  1. My rear axle is in need of some tlc and for £285 delivered for a rebuilt axle i thought it was quite good. Has anyone used them and would recommend them?
  2. Cheers guys. This is why I asked the question; hadn't thought that way
  3. This is a bit OT but could still be useful for others.... I have started making architectural models for my brother in law (architect) and I'm struggling to find an aid for cutting angles into sheet edges (for mitre ing the corners on buildings etc). Its mainly for quite thin sheet (scalpel/stanley knife cut) and can be done without a guide but its easy to mess up. For thicker stuff i've got a track saw and mitre chop saw but these tend to rag the edges of thin stuff. Any suggestions are very welcome Cheers Matt
  4. I've just had to take mine out to get to the gearbox and have left it out whilst waiting for the part (gear lever gate has disintegrated). My god its noisier in the cab without it! I've got some foam stuck to the panels but nothing else and the difference is amazing. Not sure how I drove it before! Whilst its apart I am thinking of upgrading the foam to dynamat type stuff to make it super quiet....
  5. I had to pack underneath the window channels to stop the glass moving up and down. Mine wasn't bad enough to get past the catch but thats about the only thing I can suggest.
  6. I need to replace all the track rod ends/ball joints in my 109. Does anyone have any advice on what make to go for? Do i bite the bullet and fit genuine or are there non-genuine/oem that are as good for less? Cheers
  7. Big red button... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjQA8lqyqfw
  8. I've just taken my x-brake off to clean it up as its covered in oil. I thought it was going to be the rear output seal but now I can see it it looks pretty good (but I'll change it anyway). I've looked in the workshop manual and the speedo housing only has shims and no mention of sealant/gaskets. Do people usually bung some sealant on there? and if so what kind? I'm not sure if that will solve the problem as I also have an overdrive (new gaskets about two years ago) that could be part of the problem. Is it also worth changing the gasket on the transfer box bottom cover plate (not sure this has been done since I bought the vehicle!). I was also thinking about putting in breathers after seeing this http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=90195&page=2 Would that help? I'd just like to get rid of some of the oil.... Cheers
  9. How well does the flashband stick? I'm probably going to be taking the floor out soon so might as well have a go when its all out
  10. Good work. It looks very tidy. Certainly better than the one I ended up with!
  11. Very jealous. I really want to go back, even for a short break but the wife is having none of it! Apparently we have to go somewhere warm....
  12. I spoke to a friend at our local chandlery today and he recommended Marine 16 diesel treatment. http://www.marine16.co.uk/acatalog/Diesel-Fuel-Complete-500ml-60.html http://www.marine16.co.uk/acatalog/Fuel-Treatments-Guide.html He reckons all the yachties think its great, and as they have to deal with diesel issues far more often I thought I'd give it a go. I have also been told it will reduce fuel consumption and make the engine run far better..... I may well start another thread to keep updated with my findings
  13. So after further inspection I decided to renew the pipe from fuel tank to lift pump and the fuel filter. I also took the fuel lines off from the filter and cleaned them. The tank pick up filter and fuel filter both had an orange slimy substance in them. Someone has told me this is probably water in the diesel. Not entirely sure. Hopefully the tank isn't letting in water as its only a few years old. The only difference otherwise is that i filled up from tesco to use a money off voucher. Anyway... Took her out for a drive and all running fine. Fuel gauge was reading low so went and put £20 in (not from tesco) and it still didn't move. Went home to investigate and found that the float had come off! Cue some diesel fishing without any luck.... Luckily we had a spare in a long buried box so it now works but I have a float drifting about my fuel tank. So I think its problem sorted. If I have got water in the diesel do I need to drain the tank or can I just keep topping it up to dilute it?
  14. I'll nip down the road now and buy a load if they're worth that much! Edit: One quick google later http://www.baysidemarine.co.uk/stainless-steel-boat-folding-mast-step-1071-p.asp
  15. Cheers. Is it worth blowing through the line from tank to filter with the filter off to clear anything that may be there? Also if I need to replace the fuel line(s) is it best to use the standard plastic pipe and where's the best place to get it?
  16. Cheers for the replies. Looks like I'll be changing the fuel filter and checking the pick-up and breather. Hopefully that sorts it out
  17. Last night the wife and I were heading up to the west country to go camping in the 109. We got progressively slower until we were barely getting over 30. Pulled over to see if there was anything obvious, but there wasn't. Top of the radiator was stone cold after 40 mins but temp guage was reading fine and the rest of the rad and pipework was hot. Turned it off and had a think. Turned it back on and it revved up as good as ever so decided to push on. Made it about 4 miles before same thing happened again. It was running fine until I hit 45 trying to accelerate up to 60. So we had a lovely evening sat in a layby south of salisbury waiting for the RAC, who just sent a recovery vehicle. 4 hours later we got back to where we started! Dropped it off the truck and it started fine and drove as if nothing was wrong up the road to the house. Pretty sure its a fuel issue but the radiator thing threw me a bit. Having a google it seems changing the lift pump might be the best place to start. Suggestions and helpful encouragement please (I've heard enough 'just sell the damn thing' comments!) Cheers
  18. We have managed to get age related plates using a Gaydon letter but that was a few months ago. Unfortunately the bulkhead has pretty much fallen off so we're into rebuild territory...
  19. The Green bible (repair operations manual) has annotated diagrams with chassis dimensions. page 76-12. Its for alignment check but may prove quite helpful to you
  20. Pretty much the same.... Probably 40 ish land rover traders. The main autojumble is huge but they stick the landies in a field on their own at the furthest point from the entrance so you get no through traffic. Newbury is definitely better but we managed to get rid of stuff that has been sat in boxes for ages and not sold at newbury before now. I guess some down here don't travel as far as newbury! Its quite good that you can get into the whole of beaulieu with your admission, so my brother took his kids round the motor museum, but after a few years I guess you'd get bored of that
  21. ....or she wants a very expensive holiday next year
  22. As its just down the road we're taking some tat high quality land rover parts to sell and have a wander round. The autojumble is pretty huge alongside as well. Just wondering if anyone else is heading out today. I know the south coast is a long way for a lot of people

  24. I've been doing exactly the same recently. They are going for lots of money. I managed to pick one up at newbury for £40 but without hinges. (Theyre even harder to find on their own. I got one but I'm going to have to get a second made) I guess its just supply and demand causing the price, but amusingly not enough demand to make it worthwhile for one of the companies to remake them
