatically mean that it is law and has to be done. The whole point was to show that are appeal systems if you feel that you have been unfairly failed. My interpretation of the first post was that this was what he had felt as it stated only surface rust and not heavily corroded. Can't state enough that safety should come first, but you will find some MOT stations out there will fail it to try to get the work out of you. I shall finish my rant now and storm off in a huff.
  10. Not technically right. If you are to believe that he has been a bit harsh on the brake pipes you can always ask for a VT17 which is a customer complaints form which goes to VOSA, where they will contact you and arrange to assess your car. Normally the asking of the VT17 is enough for them to pass your car with an advisory. Unfortunately the MOT guide lines are very grey and are normally down to individuals interpretation, but from what I can remember the wall thickness of a brake pipe has to be considered damaged more than a third of its original thickness. As there is no way of determining the thickness of the brake pipe, unless cutting it in half to measure (which of course you can't do on an MOT), so as long as it's not excessively corroded ie leaking, it can only be advised.
  11. Yes, a dirty diesel for everyday use, but it has to be as i am building a V8 all the way for a play thing
  12. As title really. Somehow, I'm not sure how, I seem to of upset Les (Henson). He doesn't want me joining their Swindon 4x4 group as I'm from Berkshire and I quote ''I ain't messing around with Tear it ups old banger''. I only wanted to get my TD5 serviced by him
  13. Sounds like a plan. I deffinately would be interested and so would a couple of other people I know. Darren
  14. [quote Where did you find that price I've got one sat in my garage with wiring loom, switches and motors that I know all work. Willing to post if this will help. Darren
  15. Is THIS the poor mans version or is this really how it's done? Don't know too much about beadlockers, but thought you did more than cut your rims and weld these on?
  16. Recently been looking for a td5 disco and came across THIS, but what I want to know is what's wrong with it for the price or is this really how much they are worth?
  17. Would a double yoked td5 front prop work on the back?
  18. The picture is 1 of 2 turbo's that I bought off the lovely ebay. Not going to use the SU as I am hoping to use EFI and 1 single inlet. The other turbo is exactly the same as this one, but just for the other side. Was thinking along the same lines as the twin turbo effect, as you say found on the BMW's, but my knowledge is best of the Subaru's. The only disadvantage of this as far as I am aware is the valley of death as it's well known (the time between the first and second turbo). It will all be hooked up to an auto box anyway, so maybe in kickdown more than I should be lol. I may just stick with the turbo's as they are to try them as they are original V8 fitment and just adapt it to fit EFI. Any suggestions as to where this thread would be best placed or started again so as not to annoy the anti's?
  19. Yes, I have got the turbos and manifolds, was keeping stealth due to the negativity I have received for considering using turbos with the lag issues.
  20. Same as had to strip it down and clean it all up and grease it to **** not fun.
