  1. I had 3 belts go in as many months and they wee all fitted to spec and rechecked after i bit of umming and arring it was decided that the crankshaft pulley was to fault as it had a deep score in it and was sucking water in when hot and getting dunked into cold water as GBMUD and simonr has said above the thing to do is to fit a breather to the case just like an axle breather that is one of my next jobs but for now i have just stayed out the wet stuff and the belt has been fine even after tweaking the pump which would put the belt under more strain and all is well hope yours is the same thing as it is an easy fix but it is frustrating the first couple of times Frank
  2. All i have ever done is used a prybar or big screwdriver to lever the old one out and then a rubber/plastic hammer to tap it into place or a socket of the right size to just fit inside the casing and around the outer edge of the seal and i have had no problems with that so far Frank
  3. Blimey sounds just like one of my normal days when i am trying to make progress yet when i aint too bothered about progress everything goes swimmingly and without a hitch you just cannot win Frank
  4. Thats easy enough done im sure your not the first and you definately wontbe the last at least you are alright a hoists aint much better a friend of mine had a vehicle on a 2 post hoist and one of the legs some how gave way and pinned him against the workshop wall luckily it was only a small car but just goes to show that we take our life in our hands whenever we go near our toys Frank
  5. All i can say on the matter is yes you are right engine or box has to come out but also the flywheel has to come off as the seal is behind that the seals will generally lever out but often with a bit of persuasion its a shame as changing the actual seal is only a 5 min job Frank

  11. The bloke in the holes name is vic with his boy vic despite being in this hole for 3.5hrs he was quite a way up on the final placings and won the spirit of the event award Frank
  12. I have full details on how to set the pump up and have done a few without problems but you do have to be careful with them i have 35" simexs and my defender with a 200 tdi will sit quite happily at 80 mph and will pull in 5th gear down to about 35mph which i was quite impressed with over how it was when standard Frank
  13. once everything is checked hoses intercooler etc the best thing to do is open up the top of the pump and if the diaghram isnt split have a bit of a tweak of the pump it is easy enough to do and you can set it up as you like it and makes a world of difference you may aslo find that the previous owner may have knocked the pump back to get it through an emissions test HTH Frank
