  1. Hi all just wanted to pick your brains, a while back my local lr garage turned up my diesel pump (200tdi) to make it go a bit faster , since then the rubber diesel pipes sprang leaks and had to be changed and on hard acceleration it has developed a tapping noise a bit like the noise you get when your exhaust developed a hole . I checked under the bonnet rhis weekend and noticed one leak off pipes were seeping diesel - so i changed them , it doesnt seem to be the head gasket as i can feel any leaks behind the bulkhead i was just wondering if that tappeting noise is to much diesel being pumped into the engine?cheers del
  2. cheers , the oil has run quite low - going to change it a the weekend , the exhaust is a bit dicky i know the back box is corroded , just saw the grit in the oil on the dipstick and thought oh no .
  3. hi all , just checked my oil on my defender 200tdi and noticed it was a bit grity , last time i drove it there was a chuffing noise on acceleration a bit like the sound you get from a blown exhaust dont know if anyone has any ideas
  4. hi, has anyone got the part numbers for thr rear and mid exhaust on a 1988 td 90, cheers del
  5. thanks for all the replys, turned out to be a rubber washer from the air filter housing sucked into the turbo and stuck on the impeller!
  6. came back today with avengence as you probably guess by my other posting , i think it must be the turbo , soon as we head off it whines like a police car in the distance until it becomes unbearable and there is lack of power / going to take it to a garage saturday to see what they say does anyone know if ita a expensive fix?
  7. just looked around the air filter pipes and every thing seems in order , once the engine cools down the noise goes away- thats why i thought it had gone away yesterday. \\hen the engine is under load or hot its proper screaming like a major failiure in some component ?
  8. Hi all after my posting yesterday ,took my 90 (200 tdi) out for a short journey , vertually straight away it started whinning on aceration and as we progessed it got louder as the engine warmed up with loss of power , I think it might be the turbo - not loosing any oil but the inside of the air pipe to the air filter did have a coating of oil. Are they repairable/ expensive any replys would be greatly appreciated, cheers del
  9. thats what must have happened when i changed the air filter, the pipe was dislodged, and then came apart on the motorway ,the noise was so loud it sounded like something in the thengine had blown !
  10. i suppose i didnt really loose power , just felt like if i revved the engine it was causing more noise and possibly more damage/ it was the pipe from the tubo to the air filter that had become detached, did notice it had a good coating of oil insde it
  11. hi all serviced my retro fitted 200 tdi 90 on saturday , took it out for a drive today ,got on the motorway got up to 50 heard a noise similar to a belt snapping - terrible noise and loss of power . pulled over callled rac, waited thought i might have done some serious damage but turned out to be the air hose to the air filter had detached , once refiited seemed to cure it does that sound about right?
  12. cheers , its the top hose that goes into the oil filter housing , looked for one at sodbury today couldnt find one , dont suppose anyone has a part number or is it just a standard fit
  13. hi all got a little puddle of oil on the top of my front axle , it seems to be comming from the union between a ridgid metal pipe from the top of the rad and a rubber pipe (200 tdi) is it any thing to worry about , its sort of doing battle with my power steering box leak !,cheers del
  14. Charles bennisons ,were brilliant for bits for my defender engine , not in sheffield but they deliver and have every thing
  15. the new nitromors isnt as good as the old stuff, the fun police have removed the chemical that made it bubble up and remove the paint qiuckly , still does the same job but slower -and is better for the enviroment woohoo!!!
  16. cheers , i will give the 5amp fuses a whirl , thanks very much
  17. changed the bulb holder , tried a couple of 3amp fuses that blew , now im running on 8amp , What would cause the lower amp fuses to blow ? . Cant seem to get the right size fuses ,the ones from halfords are a bit to long
  18. took it apart its the bulb holder , but it keeps on popping fuses - is it ok to put in a larger amp fuse?
  19. Just simple one , side light passenger side packed up ,changed bulb -no joy , fuse blown - changed that , now bulb lights up only when you push the bulb in hard and the goes out when released into its resting place (if you know what I mean!) . Does it need a new bulb holder?
  20. bit of a simple one , does any one know the bulb I need for front side light on a 1989 90, got two so far from motor factors and both dont fit, cheers del
  21. I got a second hand one at billing , there seemed to be a few of them knocking about so i thought there maybe a problem with them
  22. Are they a good idea to cut down engine noise?
