  1. I concur with the celotex. We're just building a shed at my brothers as an office and we're hoping to acquire offcuts from a builder friend. For doors and windows we've got hold of some old double glazed units from a local glass company. Might be worth asking around. We are building it from scratch and to size using old roof timbers so it's a bit easier to make second hand windows fit
  2. Glad I posted this now, some interesting replies £24000 seems to be the most basic of basic 90 hardtops. If you want anything extra the price goes up and top of the range appears to be about £50000! Personally I'd love to have a go at a twenty year old 110 if I was able to (time, space, money) but I've already done that with my 109
  3. Take it out and stick a continuity tester on it. Go round all the possible points where it could be earthing. My guess would be somewhere around where the terminals go through the plate. Have you tried running wires bypassing the loom to eliminate any chafing of insulation? Probably would be easier to get a new one...
  4. A mate recently test drove a new defender and was quite shocked at how basic the basic model is for £24,000 (ish), which got me thinking about how much land rover you could get for your money if you had 24 grand to spend on a rebuild. Would you end up with a better vehicle than buying brand new? So where would you start? Couple of hundred quid on ebay for a vehicle? How much would all the new parts come to?
  5. I believe they bolt to captive nuts on a plate that you slide into the capping. Still pretty fiddly if I think that's what you're talking about
  6. Looks good. I'm now tempted to do simular. Where did you get the paddle latch?
  7. Am I allowed to move that into the other thread? Obviously it would need the chequer plate removing. Is the dash covered in chequer effect vinyl? Why?
  8. I finally decided to tell the DVLA that I've got a 200tdi in my 109 and have received a letter asking for a form of evidence (despite it having passed two MOTs since it was done). They want one of the following A reciept of purchase from a garage confirming details An inspection report from AA RAC etc An insurance inspection report Written confirmation from engine manufacturer showing engine number and size. The easiest would be the receipt but as it wasnt done at a garage... So which option is going to be the cheapest and easiest? Any suggestions? They have sent me a replacement V5 with the original specs on so I could just carry on but I'm worried about insurance not paying out if something goes wrong (despite them knowing its a 200tdi). Cheers
  9. I'm sure I saw a car with pretty much land rover seats in but foolishly didnt register the make. It was some kind of eastern make and I swear the front seats were exactly the same as defender ones. Upholstered a bit differently tho. Not very helpful as i cant remember the make but worth looking out for...
  10. A thought struck me today that kickstarter might be a very good system for members to get clever modifications from other members. If you dont know, kickstarter is a web based company that allows anyone to start a project and try to raise funding for that project http://www.kickstarter.com/ Essentially your backers pledge money to get you enough to get the project made, and in return they get the finished item and maybe a reward if they paid more. The important thing is you dont actually pay any money until the project is completely funded, so if no one else pledges you dont lose any money. Just thought it might be very useful here if someone comes up with a particularly clever mod that lots of people would be interested in it could be made and everyone would get one. I dont work for them or anything, just seen it get good results in other areas (I play wargames as well as mess with land rovers!).
  11. We did the same. Its easy to forget the gates aren't open when you get the swarm as you start unpacking (I seem to remember the same thing happens at car boot sales). Probably could have got more money for some stuff but the object of the exercise was to get rid of clutter so not too bothered Didnt buy anything but had a good chat with Si about TDci security options (and the offer still stands to act as a guinea pig vehicle). I was tempted by a set f LED lights from Bolt on Bits but then my uncle bought a pair of defender doors so I had no one to steal any cash from!
  12. Adding a random thought; could you attach the hinges using an Ikea cabinet style fixing? So the bolt head would be a blank and pulled tight by a turned fixing accessible from inside the cab. You can still get the doors off but you at least have to get them open first. May be difficult to adjust the door gaps tho
  13. Loads here and looking like a lovely day. Already shifted some junk.

  15. Sounds ominous....but thank you Good to turned up armed with info AND a large screwdriver
  16. I've got a few years to wait for that as well. I'd be interested to see the % breakdown as well. I bet its pretty low, especially after the scrappage scheme from a few years ago.
  17. As it says in the title really.... Are there any specific faults to look out for with these on top of all the usual land rover stuff. Hoping corrosion wont be too much of an issue as its only six years old.... Cheers Matt
  18. We gained an XC90 tank full of petrol with a hint of diesel from a mechanic friend who was tasked with cleaning out said volvos fuel tank. Apparently they're a pain in the ass to drain
  19. Mine had snapped halfway up. Take it off at the gearbox end and stick a drill on it and see if the speedo moves. If it does its not the cable. If it doesnt then theyre pretty easy to replace
  20. I do love seeing beautiful shiny paint on landrover panels. Wavy! It would probably cost landrover so much in quality control its not worth it. They're better off sticking to their luxury models (on which they make most of the profit on the accessories apparently) and leaving this sort of thing to the aftermarket. If you had millions to throw around you probably would
  21. I've found with my 200tdi that it wont overheat on a long run without a fan at all. I've thought about fitting an electric fan but as i've never managed to get the needle over N i've never bothered.... I get about 29mpg mainly from short journey driving (<5 miles). 200tdi, overdrive, road bias tyres, no extraneous carp. It is however a softop pick up so probably doesn't weigh very much (relatively)
  22. It's a 200tdi so where do I put such a switch? I did think about connecting the fuel stop solenoid to the start position on the ignition, it'd turn over but no fuel would get through (found this out when we fitted the new loom and put the wire on the wrong terminal!).
  23. Hence my question last night about a certain x-eng product.....thank you for the reminder to call them tomorrow
