If you only drive on road I would stick with the disco it may not last as long or hold it's value like a defender but it will be warmer, quieter, dryer, more comfortable and most importantly you will be under it/in the garage less. To own a defender is a life commitment you need to really want one because no one in there right mind buys one unless they have a "use" for it. Having said that borrow a defender (the older the better) drive it you will quickly see what I mean. ?

Good point forgot about V8 though that's a different radiator to the diesels as it's bigger anyway (no intercooler).

I've got a 6" extension on my garage door so I could get the tomcat in. But now I still have to take the door off to get the ibex in. If it is an up and over door just unbolting it and taking it off will gain you about 4".

Yes that's right mind i've never seen a double pass on a 200tdi so I don't know what radiator has been discontinued.

I fairly sure 200tdi (89 to 94) is single pass though there is only one radiator for the 200tdi. The 300tdi (94 to I think 98) is double pass though again there is only one radiator for the 300tdi but 200 and 300 are definitely different.

I had a cheap 130amp welder with 3.2mm rods and the amps wound up I could only get similar duty cycle. A friend did suggest a better/bigger fan as over heat is the biggest problem with this type of welder. However a murrex 130amp oil cooled welder came up so I swapped instead mind it's about the same size but 4 times the weight.

Careful using ratchet straps. Strapping it down is fine but releasing them is not exactly controlled the pink bits can get shorter.? something like a trailer hand winch might be more controlled.

The other thing it could be is a partly striped Speedo drive it the transfer box.
An easy way the check the Speedo it's self is put an oval nail that fits the square drive in the back of the Speedo into a battery drill. Insert it into the square drive and spin it up at a set speed if it still bounces the Speedo is shot it not the problem Is else where.

If you fit roof lights/window make sure they are on the shaded side of the roof/wall and in shade all day at that. Otherwise in summer you will find out exactly how hot an oven is.Some sort of roof light or transparent panel - i put some in my garage and wouldn't be without natural light now.

Not if you don't have a phone signal as we didn't.They were saying that you could purchase over the phone 24/7 ......
You need to call 0300 123 4321 it's an automated service and you need the ref number from either the reminder or the V5

I had this exact problem 2 days after the law change we got there bought the car and insured it then tried to do the tax online on the phone failed then we tried the post office up the road to be met with "we don't do car tax". In the end we drove it home figuring the previous owner was unable to surrender the tax till he sends the v5 off (atleast a day) so it won't flag on ANPR and if a copper pulled us we have the counter part of the v5 to prove we had just bought it. We did tax it as soon as we got home and never had any come back.

It's more likely the Speedo cable is knackered. As it does it quite often balloons or frays thus becoming stop start as it spins this gives a bouncing Speedo needle.

If it's the glow plug relay that could explain why it was hot especially if you have a glow plug that's gone dead short. I'd be checking/replacing (depending on price) the glow plugs and the relay.

Aren't the ones Shackleton linked series axle breathers.

There are lots of seats that will fit and be more comfortable but almost none will give you more room your main limiting factor being the truck cab. After market race style seats are comfortable and thin enough but a pain to get in and out. Normal car seats are great (i have disco seat in 45 (90 csw)) but you will lose room in a truck cab and the runners may cause a headache. Lastly sports car seat are often comfortable and think but runners/price will be against you.

Use epoxy floor paint that should keep the damp at bay.

Get a different girlfriend.??

A drain would be surprisingly useful as well as at least cold water if not hot.

Look on the bright side you can sit and look at the scenery while you wait for me then fridge to get round. ??None of my business what you fit, but as the former owner of a stretch limo, I will not miss the opportunity to rip the urine the first time you have to do a three point turn on a mini roundabout.
Seriously though it's a very good point perhaps a closer look at that list above is required.

Your both more than welcome to pop in for coffee but I'll be putting 285's on for two reasons first I'm running that size on 45 and second I like the look of the wider tyres on an ibex.
Dave I knew you'd say mach 5 that's one reason I'm interested in the challenger's.

It will be going for iva on a borrowed set of boost alloys with 265/75x16 General grabber at2's mainly due to Speedo compliance.
Thanks for that list that's very helpful.
Has anyone got the challenger rims what do they think of them?
mike

The ibex was designed with 285's in mind it has massive wheel arches that really need 285's or bigger to fill them.
I like mach 5's though I believe there no longer made are the challenger copys any good? I haven't ruled out alloys but choice here seems to be limited due to load rating.

Doh didn't think of that as it's normal called (wire/winch) rope. I use plasma @ 11mm but I'm fair sure my ep9 came with 8mm wire rope.

What do you mean by 8mm I assume you mean the copper core is 8mm dia if that's the case it's around 50mm2 which is what I use. I was recommended this by a sparky at work though the max load on 50mm2 is around 150 amps it seems to put up with 350 amps (stall) for short bursts. However if the 8mm is external then it's around 35mm2 which is what a lot of winches come with. Personally I don't think this is man enough but many people use it with no problems.

New car tax rules - buying a car
in International Forum
Posted
On a side note I bought a car that isn't likely to see the road any time soon. Only to discover you can't sorn it until you have the v5 back on top of that you can't sorn it online or in a post office it can only be done via a form you have to download and post to them or you can phone up and they will post you the form for you to send back to them. Now there's progress for you.
