  1. alreet chaps.. has anyone had any experience of using smith and allan fluids, more specifically their dexron ATF..they seem to be reasonably priced and have excellent feedback on ebay. need to buy 4ltr so just want the nod before i do really and out of interest whats the difference between dexron 2D and dexron 3...as rave states both are suitable for use in the PAS..defender TD5 ta
  2. Very nice..really need to get round to doing mine soon!! Has anyone any experience with POR 15? A friend used this on a old mk1 golf and had good results
  3. The leak is quite severe so im guessin it's probably going to be a new pump...another question, will driving with the pump fooked cause any damage to the steering box, etc???
  4. now then fellas...my power steering pump is leaking considerably...can the pump be overhauled with new seals or is it a full unit replacement jobby? its a 2000 90 td5 on the plus side of this my arms are gettin a good workout while driving
  5. room could be made for it i suspect and at a fiver even the missus couldnt complain
  6. ok guys, so this is from another forum (forums.pigeonwatch.com) but it makes sense to stick it on here..its to a good cause and after all the prize is one we all would like..so here goes originally posted by Starman on pigeonwatch The Mountain Trust are a charity that help educate Nepalese children and provide health care. A few months back I helped with the transformation of a Land Rover into an ambulance which is currently being shipped out to Nepal (I think it was covered in Land Rover Monthly a while back). Anyhow another Landy has been donated to the trust and they have decided to raffle it off at £5 a ticket to be drawn on the 31st May 2010. I am sure I don't need to tell you lot how good these are so it's got to be worth a punt. The Mountain Trust can be contacted through their website and they have a donations page. The donations page can only accept donations of £10+ so that's a good excuse to buy two and double your chances and can be found here http://www.mountain-trust.org/donate If anyone wants help to buy a ticket they can pm me also The Landy is sitting outside my office at work and I must say it dont look half bad. A coat of matt black on the front bumper/bullbar and a couple of spots mounted on, it will look the part. In fact I'll try and get that done before the draw ..See attached image. Please tick the "gift aid" box as this is worth an extra 28% Don't forget to fill in the box called "Optional Donation Note" with wording something along the lines of "2 Land Rover raffle tickets please" or it will just go down as a donation. The tickets will be sent electronically or through the post. Incidentally I know all the people who set up and run this charity and they all give their time for free and foot most of the administraion bills themselves. Please feel confident that all donations actually get where they are needed and failing that just buy a couple of tickets knowing you have got a chance of winning a 12 seater Landy for a fiver thanks
  7. i replaced the felt on my rear windows, and is relativly easy to get the new felt in, just a case of sliding the window over the new strip so its pinched between the glass and body then manipulating the felt into its channel, took around 15mins per side to do..and i got mine from LR was about £5 however having done this around 10 months ago the windows are now starting to rattle again (these weather conditions have made the felt worse)..alternatives are out there like felt lined U-channel which i will be going for next time around
  8. hi neil as said dont think theres any need for castor correction cheapest option and keep the lift would be replace with your original springs (if u stil got em) and get some 2inch spacers off ebay for about 30-40quid, and sell your springs to make up the cash..sorted
  9. yes thats correct, i too read that article and is on my to-do list, well, has been for about a year ive been told that the central locking module and alarm module need to be wired together so the central locking takes its switched feed from the alarm module rather than its own via manually turning the key...if i remember correctly this was explained after i asked the exact same question to an car alarm/security guy any professional car security firm should be able to sort it for you
  10. ive bent 2 keys already in these f*&kin frozen locks, one now after manipulation only just goes in the ignition barrel if only id have known about this grease trick before off to LR to get new keys not a happy chappy
  11. get em and save yourself problems further down the line, as suggested, get a wading kit for your engine too
  12. not tried this setup..but you can get +2" turrets from most part suppliers inc, john craddock, paddock, m&m etc..
  13. finally got round to checking the filter...and the dash light remains...so i guess ill need a new filter and water sensor...unless there are anymore suggestions?? thanks
  14. driving to work this morning and noticed the fuel filter warning light was on.. according to manual this means there is excess water in the fuel? any ideas on how to solve? is it down to these weather conditions, and a new filter would solve it? thanks
  15. just had gearing problems myself, but turned out to be the linkages yours almost definatly sounds like the lever bias as les has suggested easily adjusted
  16. hey guys..success had a chance to look at on sunday..by which time the gear selection was completely shagged, it wouldnt go in reverse or 3rd or 5th..anyway had a look at the bias, all of which was fine, took the selector unit off the box and found the linkages had all come apart, got em fixed up and voila back to normal again!!!
  17. will be checking clutch level later 2nite and box levels at weekend along with mounts and bias aswell, hopefully bias will be the problem and a simple solution..what i dont understand is how it was perfectly fine, then all of a sudden jams up? thanks for the info guys
  18. thanks guys..i'll check bias but not sure if thats the problem as the gear stick sits between 3rd and 4th in neutral and changing to and from these from this point is fine..problem is when changing up from 2nd to 3rd, then it jams up... ..also dont know if i never noticed this before or just gettin paranoid but when in 5th gear the stick looks as through its in 3rd (goes in then springs back quite a way to the left) i'll check my levels tho beastie and see if it helps..oh and the box is a R380 (1999 td5) ta
  19. just to add, if i push in and slightly to the right it goes in ok, no crunching etc....
  20. driving fine tuther day, went to put into 3rd gear and it wouldnt go, nor would it go into 4th. put back in to neutral and tried again and it went in..its done this about 6 times today now, mainly only 3rd/4th gears..absolutly fine before this and no other gearbox/axle problems i know of..im thinking its the gear linkages??? advise please anyone had this? ta
  21. what about insulating inside the seat boxes, surely this will disperse some of that heat, maybe foil backed foam, etc??
  22. i wouldnt advise fitting different shocks to front and back, but if you must, check the preloads, bump, and rebound forces to make sure say the backs not majorly softer then the front or vise versa, which could give bad drive-ability, handling characteristics, etc make life easier and get a complete set
  23. cv joint is normally assocated with steering knocks, its noise shouldnt increase with speed id check your wheel bearings as said, and check all other parts for tighness ben
  24. hi guys, i dont intend to use the lights on the road, dont forget they are roof mount and will only be used when off road, shooting etc..anyway i have all components ready now for the wkend and should get round to it on sunday, and will hopefully get it finished then , fingers crossed
