  1. hi you state you have a 2001 so have one fuel pump in the o/s rear wheel arch area can you hear any fuel running through the pipes when you turn the ignition on in the engine bay ?? if not the fuel pump is not running if you bang the pump it will start to work now does it start ?? if you can hear fuel in the pipes with the ignition on then chances are it is a injector leaking back fuel to the return line. to test this remove engine covers and air box cover and unbolt the injector loom and move aside remove the leak off pipe the small on on top of the injectors and clamp pipe off. turn ignition on and if a injector has failed you will see fuel leaking out of the top of the injector??? the fuel pressure must build up to a set pressure to start if a injector is leaking back it can not so will not let the engine run. hope this helps
  2. Hi did it drive ok before you run the car on axle stands?? as this can cause all sorts of faults to stored in the abs/tc and engine ecus causing all sorts of problems. might be worth taking to a dealer to read and clear fault codes, they should charge you max 1/2hr labour. main dealer computer t4 reads more codes than some after market ones might be worth a go?? if it turns out to be the pump it could be cheaper to go to a diesel pump specialist to recon your pump instead. hope this helps
  3. hi this is fairly normal disco3/4 and sports on the fuel flap is states to check the oil level every 600mls. oil comsumption is mostly due to higher boost pressures used in modern engine.
  4. hi does your freelander have air con ? if it does it will do as you report when the a/c compressor cuts in engine rpm will drop and recover and cooling fans will cut in & out. also if a/c is switched off and heater controls set to screen a/c is also automatical turned on. hope this helps
  5. Hi might be worth checking the feed & ground to the glass also have had the relay and wiring between the body and door fail before.
  6. hi if i can remember the abs sensors is the early type that push in if so remove it and clean the end (its magnetic and can pick up sworf over time)and push it fully home and retest need to drive over 5-10mph if still on then swop the sensors at the front and get the faults re read and see if the fault swops side then you know if its the sensor and not the cv or wiring also if you spin up the wheel by hand and place a volt meter between the sensor pins it should generate a small volts if working correctly do the same with the good side to check results. is the fault defently the sensor as the brake light switches were a common cause of the light on dash and the brake light may still be working even though the swicth is defective hope the helps jon
  7. Hi has any one fitted a lift kit to a freelander 1? there seam to be 2 options spacers on top of shocks or new extended springs and shocks as i use the car every day what would be the best all round option?? also does any one know some one who sells afordable under body protection?? many thanks jon
  8. hi the pipe you describe is the turbo actuator vent (works on vacume and exhaustes equalizes) and is protected by the filter which should be clean and is part of the service secdule. if capped off or blocked the turbo does not operate correctly. There is normaly a small section of black pipe on the end of the filter to stop the clip from sliding off. the pipe runs from the turbo modulator/ solinoid mounted on the duct by the turbo at the back of the engine to the filter. hope this helps
  9. hi yes there is a threaded allen plug in the head that has a o ring seal that over time shrinks and leaks the only way to replace it is to remove the exhaust manifold not to easy hope all the nuts undo.
  10. hi not sure what model you have but it sounds like you have a split or leaking turbo hose or intercooler look for oil leaking out of the pipe or cooler.
  11. hi there is a bulitin on gtr for that fault if you can get the fault codes read then that might help you out.
  12. Hi as per gtr bulitin I replace the now modified oil rail in the sump (the head bolts screw into it)as the old one does not mentain the head bolt torque over time. we fit the multi layer head gasgit & metal dowls, oil rail and head bolts every time and have no failures. also its worth fitting the remote coolant level sensor kit as can be a engine saver!!
  13. The best way is to remove the inlet manifold (fit new rubber gasgit)clean out the the vavle (a ball bearing in a cup)and refit and bleed system they normaly block up due to no antifreeze to stop it rusting up. hope this helps jon
  14. 75 defv890.........................Tonbridge, Kent 1.8 5dr sreg
  15. Hi can you see any leaks on either end and check the fluid level to see if its low. Also if you remove the slave cylinder (gearbox end) is the cluch arm stiff to move as this will soon kill your hydrolics hope this helps jon
  16. hi tryed to fit a clutch to my 1.8 s reg on the weekend got the box out no problems went to fit the new clutch but the cover will not fit on the dowls. run to dealer and checked there found the same. go to parts factor turns out my clutch is a rover one so must the flywheel?? MY QUESTION TO YOU IS DO I HAVE A ROVER ENGINE????? my engine number is 18KFL50547545 everything else looks the same but not sure. can any one help many thanks
  17. Hi does any one know what size i can fit to my s reg freelander with 15' rims as want to fit dfg all terrain's to it ??
  18. hi sounds like your battery is seen better days it has the volts but probily not got the amps to start the car. when its cold the battery is weaker so any faults show up. i would get it tested at a garage or fit a new battery. make sure its the right amps as fitted as standard. different between petrol and diesel. hope this helps jon
  19. hi the most common cause of repeat failure of the manifold us usualy the lower engine mount worn out and excessive engine movement & crackes the weakest point the weld joint.
  20. hi I would be interested in your a/c system from your defender instead of skipping it. I am going to LRmax could meet you there if your going?? regards jon
