  1. Me and my mate do this one as buyers every year and it's well worth a visit. We cleared-out our garages and sold there three years ago and did quite well.

We've both re-accumulated a lot more stuff and were planning to sell at Old Sodbury in April, but what with the cancelations and subsequent re-scheduling to less than ideal and more expensive venues, we're now planning to do Capel as sellers and hopefully reach a bigger than usual number of buyers.

  2. The slide-out rails used on almost all rack-mount servers and networking equipment are made by - Accuride

Accuride also supply rails for general use, they're available up to 1.5m long, with load ratings of up to 225kg per pair.

They're stocked by RS and Farnell and, if you don't have an account with either of them, can be bought online from - Components Direct

When I disposed of some old Compaq servers at work, I kept some of the heavier-duty rails, a pair of which, my mate used to make a plywood drawer in the back of his 110 CSW -

  3. paul, any chance you can post (or email) a page or two out of that manual that has the drawings of the wheel arches? no biggie but the more i can provide to my fabricator the closer i'll get to it being right.

    thx again,

    john

The illustrations in Microcat are just line-art drawings with no real detail. Also, they've used the same illustration for the 2007 Defender as they used for the 1987 -2006 Defenders.

There's more detail in the pictures that other people have posted here.

  4. guys.... thank you soooo much for these shots. this is just what i need. i learned quite a bit from these posts. one is that the there is a support frame underneath the wheel arch that i didn't know about. i'll want to have my fabricator reinforce that section w/ some additional brackest i suppose. another one is the location of where the seat belt attaches to the floor. that is helpful as well.

many thanks again and i'll keep you posted as to how my installation comes out!

    regards,

    john

I've just laid my hands on a copy of the Feb 2008 Microcat.

The 2007 M.Y. > Defender is in it's own section, and trawling through the body, seating and seatbelt sub-sections, it would appear that the reinforcing frame is not available as a separate part. You have to buy the complete rear tub or the whole wheelbox/wheelarch side assy, and they are bluddy expensive :o

  5. An old thread about old news containing links to older threads with much the same content. I reckon this is all getting a bit broad and repetitive.

Nothing to see here now, move along please.

Dredged-up from the depths by the spammer trying to sell us his plastic bling.

  6. The .pdf files on RAVE will only open with the version of Adobe Acrobat Reader on the RAVE CD.

This version of Acrobat has been nobbled so that you can't save the files or individual pages.

You can get saveable versions of manuals and installation instructions from Land Rover's website,

the link, entitled - Take me to the Owners Information Website is on this page -

I've already dowloaded the installation instructions for both Bonnet Mounted Spare Wheel Kits, get them here -

  7. I've got one of those Starrett arbors, they're great for enlarging holes on the same centre, but for fitting NAS lamps you need to move the centre of the new larger hole.

I used the bit of scrap wood technique to find the new centre for the Starrett cutter.

My mate did his by fitting the NAS lamp plinth and using the hole in it's centre to guide the Starrett cutter.

  8. Whats the one in Capel like?

looks like i might be attending....

Me and my mate did that one as sellers a couple or three years ago and did quite well.

We've been as buyers since and it's been fairly quiet, but definately worth a visit.

    Paul.

  9. Never have I read a more unconvincing set of excuses. I wonder what the real reason is.

I also thought that they sounded like pathetic reasons, I'm hoping that someone on here knows a bit more?

Me and my mate were going to be selling at April's sortout, but now we're thinking about giving Tom McGuigan's 4x4-Market a go at Newmarket on the 20th April.

    Paul.

  10. My mate has just received a letter from the Old Sod, they've cancelled both Sortouts this year.

The letter say's the reasons are - objections about the traffic on the A34 and M4, high fuel prices and the London LEZ affecting traders.

    Paul.

  11. I was hoping i would have got away with my error - but .....

Ok - here goes - i wasnt sure whether to post here or for sale - so deleted it here then went out and forgot to post in either of them!!

I want an ex gpo/royal mail/irish post built in wall type letter box - the cast iron type like below. If anybody has one lying around at the bottom of their shed/garage then i could be interested at the right price...box condition not overly important (they apparently rust out from the inside - just like a landy - can you see the link now !!!!), the door and hinges must be solid though.

Have a look at this eBay search (royal mail post box) -

    http://search.ebay.co.uk/royal-mail-post-b...ssPageNameZWLRS

It turns up a couple of original boxes (very expensive :o ) and quite a few replicas that are cheaper, but still not cheap.

  12. Admit it - you got stuck in a particularly difficult bit of Tesco car park

    Les.

I did get stuck in Sainsbury's car park once :o

It was the one at Greenwich Peninsular (next to The Dome/O2 tent thingy). It was when the millenium exhibition was on and you had to get your parking ticket validated in one of the stores at the shopping park (to ensure that you were a shopper and not someone parking there for the doom), well I forgot to get my ticket validated and couldn't be @rsed to go back to Sainsbury's, so I used the 110 to create a new exit through the dense prickly bushes

  13. So we should have no pollution standards/fines at all as it's a load of balls to raise money and go back to the days of smog then?

Why should people be persecuted, fined and criminalised for driving vehicles that met the appropriate standards when they were built and continue to meet the appropriate standards at their annual MOT inspection ?

After all, if pollution standards are only for tax and not to reduce pollution we would still have smog so bad you can't see your hand 2m in front of you some days.

Oh, hang on... we don't have that anymore because standards came in that worked.

