If it aint broke don't fix it land rover knew what they were doing so I would mount the t box as close to original position as you can get it. Why not work the other way find the shortest prop land rover used then mount the t box in the same relative position as used on what ever vehicle it came off of.
Do not run uj's flat with no deflection they will self distruct in very short order.

The marcos and Jems is everything a mini is but better. My father had a jem in the 70s and it was the first car I ever went in literally. I had my first marcos at 18 and jem at 19. As for the moulds I'm well known in the club for repairing the cars and producing panels so when the previous owner decided to move the jem mk2 and mk3 moulds were donated to me/the club and yes they are the original British ones.

George if you need help with the fibreglass aspects of the esprit give me a shout. I have rebuilt numous fibreglass cars most mini based and some that were way beyond all logic and reason. You may or may not know but I have a small obsession with mini and mini based cars (as well as land rovers). I've had about 20 so far and a couple of years ago I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to become custodian of the build moulds for the mini jem. Hopefully once the ibex is finished in can drag one of three shells out and start a rebuild.

Close, mini jem but up until 3 months ago I had a mini marcos as well. Anyway I'm down to 3 mini Jems, 2 sets of mini jem build moulds, a foers ibex, a 110 and 45 (a 90).
Sorry for thread hijack I'm loving your work.

Hell, even if we "only" had threads for vehicles Mike has actually bought he'd have half the forum to himself I don't know anyone else who could go off to pick up a bit of a car and come back with enough vehicles to fill a car transporter!
I've no idea what you mean.......

Never noticed that it might be a cold climate thing as I imagine ep90 would be like treacle at -15°.

Ah excellent, is it 'safe' for speeds upto 50~ish?
The whine mainly occurs in 3rd and 4th gears...
Cough I've never done considerably more than 50 like that just remember to put the prop nuts back on to stop the hand brake drum falling off. Trust me the little screw doesn't keep it on. I've never had to go back and pick the drum up off a roundabout.

It didn't cause a problem on mine i think i just ran some emery round to take the surface rust off. To be honest that's the only reason I worked out there was a difference. You should of seen the panic on my face till I worked out it would still fit.

I suspect the HD one uses a 130 friction plate which is about 15mm larger diameter from memory. Though the rest of the kit will be the same. Back when I built 45 you had to buy the 130 friction plate separately and a normal you kit for the rest.

I had an early D1 200 that had the two seal set up, but apparently they are fine with just the one.
Early disco 1 axles were range rover axles. There imperial axles not metric ones.

What year axle/defender and front or rear. As none of mine have outer seals. I thought outer seals were a drum brake and early range rover thing.

If you don't off road often you'll be fine just replace it next time it's off. Mike

We're back there in September Les.

I've got one that I think is failing as if I brake 3 times in quick succession the third time has no servo assistance but the servo seems to be fine so I guess the vacancy pump is going. I will replace it at some point.

With the best will in the world by putting great big locks on the outside you may as well have a flashing lights say stuff worth nicking inside. If original or like for like swapped your door are aluminium and steel. A locked steel box bolted down inside or creating a box with window guards etc is better in my opinion. But leaving anything in a land rover is brave but if you must then hide it or disguise it.

They should be mounted with the inside (hollow side) towards the bearing. It normally says on the seal. Should you change it yes will it be OK till the next time it's off probably the worst that will happen is contamination and premature failure.

Ask TSD what happens when you think the starter feed is to small and up it. I believe he literally blew two starters apart before he worked out land rover use that size cable to limit the current draw of the motor.

Vac pump on a 200tdi is cam driven by skew gear on the block at the mid point (where the distributor would be on a 2.25 petrol. As far as I know there's only one type.the 300tdi was again cam driven but by plunger, positioned lower and further back. I think td5 and tdci are on the alternator but not sure.

He did say it's standard disco Ross. As to using the stud rather than the post, on Marine stuff we tend to use the studs as they are more positive than clamping a post. These days most clamps have a stud for the cable anyway so it's no different.

On a side note it sounds like your clutch release arm has punched through so add a HD release arm and release bearing to your shopping list.

Off road caravan.... due to some interesting circumstances I'm selling a lot of our camping gear to go the caravan route. However caravans are hateful, flimsy and generally don't tow that well. So once we have established a caravan will work for us in feel a build coming on. Mind I do need to shift so other projects first.

If it's any help I have vapour builds monthly but I have been known to actually build some of mine to.

Some but I'm more likely to know the car than the person. I've been on the mini marcos owners club committee for about 20 years but haven't been that active at events for about 10 years.
