I went through about 3 sets before I switched to genuine, they've done about 15k so far with a reasonable amount of off roading.

I must admit I've always just put a 3 hole head gasket on but then I'm normally in a rush. It's easier to just order a 3 hole than the time to pull the head measure then order.

It seemed to weep out of any joint it could (same joints are dry with blue in). I'm not convinced that it wasn't oat that caused my Ali radiator to fail, just a gut feeling I'll admit. We've always had blue in the 110 and given oat is more expensive I've not seen any benefit.

After what I've seen after 2 months using OAT antifreeze, pretty unimpressed with what I've seen, going to fully flush once back together and use the blue stuff next time.
Ironically I was given a load of oat antifreeze while building the ibex so used it. I'm also unimpressed and have now gone back to blue.

Due to the radiator issue I ended up ordering a new aluminium radiator because it would have threaded spiggots I could just attach the oil pipes to.......... except it turned up with bosses the same as the brass radiator unlike the pictures. After a trip to our local hydraulic hose shop (I escaped for under £5), I now have two elbows and the adaptors robbed off TSD's old radiator this gives a dog leg at the bottom. A liberal adjustment of the metal pipes and it's all in.
While I was at it I fitted new standard bump stops. I did have poly bush style and I think this flexed the bracket's causing one to break.

There are really only a few thing that will stop you driving home. Top of my list is steering bars and fuel tank, if you have a tow bar that's good enough for a rear tank. Side tank are generally ok unless you get really carried away. HD steering bars are worth the investment, but as fridge says a standard land rover (or other 4x4) will get far further than most people's talent. The single best thing you can do to improve a 4x4 is get some good quality driver training, whether you pay for this (get a recommendation) or find a local club and watch people, ask questions but above all go for that bloke that just seems to drive around with no fuss and just seems to get everywhere.

I guess an LT230 is a bit more sturdy, but I split my BW hitting a rock on a climb, and not even at silly speed. Very much looking into a skidplate now.
And wasn't it @Chris Daviesthat got a rock through his LT230 cover plate at Seven Sisters?
You and Chris are the only people I know that have damaged a transfer box. Even running a pto drop box that hangs lower than the transfer box I've not really worried about it.

Sorry, definitely sounds like a head gasket.

I nip the first one up with a bar, spin the hub then slacken it and re-tighten it by hand on the box spanner. Fit lock washer and outer nut then fold tab over inner nut. The outer gets wound up FT with a power bar. Hammer tabs over.

I have a box spanner that has a plate on the end with a square hole for a ½"drive power bar.

200tdi's are known for running cool generally they get colder at tick over. If mine was running hot first I'd check the radiator isn't clogged/empty (assume you already have) then I'd be taking the head off I'm afraid.

Just a thought have you checked or changed the water pump I've had the impeller shear off before.

My electric fan very rarely cuts in at this time of year the switch is in the top of the thermostat housing. In fact the replacement engine that's just gone in is running cooler than the one with oil pressure issues I've just taken out. Are you getting heat out of the heater?

My ibex has HD steering bars, front diff guard and a tank guard with removable tow bar. Sills are box section anyway but plan to add tree slider/step tube at some point.
Our 110 has Fairey 525 with associated HD bumper, 10mm Ali steering guard (protects the bottom of the winch and steering bars), front diff guard and tree slider sills. It has standard tow bar/plow.
Both are on 33" tyres.
I did Ladoga with similar protection to above and a rear diff guard on 45 (90).
All my trucks get used for club marshaling, green laning and towing.

That sounds like a head gasket to me. How much pressure does it keep after shut down and for how long? Neither of mine hold pressure in the cooling system much longer than an hour and even then it's about lemonade bottle levels. I've had one just pressurise the coolant with no other symptoms, no residue, it had gone between number 3 and a water way.

On the ibex I have a 24 spline disco axle up front with vented discs and 110 front calipers. On the back I have a Salisbury rear axle converted to disc. Our 110 is on stock axles 10 spline and solid discs up front and Salisbury with drums on the rear. In my opinion the Salisbury axle is far stronger in stock form than the equivalent 110 rover rear axle. I will say it's worth converting to discs on the rear, whilst well adjusted drums in good fettle are almost as good as discs they don't stay that way for long. Where as discs are fit and forget with consistent braking.

Thanks for the info guys.
6 mounting points? I can only see 4 on the front chassis legs. I will put extra on the crossmember just to be sure.
I suspect nonimouse is referring to the tubes the lashing eyes are mounted to.

It wasn't the radiator adapter thread that was the problem, the Ali rad didn't have any adapter at all so the pipe and bend were 30mm shorter and cleared the steering box. The thread that was the issue was the temperature sender.

I clean my heads up using fine wet and dry with a block of perspex and a squirt of wd40, in an effort to keep it flat.
