  1. Hi, I have found some oil leaking from the central dust cap on the rear hub of my 90. I had this happen before but I changed the hub oil seal and thought that was that but it seems to be back again any ideas as to what else it could be? By the way see the image that gives you more idea. Cheers James
  2. Well I think that you have to face it that if people are intent on stealing your 90 they will! All that we can do is make it such a problem that they think twice and move on to a softer target. Here in Oxfordshire we have had a huge increase in the theft of older land rovers probably because of the inadequate security fitted to older vehicles as standard if any. We have had one incidence locally(Wheatley)of a vehicle being lifted with a hiab also. I have recently purchased a huge wheel clamp from fleabay and it is fitted to my 90 as a deterrent that coupled with the nosiest neighbors in the world hopefully will give me some protection. Before anyone suggests that it would just take a cordless disc cutter or other means to overcome this or some other cutting tool!!, the thing to remember is that the average villain doesn't go packing that sort of stuff as standard and like I said nothing is beyond the wit of man to overcome given the right tools or scenario but at least we can make it more difficult for the scumbags!!!!! All the best# See pictures of the "Kensington Clogg"
  3. Hi, Just realized my heater on my 200tdi doesn't work I think its the actual fan assembly but am not sure. Wouldn't the cab still get warmed up from the ambient heat through the ducting even without the forced air flow (thats when the engine eventually warms that is)? Is this common? Questions, questions. Cheers
  4. Happy Christmas..... Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a hasp and staple locking fuel cap to fit a 90 and if so do any of you know who stocks em? Cheers James
  5. Well took my old 90 in for our first MOT since almost rebuilding her over the last year and she only failed on shonky red painted brake light bulbs that were flaking and two brake pipe ferrules so thats not so bad. So I should have a ticket for early next week
  6. Hi, I wouldn't put too much store in the MOT as I bought one with about 4 months MOT and the chassis needed loads of welding but was covered in layers of cow carp and mud so no proper inspection could have been effective, so do your self a favor and take someone that knows what to look for!!! Because its easy to be seduced by chunky tires and checker plate and shiny paint. See the image of my chassis below as a warning! I have taken a year now to sort mine out but I have to say I have learnt a lot and have enjoyed it for the most part. Oh and get yourself a welder and a big hammer as they should be optional extras on these vehicles Best of luck
  7. Well finally its MOT time she goes in for the test on Friday bright and early Its been almost 12 months to sort out a vehicle bought with a current MOT Keeping fingers crossed its not too bad. Cheers
  8. Taking mine for MOT later this month fingers crossed. Its taken me a year of Saturdays and Sundays off and on to get a vehicle that had a current MOT road worthy !!
  9. Hi, My 200tdi 90 is almost ready for the MOT people to have a go at and I have just noticed it smoke like bejaysus when started and revved hard.It has stood for a year and only been run up for 5 mins at a time so I suppose that could be it. The funny thing is when I picked it up in the frozen north a year ago I followed behind and a friend drove the 90 we came all the way down the m6-m1- m42-m40 and then some and it didn't smoke at all hmmmm. Say if it does fail on emissions is that the end of it, new engine time or can anything be done to reduce them for the ticket?
  10. Found the inspiration to go and do some on the money pit yesterday ,fitted the new front shocks and turrets and rings it wasn't too bad once we had decided that we needed to use more draconian measures than suggested in the Haynes manual. I don't want to tempt fate but I think she may be ready for the nice MOT testers !!! By the way just found a really good website if you like fords and Irish bridges and the like http://www.wetroads.co.uk/ James
  11. Hi, Thanks for the information. I called the good people at the Land rover Orphanage today and they couldn’t have been more helpful they knew the type of lock fitted and what type of barrel needed and confirmed that this type of locks are quite scarce having been only fitted for three years in the early 90/110 models. I will post some pics of the barrels when they arrive just in case it helps anyone else looking for this type of lock barrel for their early 90/110 There is a slight consolation in having been sold two sets of incompatible lock barrels by others is that the man from the Land rover Orphanage told me one of them would probably fit the back door lock . Oh well you live and learn
  12. Thanks for the reply.I will get one posted soon. The link to the pic of the lock doesn't look much like my door locks Cheers James
  13. Hello, I have been having problems trying to replace my early 90 door locks and thought somebody on the forum may be able to help. I have managed to get the lock off and take the cylinder out but having been sold two sets of cylinders now from "landrover specialists) that don’t fit I am beginning to wonder if this type of cylinder is available for a 1986 90 three door. See images below for more info. Thanks for any help
  14. Hello, I have been having problems trying to replace my early 90 door locks and thought somebody on the series forum may be able to help as I think the early 90/110 doors were fitted to the late series 3s?. I have managed to get the lock off and take the cylinder out but having been sold two sets of cylinders now from "land rover specialists) that don’t fit I am beginning to wonder if this type of cylinder is available.Does anyone know where I could get a set for a three door that will fit? By the way below are some images as examples of the wrong kind sold to me and the right kind that I took off the land rover. Many thanks James
  15. Just an update the people have agreed to replace the items and were very good about it "well done Wasipurt Landrover spares".
  16. Take heart look at these horrors I found on my Defender chassis
  17. I sorted the wiring out on my old 90 today and fitted brand new rear indicators units fresh from Wasipurt landrover spares. All was well until I put the first fixing screw in the hole and the plastic of the lamp was so brittle it just cracked. Anyway I thought never mind and glued the unit back together a little later I tried to fix the lens in place and guess what the lug came clean off before the screw had even knipped up tight Sent them an email and will see what comes of it but I am not to hopeful. Anyone else had this happen?
  18. Thanks that would be helpful. By the way I had some pikey types sniffing around and so have decided to fit an isolator key where would the best place to fit it?Behind the seat or in the battery box itself as I could fit a lock to the battery box to slow them down some more if I fitted it there. Thanks James
  19. Hello, Just wondered if anyone had an exploded diagram of a late series/ early defender antiburst lock Cheers James
  20. Hi Ralph, Thanks.. thats good as they match, I thought that I had gotten the wrong type again...Doh By the way why are they called antiburst did doors pre this burst open..sounds a bit dangerous. All the best James
  21. Hi, Can anyone tell me are these the right type of lock cylinders for what I think are anti-burst type doors, i.e. the type with the recessed lift up handles that are fitted to my 1986 90”? The reason I ask is that the old key is shorter and a different shape altogether... and before somebody says it I know keys come in different shapes and sizes. Cheers James
  22. Hello all, Well started putting the 90 back together again and the floors have gone back in I have trimmed the cowl from the fan were it clipped and the bulkhead has had the first covering of paint over the patches but matching the old white (ish) is a problem I have been given some green paint the kind they brush paint Hummers with zenethane I think its called and have decided rather than mess about with matching colours let dvla know and brush paint the lot or roller it green with the free green paint. Got the thinners but just wondering if I would need to re-prime or just key the surface and slap it on? I tried a test on a bulkhead that I have got waiting to be fitted and it didint react and bound fine. MOT getting nearer and nearer I hope
