  2. Everything has momentum when moving the heavier it is the harder it is to stop. Normally under braking and cornering the momentum is the body chassis etc, however hitting a bump or hole it's the axle. The suspension has to deal with this and with the change from chassis momentum to axle momentum. The lift in height also increases the chassis momentum. On top of this with portals you add a lot of extra leverage. Pah portals they'll never work.....:hysterical:

  3. If I remember correctly you need the flywheel housing off a 300tdi. I suspect you'll also need a 300tdi disco gearbox cross member and mounts. I think they are different lengths around 25mm I believe but that may not be a hill of beans.

  4. It is odd that currently the best cars to convert are small light and weight. The same cars that are already quite efficient and if you were to bin all the extra un-nessasary equipment would be more so. What really needs to be addressed are the big "gas guzzling" cars, the only real reason to own anything sub 30mpg is heavy towing. If a sub 30mpg car it doesn't have a towbar (and one that's used) it is pointless as there are plenty of 60mpg cars that will do the same job.

The idea of hybriding a land rover through the PTO is I think genius moving forwards. As it allows it to do all the thinks it was designed for whilst theoretically making it more efficient and cleaner. However my big worry is you spend all this cash converting you car only to find it won't be reclassified because it doesn't fit the government box.

  5. The irony in all of this I used to work in a boat yard called bucklers hard, there has been a boat builders there for several hundred years. The main part of the site is a museum showing how the ships were build on the river and everyone needed lived in the village including farmers to feed workers. The timber way grown locally and replaced as used. You didn't need to go anywhere else, you could walk to everything you needed. By the time I worked there the ship yard was long since gone the village became a museum. I couldn't afford to live anywhere near the newer boat yard (slightly further up river) so had to commute from 7miles away.

    Apparently this is progress......

I think I know, for two reasons. One, I think you might have mentioned it recently, and two, I have a very similar looking tool in my workshop. Except I didn't need to replace mine, I just forgot to fit them at build

Correct, valve stem seals. She's getting a bit smokey on overrun.

  7. Dave Lang has driven a transit around the whole site on the main tracks, they are wide flat gravel. Turn off these onto just over truck width lightly rutted "greenlanes" turn off those on heavily rutted scratchy tracks. Go off piste where the king of the valleys or Welsh 150 have been and you'll need a winch and big tyres. There's long/short, steep climbs and descents. Rock crawls that can be done in the ambulance and ones ultra 4 use. Honestly about the only terrain/type of track missing is sand and there's 1600 acres of site to play with.

Going by that timing, that'll be when I went with you and Mr Neale. I think you were running the event.

I would like to return to 7S, if only to test the car out in its current configuration and see what it can/cannot do. Options to not get too demanding (read: damaging) would really be what I'd look for.

The club is back there in September, the site can be as demanding as you want it to be.

One option I've just thought of... Our very own @NRS91 and family run a campsite with a rally field not far west of Macclesfield. Not wanting to speak for Nick, but the whole family are vehicle mad. Nick with the Land Rovers, Scammels & ERFs, His mum has all sorts of classics and his dad is into anything Bond (of the minicar variety).

    Now you have my attention...

But if you remember vehicles I'm sure names will come to you

ie Sid the Roach, and if you can't remember my username off that after I've plagued these pages with posts then there is really no hope for you or your memory.... lol

    regards Stephen

Ah see cars are different I can remember a car or even a photo of a car from years ago, I can tell you were it was or what was in the photo. But I have trouble remembering my neighbours name let alone someone I've seen once or twice.

There truly is no hope, I never had any marbles to begin with. :hysterical:
