  1. I am in the process of building a project and decided a V8 is the way to go. I may have found a set of turbos and manifolds. Has anyone ever done this before and would it be worth doing?
  2. With reference to this above, checking the DVLA website it states you can tax your vehicle online as long as it is insured and mot'd this will then show up on the ANPR database as having tax. This is all well and good as you can still be done for not displaying a tax disc, but you would be very unlucky. Quoting from DVLA website there is one downside The tax disc and the receipt for payment will be sent to the registered keeper’s address currently held by DVLA and should arrive in the post within 5 working days. Your best bet is to collect it on a day when you can tax it or hire a trailer.
  3. Have you thought about using coloured perspex (black) or maybe even clear with tint? The advantages of this, it should be as thick as glass and as strong as the steel. As for size I would say it's the same size as the hole that is cut out for the rubber to go into.
  4. Hi. Travelling down to see Chris (forkrentfitter) on saturday 10th January down in Felixstowe, Suffolk area and going round the whole of m25 as got to go to Gatwick on the way back, so if anybody would like some bits collected and either meet me on the way back or pick up from me in Newbury, Berkshire. PM me if this is any use to anybody. Have seen this on another forum and seems to work quite well, maybe we could all get together and have designated relay points. Cheers Darren
  5. From Gosport, near Gatwick to Newbury, Berkshire
  6. Put a wanted advert on the forum for 24 spline axles and a very nice bloke has offered me a set of axles, but they come with the rest of the disco. Been looking on the net to try and find somewhere to hire an A-frame from, but no luck so far. Has anyone ever hired one of these or does anyone know where to start looking?
  7. Maybe you should try what disco-ron said and leave her in the garage lol
  8. The weight is going to mainly be over the front axle because the trailer that I will be towing unfortunately puts too much weight over the rear axle and I'm dangerously close to maximum rear axle weight.
  9. It is a standard 90 chassis and I am using a discovery engine and box. I'm not too worried about tunnel as I will probably fabricate one myself. I know I've got to move engine and gearbox mountings. The main benefit that I'm trying to achieve by using a long nose disco gearbox is trying to put the weight as much as possible over the front axle.
  10. In the midst of my winter project and after changing my mind for the hundredth time I have decided on the V8 option. I have decided to run a V8 without the viscous unit and possibly a disco gear box with the longer nose cone. The box I've got in mind, that's still attatched to the engine, is an LT77. Just wondering if anybody's done something like this and what sort of problems I might come across. I'm still not 100% sure of the type of props I should be running. Would love to have the money to go for wide mouth carbon props, but this would probably end up costing more than I've spent on the whole truck so far, not saying I'm tight I just don't like spending money lol. I am a bit new to all this 90 stuff, someone has told me that you can use 200 or 300 tdi props and that possibly discovery front props are the same length?
  11. This is the kit that I meant. Click This saves the hassle of having to take them out and put them in and it also includes the transfer box which most people forget about. This kit includes front and rear axle, transfer box, bell housing and timing belt cover casing and enough tube to run the breathers as high as you like, even into the cab (a must have for lazy people like me ).
  12. click Just found this on eblag and wondered what you thought.
  13. I found a set of wading plugs for my 300tdi disco on eblag, quite a reasonable price and came with all the diff breather extending tubes. As for snorkle, depending on preferance but with eblag don't just go for the first one you see.
  14. I live in Newbury and there are alot of good tracks around here if you can find them. I agree that the os map is the best place to start and as you build up local knowledge you'll find the little ones that aren't and alot of these haven't been driven on for a while and not really for a novice but great fun with friends with winches and ropes
  15. Why don't we all club together and go round there and give him a visit? I'm sure he'd soon pay the postage then
  16. Sorry to hear of your loss. Will keep my eye out this side of the bridge. I also trawl through eblag alot so if I see anything I will let you know. Hope you get it back soon. Thieving f*****s.
  17. What type of engine is in it and what type of engine are you putting in it? If it's the same engine coming out as what is going in there shouldn't be too much of a problem.
  18. Do you happen to remember the letter that was stamped on the back of the locking wheel nut?? If so you can buy them individually from the main dealers or I have seen them on eblg. It might be worth checking on any paperwork you have as sometimes they may have put it on the original bill of sale etc.
  19. If you could measure it that would be great. Bloke's selling complete td5 bulkhead for £150, which is cheap itself but by the time I courier it down or go and collect it will it cost me more than £300 which I could buy one for locally?
  20. I am planning on buying a complete bulkhead from someone but they live a 400 mile round trip away. Looking into couriers but they seem to want to know the ins and outs of a donkeys back leg. Can anyone point me in the right direction or any techies know the height, width, length and approx weight that it would be?
  21. Good luck getting it back. Know it's a long shot but will keep an eye out round here for it. Hope they string them up when they catch them
  22. I find that tesco bean cans make for better exhaust repairs than lesser priced quality beans. Bringing it into line of topic for lr
  23. I have had a similar problem and bent the drive flange on the front prop shaft which threw it all out of balance.
  24. Where do you get your beans Tesco charge 29p a tin?
