  2. Sounds to me like an issue with the switch. Not sure about freelanders but on defenders and series landys there is a separate feed on the switch for 'parking' the wipers. It is certainly a common problem on them.
  3. I take it overfill is not a good idea?
  4. New issue. Now the dipstick for the gearbox keeps popping out?? I guess maybe there is too much oil? It is high on the dipstick but I put exactly 9.7l into it?
  5. New cooler fitted, oil changed, running perfect. :-)
  6. I bought this but I'm a bit worried now that it is not the right one. It looks to big now I've got the old one off. I'll have to wait and see what arrives I suppose. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200910680579?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
  7. I have found a major(ish) oil leak from what looks like an external oil cooler. Part number ESR2276, I will replace it and see what happens
  8. If it is not the wiring it is either the gauge or sender. Senders are under £10 and easy to fit so I would try that first.
  9. Sorry, it is a 2.5 dt BMW Engine. I have found that it does tend to improve as it warms up. I dipped the oil in the gearbox and it was very low and very dirty. I only changed the oil and filter on it 3 months ago. I am going to put new oil in it on Tuesday and see how that helps. I don't think its worth putting a new box on it as she is getting on a bit.
  10. Hi, I've been having issues with my gearbox the last few days. It's a 1996 2.5 DT automatic. It is just pleasing itself when it changes gear, sometimes it stays in what I'm guessing is second. I have plugged it into my Hawkeye and there are no faults listed in the transmission. It is either an ECU issue or an actual mechanical fault in the box. I did read on here some time ago that there is a separate doodah that changes the gears but I can't find the post. As always any help much appreciated.
  11. New fault now. Occasionally on start up it tells me there is an HDC fault. Boo.

  13. £5750 is high for any P38 in my opinion. The 6 month warranty may come in handy but I'd check it carefully. Does it cover suspension collapse? Electrical problems?
  14. That was 10 seconds of searching. You will find loads. Shop around. Try all the buttons especially the suspension.
  15. For £3,000-£4,500 you could get a very nice DSE. As with any car over 10 years old you should be prepared to do some maintenance and will need to be reasonable with a spanner. It is also a good to befriend someone with a good diagnostic machine. If you are not short on money a 4.6 HSE is a brilliant car. I got one in pristine condition last year for half your budget. I had to sell it though as 10-11 MPG is not nice and my first name is not sheik I have 2.5 DT at the moment and it has had issues (immobiliser problem) but what with the snow falling here, I would not swap it. 16. Thanks John. Looks like it might be Freelander 1 Lumbar support after all ????
  17. I found this in my workshop It is marked with HHC100520 It looks like a heated seat to me but any search on google etc returns: SUPPORT - SEAT BACK - LUMBAR SUPERCEDED BY: HHC100521 Doesn't look like lumbar support. Can anyone confirm exactly what it is?
  18. The motor runs a rod like cable type thingmy that connects both wiper arms. The rod like cable type thingmy is behind the dash board. Either the teeth on the motor mechanism or the rod like cable type thingmy will be chewed. Not a nice job. Dashboard out if you are of a luckless disposition like me.
  19. When our defender doors go we put series ones in. Just a bit of faffing with catches at first. When its done you will never need to worry about doors again. All you really lose is up down windows.
  20. I don't think that it is a legal requirement for a car to have doors. A bit blowey though.

  22. I know this sounds like a stupid question but is your handbrake OK? The reason I ask is I had some weird electrical problems and it turned out a main earth (shell to gearbox) had snapped and the truck had been earthing it's self through the handbrake cable.
  23. I use this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Nato-Hitch-with-built-in-50-mm-ball-coupling-non-swivelling-3Ton-/220966329993?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item33729e9e89 Works a treat
