Can you imagine the size of the overlanding pod you could bolt onto that!
-
I picked mine up today, very pleased. One top is brand new, the other in near perfect shape for its age. No stressing on the corners or signs of anything untoward.
i had to replace the ns door bottom with a new piece but given both doors cost less than a single top piece’s current prices new, it’s a small addition.

No sucking eggs here As i said, i'm very new to this and the roof is an ideal place to start ( as no one is going to see it! )
I'll keep in mind your advice and post the results soon!

Will do! Thanks for the tip.
Ill let you know how it goes.
Any reason why I cant just cut the lit with a grinder?
No reason, but it's abit extreme when a few penny washers and longer bolts to raise it above the small lip is all it takes.
You can buy specific rails but depends how you want to throw money at it

Paint is not atomizing properly. However, I do not know why it should get worse halfway through a pot, unless it is not properly mixed, or maybe rapid hardener that has gone off ?
What sort and make of paint is it ? What thinner/hardener ratio are you using ?
I would try smallest needle first, and maybe more thinners. Maybe you are too close. ?
Difficult to help without knowing more.
I’ve not used a laquer on it yet, I was considering this;
this seems ok. I’ll flatten what I’ve done and another coat then apply this.
do I apply the laquer when the final coat has just been applied?

It's a little difficuly with HVLP as the liquid is compressed in a malable liner with air, but i will give it a wiggle as i'm working it ( the pot is below the gun )
-
I've heard that raised seat rails work well in giving more leg room.
Although they move you backwards and upwards, the height is enough to push the seat over the lip.
Cheapest way is to use penny washers and longer bolts.
Some people swear by it

I've purchased a pair of Wolf front doors and looking to buy a set of alu tops for the 2nd row doors.
Finding 2nd row door bottoms isn't easy, but i will probably buy them new from SP4x4 unless a pair turn up from a later series/110.
i did find this which was very interesting and backed up what @Gazzar said.

None in stock though

I think, and i'm no expert either, that you would need the newton value of the gas ram to close it. If this is below 800 or even if it's more considering the weight of the roof contents which will ' help ' then it, as you say, it could well work or help overall by taking the strain on lifting a higher weight.
Can any of the weight be shifted forward on the roof to minimise it's bearing on the actuators? I'm thinking you're talking about additional weight added to the structure as an issue -
I haven't, but i'm intrigued if you get it to work.
it should be fairly straight forward i would've thought , but vehicle elastictrickery isn't my strong point. -
If anyone can assist here.
im getting odd results from the paint or perhaps I’m doing something wrong? I have an off coloured overspray. I’ve also noted that the spray doesn’t produce the flakes all the time. You can see on the back piece where there is a curve of discoloured paint against normal
guns are methodically cleaned and pots too after each spray. The discoloured effect happens after halfway through a pot ( the front was done last )
Maybe I should only do half pot and the refill rather than running it low.
any more pointers welcome 👍

‘It’s good practice for the doors which are arriving soon 😉

No pixel peeping!
this is the first ‘ top coat ‘ I guess, I had an accident with sprayer and in my enthusiasm didn’t tighten the locknut right up so I had leakage from my cup with all the waving the gun around so there are a few blobs here n there but not tooooooo bad.
There is some good news with the roof which I’ll cover next week, exciting stuff which has been the cause of the lack of progress and posting which I know you’re all quietly sad about...

I had a poke around one in the village the other week. Sadly didn’t get that much time as it was panto time!
Its a lovely place to sit and a really nice car. I just can’t help but think it should have been the new discovery. I had a look under the back of it and at the exhaust, which actually is pretty well tucked in the gap. Take a late classic defender and the exhaust at the back also hangs pretty low!
Overall, I think they’ve done a really nice job. I just feel that they could have done so much more with the styling. The front could have looked more defender, even if it’s just when the lights are on (like the transit custom, I’m sure their lights are the same spacing as a defender), and I have to say the rear is the biggest let down with the lighting and design cues.
If I had the cash, I’d have one in a heartbeat. I’ll always wish that JLR had made the defender more in keeping with the design and use of the old one, much like the wrangler is to the old Willys. But sadly for the size of a manufacturer like JLR, for the given cost of building a car, going away from the utility market they can make so much more money on a car.
I think the name ‘ Defender ‘ will help sales more than possibly Discovery 5.5?

Surprised no ones been asking what are you doing with the ‘old ‘ td5’s...

So when do we get the obligatory puppy pictures?

Glow plug fuses are fine, although i found about 10mm of water sloshing around in the seat box, but that's another job to sort at some point!
I've already infiltrated some transit forums...not as bad as Landyzone on a friday evening, but coming close in some areas
My thoughts were the turbo as i can't see where else oil could get to the rear of the exhaust, although it is worrying it's there!
When the timing chain is ready to be done, i may whip the head off as it's in a state of undressing somewhat, and it can't hurt to get a peek at the cylinders and bores.

It's a professional stunt production for the upcoming James Bond film.

You said they should have launched it with this video.
I'm saying that they did. This video came out at the same time as the product launch.
A quick google search shows this video as a day old. No news coverage of it previous to the last past 24 hours.
Of all the forums and media coverage and no one has mentioned this video previous to yesterday/today.
if it was done months ago, someone kept it very well hidden.
Early doors on a late Defender

The O/S is perfect felt wise as it's new, but the N/S is older and thus rattles like buggery. I've got some new stuff being delivered by someone to replace the felt with a rubber channel which is lined with a softer material and is apparently the bee's knees, i'll let you know!
The N/S door bottom was bought from Ebay;