I'm not questioning the need for pollution standards. I have a problem with the retrospective application of current standards to vehicles that were built to previous standards. These vehicles, because of their age, are going to be few in number, probably owned by individuals rather than businesses and of little or no consequence to the overall cleaning-up of air pollution - Let's not forget, these are road-legal, MOT'ed vehicles we're talking about.

While I agree that a lot of what the government does is carp it does not mean it all is. There is a difference between local pollution (like in cites) and global pollution too.

I get the feeling I'm in the minority here that thinks sometimes the bigger picture is worth it...

"The bigger picture" - this is the one where electric cars can use London streets without incurring the wrath of Kommissar Livingstone "because they don't pollute" - all the while ignoring the dirty industry that makes their batteries, the coal and oil fired power stations that generate their electricity (churning out all sorts of muck on someone elses doorstep), the inefficiencies of turning fossil fuel into electricity, distributing that electricity to consumers and then using that electricity to charge a battery.

BTW, I'll still have my 300TDi pick up when the rules come in. But it will have an exhaust trap to catch the excess particulates if needed so that it passes. The fine is so high to make people convert vehicles. If it was £5 per day people would fork out (and moan) each day instead and in the long run the government would probably earn more.

The estimated cost of this modification is ridiculously high and beyond the reach of most ordinary people. Obviously, a sainted few with more money than sense, an attitude of self-righteousness and a slavish willingness to comply will toe the line unquestioningly.

Right, I'm off now. :) Tomorrow I'll just say it's a load of balls. Saves time looking in to it or having a balanced discussion because the government are only interested in one thing... Money. ;)

I've looked into this thoroughly since it was first made public and my conclusion that it's a load of b****cks stands.

Livingstone and TFL have sneaked this legislation through without any proper public consultation. They're not making the public aware of the full implications of this legislation. The adverts I've seen (on a few bus shelters) or heard (on local radio) only refer to "old buses and lorries" being affected from February, there's no mention of commercials over 3.5 tonnes being affected in July, or all commercials between 1.205 tonnes and 3.5 tonnes being affected in October 2010 and certainly no mention of the standard being raised to Euro IV in January 2012. Although, the TFL website does tell all if you happen to go there - http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/default.aspx

Consulting bus operators, hauliers and large businesses is NOT public consultation. The average man on the street has no idea that this is around the corner waiting for him.

    Paul.

  14. Another good reason not to go into the cespit otherwise known as "London" :) ?

The problem is, this is just the thin end of the wedge. Livingstone is being used to test the water with these schemes. If they can get away with it in London, then they'll start rolling-out similar schemes all over the UK.

Some cities are already looking at a congestion charging zone or banning vehicles over a certain age from central areas.

It's all being done 'for the sake of the environment', which is total b****cks. As with ALL politicians, it's about grabbing money and the motorist is an easy target.

  15. Just don't try driving into it to knock it out.... they're "well 'ard"....

there's one across the road from us at work. a few years ago a transit smahed into it, pretty much totalled the front of the van, it completely knocked the postbox out of the ground (and they go in about 2 feet) and barely scratched it!

I used one of them as a ground anchor a few years back, they're well solid.

Someone had side-swiped my mates Ford Granada outside his house and in doing so had pushed the front suspension crossmember and mountings backwards.

A Tirfor winch anchored to the postbox and an application of the FB hammer soon had it back in good-enough shape to sell it on

  16. Anyone know of any more of those military parts catologues?? I was really interested to see what spec my 90 was issued with, as I think it has been through a couple of different guises while it was in service.

The reg was 57KG88, the reg's on the sept 86 catalogue starts at 79KE, not sure of the relevance or if it means mines loads older. Interestingly, it was only brought into service in November 88 according to the cast off documents.

I scanned those two catalogues originally.

I scanned them at work and in doing so ruined their scanner. which they never replaced as the photocopier could double-up as a scanner, but the quality was dreadful so I never did any more.

I've also got the catalogue for the 1986/87 military 90's, as well as the catalogue for the 1990 military V8 110's, and as soon as I've setup my swish new HP ScanJet at home, I'll scan these and put them up on my webspace.

When our TA Regiment were issued with a large number of brand-new 90's and 110's in 1987, the REME LAD that I was a member of, got issued with the 90 and 110 civilian parts books + these Supplementary Military Parts Books. These became obsolete when the AESP (Army Equipment Support Publication) parts book was eventually issued, so I thoughtfully took them into protective custody

  17. I had a look at Maplins and the 101 other websites that sell this exact same adapter. They all seem to have exactly the same worded description.

I thought, like you, that the '2nd audio connector' looked more like a row of jumper pins, but looking closely at one of the larger pictures on one of the websites, the pcb at the back of the two audio connectors appears to show them connected in parallel.

There doesn't appear to be any jumpers or dip switches on the board, so I would guess that it either requires it's own IDE channel, or it has to be used with a 'cable-select' IDE cable.

  18. Paul- what do the mounting brackets actually do?

The mounting brackets are angle brackets that give you more mounting options for the slides than the traditional vertical drawer mounting. They allow you to mount the slides to the floor, or mount a flat tray to the slides.

These pictures explain it better than my words -

    634Brackets.jpg

    634BM.jpg

    634SM.jpg

I've bought two pairs of brackets to use with a pair of 9301 slides to bottom mount my dual-battery tray to the floor of the N/S Jerry-can locker.

For example - You could use a similar mounting arrangement to make a slide-out base for a fridge or tool chest.
