I've done two and things were a lot easier second time mainly down to having a mate help me. I let everything go on the Thurs and Fri evening. Chassis out everything swapped and back under over the weekend (mate helping). The following week evenings I bolted it all back down and replaced both C pillars and the front of the rear floor.

You get enough looks A, taking logs into the tent and B, poking the chimney out the top.
if you have the awning underneath you could run the chimney through.........

The cover looks like its the idler/tensioner that's the problem.
I had a timing chest fail on a discovery, it produced a tapping sound and wore a belt. The chest had cracked around the machined flat for the idler (idler and tensioner are separate on 200tdi discos), it just looked like a casting line at first glance. This caused the idler to tilt with injection pump pulses and hit the front cover.

You've already been in the belt casing which to me points to it being somewhere else. The fact the clutch changes it can only mean two things, the crank is moving back and forward or the engine speed is changing with clutch use. As you don't have a dial gauge clamp a steel rule close to the bolt with a light below. You won't be able to measure it but you should see enough to eliminate end float.
I suspect a 300 crank timing pulley is very similar to the 200 one and wouldn't be surprised if it would be a straight swap. Worth checking at the very least.

Prob be a pig to get registered, but would be nice !
It would require an IVA but not impossible.

From what you have said I'd check the crank end float. Put a dial gauge on the crank pulley and get someone to push the clutch down. Depending on dial gauge I'd try it running to smack in the middle of the bolt should be fine for a short run.

Unfortunately August is looking pretty full for us.

I'm sorry to hear it was a bit low for you, I alway gearbox and transfer box out together. Perhaps some casters would give enough.
Re the back of the engine tiping I guess it's just one of those things people forget they do. I hang a ratchet strap off the pedal box down under the flywheel housing and up to the heater area, without looking I can't remember what I use heater side but I know I have taken it up over the wing and back down to the sill on occasion.

I think, off road it will be no problem at negative camber.. Hookin it round a round about will not be it's thing, just go straight over it😁
Top of tyre out is positive camber. The boy racers with top in is negative camber.

If your getting power at the relay but not the plugs I would suggest the wire from the relay to plugs is broken or has a bad connection. Failing that check the link wires and the engine earth. When you test are you using the engine block for the neg or something else?

Do you have to ‘shop around’ for campsites @miketomcat?
We’ve found quite a few that don’t allow fire pits - I would presume yours would be viewed similarly?
We haven't had any problems but we tend towards small basic sites. North uist is my mother-in-law's field so no issue there.
To be honest I would argue that it's no different to a gas stove. It's up off the ground, completely enclosed and we cook on it. The dog cage has a metal tray in the bottom as well so the grass is completely protected.

Thank you. So I guess it kind of works in a similar way to a steering box.

We always have a carbon monoxide detector in the tent. The tent is designed to be used with a wood burner (hot tent) and even though it is nylon it is fire resistant.
The dog normally ends up on my feet. She does get objectionable to the heat in there from time to time, but then so do we.
On North uist a few years ago we were sat around in the tent wood burner on in tee shirts. Outside was about 5°c, blowing a force 9 and raining. 🔥

Excuse the dumb question, why and how much better is this over the standard vacuum servo.

Great ! Very unusual tent ? I’ve not seen one like that before in that size.
It's a helsport varanger camp 8-10, allegedly it sleeps 8-10 but comfortably 6 without the wood stove. We sleep 4 plus dog and have a modified dog cage around the stove.

Thanks but me being the fussy git I am......I've had Ali knobs before and burned my hand in summer, black plastic is bad enough.
