  1. Hi all got some grease leaking out from the rear rubber hub cap on my 90 ,any thing to worry about?
  2. If you change the filler cap for a new one if the cleaning method doesnt work can you chamge the new key barrel for the old one?
  3. Had a similar problem with my 2.5l td 90 ,when you opened the fuel cap it hissed like opening a can of coke!.Thought it might be a blocked breather tube, spoke to my mechanic who had a similar problem with another 90 and he sugested drilling a hole in the diesel filler cap wich i did and it seemed it cure it,i dont know if this helps
  4. someone told me if you remove the diesel filter and put in a decent injector cleaner like whurth into the filter then pop it in for the mot it pass ,dont know if thats true or not
  5. I was planing on removing the bumper a bar from my 90 and changing it to a new bumper, when I got a socket on the bolts a while back it felt like one of the bolts sheared, are they just standard m10 bolts or should I source proper landrover ones, cheers del
  6. There are many suppliers in the landie magazines, but you would probably get a good deal at a show
  7. Craddocks do them i think they are about £15, i think they clip on a backing plate-if that helps
  8. i would drive it around for a bit if it was me ,if was of before it might sort itself out. Ive found with landies they like to be regularly used ,del
  9. cheers just like to ask opinions before I tackle a job, thank all
  10. Hi all ive got a 1988 90 its got one of those a bars on the front with a couple of landrover spot lights on it . I wanted to strip it off and put on the standard bumper on , how do you take the bar off it seems to be bolted to the bumper and chassis , I picked up a bumper from billing on saturday and was going to fit it asap and was just wondering the right way to tackle the job, I spapped one of the bumper fixing bolts off when I tried to remove it awhile back to , i suppose you can just change them for a standard m10,any thoughts will be appreciated, del
  11. Try giving the starting motor a clunk with a hammer ,my series 1 starter failed like this on the morning I was taking it for its mot ,I think a bit of damp got in it, after a few taps it worked fine and has been for the last 6 months
  12. I think the military used to spray the underside of there vehicles with a deisel/oil mix, but I just coat my 90 once a year with wax oil and spray the rear crossmember with a can of hammerite smooth, del
  13. mine the same (1988/90)clouds of some , like the start of a jack the ripper movie!!!, Ive love it its part of landrover ownership -like leaks-like breakdowns ect-ect-ect
  14. I bought some fire style alloys for my 1988 90 and they fit but you cant fit the plastic centers of the alloys , so you have to live with the black plastic hub centres sticking out of the center. The later defenders with discs all round you can fit the alloys and centre trims, you could also fit wheel spacers but I think they quite expensive
  15. Ive got a 90 side hung tail gate in my shed some where I think its ex mititary
  16. Even if you dont do the welding you could do all the cutting unbolting refitting and get a mobile welder or drive it to a garage to do all the stuff you a bit worried about doing yourself
  17. hi there i think new cross members are about £120 odd but you can get them a hell of a lot cheaper at the landrover shows , a decent landrover specialist will give you an over the phone price, probably 4-6 hours work ,but if your new to the landrover world get yourself a welder and have a go at fixing it yourself, its half the fun of ownership!
  18. Hi all, had my 90 resrayed last year and since then ive had a leak everytime it rains in the drivers footwell. I had the windscreen rubber replaced at the same time, at first I thought it might be the vent seals so I changed them but to no avail. I dont know if its the windscreen rubber to blame ,can water get through them? ,has anyone had a similar problem?
  19. I had the spare on the back door, then fitted paddocks spare wheel carrier wich was a pain un clicking it every time you wanted to get in the back ,now ive fitted the wheel behind the seats with the bracket and clamp from landrover that you usually see on the back of the tub on truck cabs if you know what I mean
  20. Ive been driving my 19j 90 for 5 years without a problem ,I dont bolt about in it doing 60mph ,I also leave it for about 10 second after stopping to let the oils in the turbo lubricate all the bits ,as per the manual, I think landrover got the standard engine in the 1980s and plopped a turbo on top,and if you drive around like a looney the pressure will crack the block. The later 200/300 engines are suppost to be smoothe ect but I prefer the older style, ive got a series 1 as well and enjoy a nice summers day with a big queue a traffic behind me as I plod about at 30 mph ,del
  21. Hi all ,did a good one last week ,drove up to gaydon to find oil splattered up the back door of my 90 looked underneath to find puddles of oil under the engine ect . Popped the bonnet to find I hadnt put back the oil filler cap !!!!! slightly relived I hadnt blown my engine I mopped up what I could ,topped up and drove home . Ive cleaned up all I can and was wondering if its a good idea to get the engine steam cleaned, its the original 19j and the filler cap isnt exactly tight? cheers del
  22. Great stuff thanks very much, del
  23. Hi all ,new member ive got a 1989 90 (and have had for 5 years) has anyone got the part name and number for the rubber seal on the outside of the of the front driver/pass side door. Its the seal that presses against the door glass that winds up and down. Ive just changed the doors I think they are a later type because the corners on the inside of the doors are slightly rounded if you know what I mean!
