  1. I've sent Les a PM (i think) but no reply yet. I've sent an email to conqueror, driving to Salisbury for the day is cheaper than the £350 that the local guys want!
  2. Afternoon hivemind, its time for a cambelt change on my 300tdi defender. After googling i came across this thread: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/cam-belt-price-where-go-132068.html which sounded pretty good - about £150. I've just started emailing and ringing around locally (Bristol ish) and have been quoted between £350 and £450! For that difference its worth driving up to Leeds and back! Anyone know of anywhere a bit more local to me that would be worth ringing? Thanks all!
  3. Sorry to resurrect this thread but I need to upgrade my lights too. Is there any implication of buying headlights that are not fitted with a sidelight? My current defender has a sidelight in the main light and one above the indicator, so can I just have the little separate sidelight?
  4. That's a good idea, thanks Can anyone answer my question?
  5. i have nowhere to store them! i work in a bike shop so borrowing tools for a few hours is fine, just need to know which ones!
  6. This weekend I hope to replace my old steering damper. However, since having no tools I'm going to have to borrow some spanners from work. Can someone tell me what size spanners I'm going to need to do the job? Its a 300tdi if that makes any difference. Thanks!
  7. Afternoon, during jacking my 110 up via the crossmember there was a creaking noise, followed by me rapidly ratcheting the jack down again. On inspection the crossmember has turned mainly to rust So, due to the absence of welding equipment / space / skills, can anyone recommend a decent place to get the work done in the south west, preferably around Bristol? Anyone who's had this done recently, how much is reasonable to pay? Cheers all!
  8. how much was yours? they don't list prices on their website. cheers
  9. I'm replacing my 300tdi alternator and thought i should do the belt at the same time. Since the place I've ordered my alternator from doesn't do belts, wheres the best place for small orders like "just a belt". most places seem to charge £6 + VAT which seems quite high. Has anyone used eurocarparts.com? They have free shipping but I'm not sure which belt is the right one, they have lots for Defender and none seem to be correct. Cheers!
  10. i'd like to keep the smoke in, doing its job :-) 65amp is what i think i'll go for. no problems with wood auto?
  11. morning! not sure if here or the part number request place is best for this but... i need a new alternator on my 300tdi defender. there seem to be two listed, a 65amp and 100amp. are they interchangable depending on the load or do you need to use the right one. going by a few posts on here, wood auto have been recommended and they seem to work out cheapest for the 65amp one. will this one wood auto fit the bill? i think i need to replace the belt at the same time as its looking a bit worn. worth doing the tensioner at the same time? cheers!
  12. so, no-one recommending the coopers then. :/ what about sizes? 235/85, 265/75, 255/85. whats the best and why, or is there no answer and they're all the same :-)
  13. moneys not too tight, i had discounted remoulds cos i had heard they're not as good as new tyres. i think i can probably go to about £120 per tyre, which i know is close to BFG money but plus wheels i can't really go over £600 all in. the coopers and at2s seem to come out at £400 ish by themselves or £550 fitted on wheels
  14. not heard very many good things about the traction track, i seem to remember a magazine review that said they were very loud. i tend to do about 6000 miles a year, so not lots, but some motorway
  15. live in a very small flat, and have no space to store any more wheels :/
  16. its nearly end of year bonus time at work, which means the one time per year i can actually afford to buy something for the truck! this year its time to replace the mismatch of worn 7.5 r 16 tyres on the 110. the majority of my driving is road stuff, but i don't want to be embarrased when i finally get to go to a few pay and play sites this summer. also, i would like to go for some wheels at the same time, so packages would be best. i think i want 265/75/16 but maybe 235/85 as these seem to be cheaper but whats best? oh, the ones that have caught my eye are cooper discoverer st, cooper stt (maybe a bit too mud-based) and general at2. bf goodridge always get good reviews but i think they may be a bit rich! thanks to the collective knowledge :-)
  17. glad his business is going well. just got mine today, as well as some rear speaker housings. all good stuff :-) best of luck for the future mark! (if he sees this!)
  18. how long did you give them to reply? i would always give a few days before sending again, not everyone sits waiting for emails. i've just bought some stuff from them and mark was extremely helpful and polite on his email.
  19. thats very interesting. is it written anywhere or just a "guide". £11 over the bridge in my 110 hardtop seems a bit steep!
