  1. what you about to do then Steve? dont go too big SWC and CSW have 35" tyre limits.....

Well you see, I need all the grip I can get coz my winch monkey is getting slow and struggling to keep up. :D

Na, dont worry James, the CSW and SWC events are by far my favourates, specially if you keep making the punches technical like the one's on Saturday so I'll be sticking with 35"

  2. To be honest I looked at punch 5 and thought it was gona be a simple drive down bank, cross brook, drive/maybe winch up gully, punch then back out! It was a lot narrower than I thought and the ground was real soft on the right which made me lean into the overhanging bank. I tried to just push through but the soil was making the windscreen bow in so we had to pull off the cage and get the right hand wheels off the ground then winch to the punch! wasn't a huge problem but very deceptive!

  3. Yeah well done guys, you deserve it. But just you wairt till next time. No more alcohol for us the night before from now on....

    Ehh humm!!!!

I happen to operate perfectly fine with a hangover, Infact sometime's I work better that way!

As for you, We'll let you av half a shandy then your off for an early night! :D

  4. Excellent event.

Many thanks to James and everyone who helped out. The punch's were really good, I really enjoy the harder punch's and some of those today were just right. The Fish n chips were spot on and were just what we needed to sort us out after a very poor start/morning!

Thanks to OEC for the prizes!

Cant wait till the next one now!

  5. Steve you changing the engine cause its cream crackered? or going V8? if engine is good i can find it a home! ie ME

James, Its done 245,000miles, the last 5-10,000 running lots af fuel and 1.1bar of boost and mostly in low box, got a nasty knock and a worrying rattle a low compression and a head gasket that has blown throgh to a pushrod tube. Even tho head gasket is not a big job with everything else and the millage I feel taking the head off is probably gona be opening a can of worms so I bought a M.O.T. failure Disco and im gona pinch the motor and scrap/break the rest. Will probably keep the expensive bits off the old motor as spare's, Fuel pump, turbo etc.

  6. Used for comp and play days.

Front 8274 with 5.6hp bowmotor, 125" x 11mm dynema, albright. Fitted as I found the warn9000 I had before too slow and continually had trouble with overheating the brake when lowering out.

I looked round and it seemed like the best option. Simple design, simple to maintain and repair. trying Emergency repairs are no problem thanks to its simple design. good speed, easy to use.

So pleased with it I went out and bought one to replace my rear winch the very next week. Still have a 4.6HP warn motor on rear and I think the warn motor pulls slightly stronger if anything.

Even tho my main reason for buying a second 8274 for the rear was I liked the winch im also pleased with having two the same so I only need one lot of spares and I can always rob a bit off one to repair the other if needed.

And probably the best mod would be the winch bitch and in cab controls, saves all the hastle of getting the remote out and having leads everywhere etc etc.

  7. Right, Im just about to swap the motor in my challenge 90. Its a 200TDi (discovery type) thats running on a Freg 2.5 petrol transmission. While im at it I'll change anything else in there that may cause trouble any time soon.

I'll defo put a new clutch in, Ive been told a 130 clutch is the way to go! Are these stronger/better/longer lasting?

secondly I will put a new fork in as they are so well known for pushing through. Does anyone do a decent heavy duty/uprated one?

Third ive heard of people fitting heavy duty release bearings? Are they prone to trouble? Who does heavy duty one's if one is needed?

  8. £4 for fish chips and a drink, Delivered to site! So we get chips instead of soggy sandwich's that weve probably sat on by that time of day!If you ask me thats a bargain. Not many people would go to all the extra effort to make it possible, probably only to turn up and have people moan coz they aint hot enough or they've got the wrong drink. I think that Jim is a Legend for doin this and deserves an extra quid or two rather than giving us a discount!
