  1. hi i have just done exactly the same. it turns out that after market the shoes are slightly bigger to alow for the wear in your old drums but as you have new drums they are very tite. i took the drums back off and filed the shoes were they rubbed then put the drum back on turned it and to see if it was still catching then sanded some more. now thay work fine but i drove mine aswell and warped one so it needed replacing again so i wouldnt drive it until its sorted if i was you. good luck

  3. the springs on the little girl at the moment are almost 20 years old and very rusty these look brand new so im thinking for £20 i dont have much to lose thanks for the replies everybody ill let you know what they are like after the weekend (weather permitting)

  5. whith the springs i have what would be the best combination for the back of an early defender (1990)
  6. so what happens if i put 2 yellow and white on the back? i only need to change the back i am suffering from saggy bottom. well not me its the landy
  7. hi is there anybody out there who can tell me witch springs i have and were they go? reading this thread from the top its very confusing the first link tells me that the yellow and white springs are for the rear then somebody said the drivers side is blue and red but if thats so then were douse the other yellow and white go? has anybody got an 06 td5 90 with standerd spring? ps the coils are the same all the way up there arnt any tighter ones and the yellow and white are 15mm shorter than the blue and red and the blue and green
  8. thats the colour codes iv bean looking at but if thats true then i have 1 spring from a 110/130 and the other from a disco but that carnt be so. thay are both the same hight and thickness. the back ones are ok its just the front i carnt find i thought perhaps the td5 wasnt on that list or something
  9. hi i brought some springs off ebay from a 06 td5 defender but now i dont know witch one goes were i have cheked the colour codes but carnt figgure it out. i have 2x yellow and white (rear) 1x blue and red (?) and 1x blue and green (?). also is there a right way up?
  10. have you tryed to get the bolt out yet? sometimes with no pressure on them they just undo with a sharp flat headed screw driver. you can also get a drill bitt for removing wood screws with no head that way you may not need to drill it out
  11. hi i have just brought some springs for my old 90 they are standard 06 Td5 defender 90.can anybody tell me witch spring goes were? as they are coler coded and i dont know the code

  14. thanks for the reply. i gave the engine a good clean in the river arrow and washed the rest today when i got home so now i just need wd40 and fluid check
  15. the alternater started flickering and stoped after about 20 mins or so. the next trip around it was well over the bonnet and it didnt flicker at all and hasnt since. but from what you guys are saying its on the way out
  16. hi i went off road this weekend and finally plucked up the courage to do some deep wading.i noticed the alternaitor light kept flickering on and off after. i take it that its normal? is the battery ok to be submerged?
  17. thats exactly what i found out when i fitted mine. fitt the tub first and move forwards or you will spend ages trying to get the doors right
  18. if you use a dot punch on 3 places around the edge of the hot pot they will hold themselves in place but make sure the rim of the hotpot and the rim of the head that takes it are spotless or the hotpot will sit proud and the gasket will go again
  19. i think your spot on i took them back off for the third time they were bindong top and bottom so i filed and sanded them until the wear was eaven now they are working well. im doing the swivel housing,hubs and calipers next so i have no doupt ill be speaking to you all soon thanks for the input.
  20. i have done everything by the book. i removed them tonight and cleaned out the grooves that the shoe fitts in. it did help a little they are still binding but not as bad i think a few short jerneys should wear them in. it would be good to know what was cousing the problem though
  21. what do you think the problem is lez? when i tightened the drum screw they started to bind when it was loose they didnt
  22. hi i have just fitted new shoes and drums on my 90 i have just took her on her first drive and it was like towing a caravan i got about a mile and there was smoke from the back wheels they do seem to have eased a little now.is this normal when changing the drums and shoes together? P.S. the adjuster is fully undone
  23. thanks lez is there any efects in the engine driving it for a week or 2?
