Hi all , ive got a 1989 90 with a power steering box thats leaking from the top,of all places! its a 4 bolt but im after the part number theres a few new ones on ebay with differing part numbers and prices,cheers del

might be a wheel bearing or a universal joint on one of your prop shafts

Got a 1988 90 , im retrimming the seats, the plastic buffers on the back of the driver and pass seat are smashed dont suppose anyone has the part number -cheers del

Going to retrim my seats , to remove them is it just undo the four bolts - is there any thing to watch out for , are they likley to shear?

Were abouts is the earth cable on the block?

hi all got a defender with 200 tdi fitted , the battery is probably 2 years old , the starter is about 4 years old , when I dont use the truck for a few days and turn it over it wants to start first time but seems to drain all the power out of the battery and makes the alarm kick in and start bleeping as if all the power has gone. Put one of those battery gadgets that show the strenght of the battery and alternator and it gives good readings , is it the starter- battery or alternator at fault any suggestion would be great cheers del

when mine was smoking turned out to be the timming and lift pump

I cant see why the would want a garage report for a similar engine transplant? , its not like im trying to get around the lez regulationns or something, surely they hare the big computer that can tell what the engine is from the id number?

Hi all , had a 200tdi fitted to my 90 to replace the old 2.5td , rang the dvla to register the new engine they were saying that i need a letter off the garage to confirm the change ,has anyone had a similar siuation, surley the old td and the 200tdi are the same capacitys ?

I set fire to my series 1 by just trying to fit an original heater switch!, same sort of thing fire blankets ect, electricary- a black art in my book-

Ive just bought a set of 30mm steel wheel spacers for my 90. Ive got some disco alloys on at present , these spacers havent got any studs fitted to them, the guy i bought them off said to buy studs from paddocks and hammer them in and away you go. Is this right ? are defender studs all the same ? and do you hammer them in or is it better to get them pressed in with a press at a garage?

hi all, got a smokey 200 tdi ,someone mentioned theres an additive you can add to the engine to sort of coat the pistons is it worth it?

I will check it , thats a good point , when I took the old cable off it seemed to work freely although the speedo needle was jumping around I thought it was the cable catching thats why I changed it -so maybe the speedo wants changing too

no I dont thinks ao ,no kinks -obviously something gone wrong some were!

Took the speedo off this morning and left the end exposed , went for a drive and the end of the cable didnt move - so i reconected the speedo head took off the connection at the gearbox , put a cordless drill on it to test if the speedo was working and the needle didnt move is it possible that the speedo and the drive in the box have both failed?

cant hear any rattles , when my series 1 speedo went the needle was bouncing all over the place and it made a hell of a noise , I'm a total novice and when I changed the cable I think it was properly located- its still fitted into the gearbox tight and I took the dash off and it seems to be ok but I'm not too sure its only a push fit and im not certain that i fitted it correctly, it did work for s few dsys
