There must be something about buying a kit car around the birth of your kids. The first car I travelled in as a baby was a mini jem (explain's a lot really ). I bought my ibex just before my youngest put in a slightly premature appearance.....

They are 41s.....
They somehow thought it was a good idea to run a single rear wheel instead of the dually setup it comes with from factory....
If you spend any time looking at overland trucks You'll realise they are obsessed with not having dual wheels. For some reason they go to great lengths to remove them an fit super singles. I get the risk of debris between the tyres but the ground pressure advantage should out weigh having to check everytime you stop. I think none of them have actually worked out that due to their weight and size they're unlikely to venture far off a gravel road.

More likely air con but I know that's a boring answer.

A definite likeness but it did take a minute to work out where you were going with this.

Having looked again I think it's the same one.

This one looks better but still massively over weight.

TBH, I am somewhat expecting this.... There's ~400Kg of extra axle weight, a 200TDI vs a 2.25 petrol and all the nuke-spec stuff going on. A Lightweight is ~1500Kg IIRC, so I'll say around 2095Kg.
Sweepstake anyone?
My ibex is 2ton so I reckon Sid should be 1925kg.

I agree with fridge I don't think weight saving is high priority. Unless it turns out over 2ton when you weigh it.
Definitely needs more travel especially at the front but the longer springs weren't the solution standard height might help. A stronger steering bar sounds like it high on the list though.

My beadlocks are only on the outside, but I don't usually air down so they don't really do a lot.
On Ladoga every time we pushed a tyre off the rim it was always the outside we did about 6 on the event and every time the inside was still on the bead. I have no reason why it's just my experience.

I went with hard top springs and cut the protrusion off the A frame. Works well and the ride is perfectly acceptable.

You could save all that bother and stick the auto in it.
Stop avoiding the question 😛
Except autos are horrible and should be banned.

I'm pretty sure the defender/disco bell housing is the same on the R380 it's the position of the gear stick and hi/low stick they're much further back on the disco.

Don't tell me, you'll trade for the 200TDi he pulls out of the 110 to add to your collection of ropey old 200TDi's
Nah it's a 300 in there, I don't want that....

Phil doesn't know it but he has the tunnel and diaphragm covered.

Just to add to retros comment pre 91 the 90 had smaller front calipers than the 110 but post 91 ish they fitted 110 calipers to the 90.

@muddy he currently has an lt77 not an r380 so the transfer box will likely need to move position. He has a disco 10p attached to a manual and a disco 15p with auto. I believe the plan is to fit the manual to the 15p and fit that in place of the current 300tdi and lt77 in the defender.

As snagger says delete and fit a sensing cap. I didn't fit it when I built the ibex as it only tells you the brakes have failed and the cap does the same job. I think some early 110s it turned the brake lights on to but I might be thinking of something else.

Beat me to it!
Welcome along Phil
I think you should be able to leave your transfer box where it is (or put the TD5 one in the exact same place) and retain props as standard, only risk is that may then put the engine in a non-standard position... up to you really, putting the TD5 in the "factory" TD5 location would theoretically make all the plumbing / exhaust etc. line up using standard TD5 Defender parts which has a lot to be said for it, but could be more work in other areas.
Your D2 R380 will be different to a Defender one (gearstick in wrong place) but I think Ashcroft sell a stick-relocation kit.
I'm fairly sure you can't leave the transfer box where it is because the R380 is about 5 inches longer than than the defender LT77 and from memory the R380 is further into the engine bay to get the engine clear of the bulkhead. Either way I would put everything in the correct td5 position as it will make everything easier in the long run.

It doesn't look like Sid's wheels have a bead on the inside of the rim in the photos but that could be the light.
My beadlocks work as daan shows, except as mine are single not double the disc part extends to capture the tyre instead of a tube between the two.

In which case you'll need:
Props, front, the disco front prop should fit but needs to be checked. Rear needs to be 300tdi 110 onwards (not puma).
Gearbox mounts and I think there's a cross member to.
Engine chassis mounts (you might be able to cut the disco mounts off and use them).
Td5 exhaust (it's bigger).
Air box? Not sure if they're different.
This is off the top of my head and assumes your going to put it in the correct position so you can use off the shelf parts.

It wouldn't be a simple job but you could replace that connector with the MGF/300 disco under bonnet fuse box. I fitted one on my ibex to get rid of the fusable links in a 200 disco loom. It also gives extra fuse options but from memory will likely need wires soldering/connecting together which kind of defeats the point.

As Louis didn't get to say it.....
You can't park there mate.
Am I right in thinking your 110 is currently a 300tdi but not originally. If so what gearbox is in there and if it's an R380 is it in the 300 position.

1.2 million overlander thing broken, repaired, recovered

I'm about to read a book by a
loonyguy who's driven around the world in a mini van. I'd bet I could get further off the beaten track in that than any of the truck based overlanders. Much as I'd love a truck it's not the right vehicle for the job.Mike
