I think the real problem is you can go buy a Galv chassis then buy every thing else second hand. Build yourself a nice shiny new truck all you then need is an ID you could iva it and register it correctly all legit and lovely. That is however far to hard when you can just buy a v5 stamp the numbers in MOT it job done no one checks it, on the road. These people aren't dishonest or thieves there people who don't know any better. Let's face it no one tells you how to do it properly oh and it cost more to do it properly.

I bought zinc plated nuts and bolts for all the major items on the ibex but make sure they are 8.8 and use copperslip or similar. I'm also using stainless for non structural but use with either tefgel or duralac.

Jeff if it makes you feel better I've always wanted a davrian but apparently I have to make do with what I have. I've had 4 jem's though 2 had no registration thatt includes the the one I've just got. I've also had 6 mini's Marcos but the one I have now is proper knackered.
Back on topic the ibex is tented in ready for etch priming on Sunday. I've put the bare minimum of filler over the welds then it's a sand and prime one panel at a time.

The coppers asked wife loads of questions about what I was doing and why I needed this paint. I think he was completely lost when she said he builds cars for a hobby and boats for a living. Mind I'm real glad I'm not painting it at home I'll bet they come back to check I'm not "running a business" from home.

I don't blame the emergency services they were just dealing with an unknown substance that had knock someone out. However even the fireman said when he got there it was clearly not that bad and everyone needed to chill out. As for the dipstick driver if he had been more careful with the package, cleaned up the spill with the rag offered by my wife and ventilated or not stopped in a school entrance things would be different.

I've just heard they evacuated the school and blocked all roads in the vacinity.
On top of that the wife has just upped her price oh this going to cost me big time.
Mike
-
You'd of thought it was a plutonium leak. Mind the dipstick driver did pull into a school entrance before passing out. He also told the fireman it was like smoking a joint!! Bright lad? He was taken to hospital but believe he's ok.

Ok so i get a call from the wife "your paints here but it's leaking so i've left it in the garden stinks of pear drops" no biggy i think they've obviously dropped it and split the thinners i'll sort it when i get home.
1 hour 30 mins later......
Wife calls again "come home NOW the police are here something to do with that leaking package"
15 mins later......
I get home to: two coppers "can you come through to the front of the house, next door has been evacuated along with your wife/kids. What is in the package sir?"
Me "2k paint and by the smell of it leaking thinners"
Coppers " so you know how to deal with it then"
Me "yeah i've got a tin i'll decant it into that why what's going on? "
Coppers " the delivery drive has collapsed at the wheel overcome by fumes we have 5 fire engines, 2 ambulances and 6 police cars dealing with it. Your sure your ok here"
Me slightly bewildered "yeah no problem"
Wife "can we go back in now"
Me "yeah i'll go clear it up"
10 mins later......
Fire brigade turn up "just came by to check your ok but figured you would know what to do with it"
Me "i don't believe this is happening"
Fireman "yeah theres been a bit of over reaction"
Me "your not joking it's only some thinners"
Fireman " yeah it all got a bit carried away and though you might want some sanity. We'll leave you in peace"
Wife "you owe me a cup of tea!"
Me " alright but i'll finish clearing up out back first"
So i've got the paint for the ibex the paint company are sending me a new tin of thinners after laughing there heads off on the phone (the police had already called them) and the wife/next door have something to talk about.

I've got a chassis you could cut it off of in Southampton though the body's still on it. I'll have a look at it tonight see what condition it's in.

I would guess at pushing 2.5 ton plenty of trailers out there car trailers are great for cog but wide. Beaver tail are narrower but higher so take your choice. There is two things I would recommend above all else though strap all four wheels with 2 ton straps and strap the chassis down front and rear as well to stop the truck bouncing around on the trailer.

The paint colour will be gun metal grey.
The garage has just gone from bad to worse. It desperately needed a tidy up but now I have a whole other problem a car I've spent the last 10 years looking for a mini jem came up on eBay this week. So now I've got a double garage with a mini Marcos under a bench, a mini jem which will go on top of said bench once I've cleared it, all the tools and spares/parts for four different cars and I've still got to get the ibex back in there once I've finished the painting. Not to mention the disco in bits and a sankey outside I think I need to find a warehouse to live in.

I've just replied on my thread to tell you how to make it. The v block in the picture is only the two bits of plate that came with the press used for support when pushing bushes out.
Mike

The press tool came up on eBay but it came with a very narrow v block that is only any good with thin sheet. However you could make this very easily the blade is only a bit of 8mm plate with a block on top to keep it straight and a 90° point on the other. I keep meaning to make a new v block which only needs to be a base plate with a bit of angle welded on top to form the v then supported by a plate on either side. Then all you need is a press mine is a 10 ton cheapy.

And finally it's out of the garage so I can actually see what it looks like.

As I'm planning to paint it very soon I thought I better finish off the panel work.
Just got the seal return to do tomorrow night along with trimming the hinge covers to fit. Then I need to throw some more sealant around, some filler and then paint.

I have all of the above in Southampton they maybe a little grubby I can't remember they've been folded down for a while.
Mike

I'll be there with lots of very useful items for sale.

To be fair I only got it out of the car last night to be able to weigh it. Yes it will be around a £10 be thought it was worth a try on here if not I'll post it to him.

That sounds about right for the bearing set up.The only outstanding question is the bearing/seal setup.
I think it is standard except no outer hub oil seal, so it goes ( outer bearing-washer-nut-washer-nut).
I am not sure why I can't see the outer oil hub seal in any drawings of the front bearing set up.......... Am I missing the point.
There is no outer seal on front hubs bar I believe some range rovers.

He means a disco heater from me.

I was told that your supposed to fit mirror extensions even on a defender. Not that I bother. A friend had them on his range rover classic (same door frame) I think he had to make a plate to cover some holes then bolted through the lot.

If I remember correctly mouse used an lt230 I think that's Nuff said. I've never heard of one failing other than wear.

Mine is on an ibex but the same as a 110 (salisbury axle) I used drum stub axles no spacer (wheel bearing), drum half shafts, 200tdi 110 front hubs and bearings, the discs mentioned earlier, 110 rear calipers and the caliper brackets.

another Ebayer that needs reporting - ID - no chassis.

You may be right but I'm fairly sure I'm right too the point is either way there is no checks in place. Anyone can buy a chassis with no proof of why they want it. I've never seen an MOT man check the vin number on the chassis and I'm not convinced many would bother to report a suspect vehicle. Whatever way you look at it it's just to easy to change to ID of a vehicle.
