  1. what load

Its a diesel and nothing else is running....

battery i believe is in good order never had any problems with it, radio, glow plugs would have been on.

and wouldnt the belt slip on the alternator pulley before the PSP one? being smaller an all? also I thought they only tended to charge about a certain rpm?

Ill get my dad to put the battery on charge and i was planning on trying it without the alternator belt on next weekend.

    cheers

  2. Finally got my car running after rebuilding it! 200tdi disco engine in a 90.

However I now have a problem with the PSP pulley becoming very hot.... Hot enough to start making the belts smell pretty nasty after a few minutes (Without the car moving). The belt doesnt appear to be slipping by eye. It does have fluid in and the actual pump doenst feel particularly hot as its not doing anything.

I have fitted a 300tdi 100amp alternator while doing the rebuild, which was pikied from my dads 300 so was working previously. The pulley on the alternator is becoming hot but no way near as hot as the PSP one.

All the belts line up (not running at an angle) and dont seem overly tight. If you rev the engine there is a squeak like something is rubbing but its not constant and doesnt happen at idle.

Im only getting to work on it at weekends at the moment so will be taking a look at it next weekend so just looking for things to check if anyone can help?

    Cheers

    Jad

  3. Sorry mike I am with you now. took a little while to catch up.... Ill check to see if the smaller connections will fit at all. the same size cable has been used for earth and 12v. which i think may be the 44/0.3. If we cant get them on then I may reduce the size of the live cable.

I havent touched the headlight cabling. still the original, havent had a problem with them though, they seam plenty bright enough.

  4. The right sort of tool for flags, is something like this;

    The right tool

   erm yeah not gonna happen.....

When you have got back up off the floor, terminals like:

    Yellow Flags

Can be crimped in a normal insulated crimp tool as they have the barrel out of the side.

How did you find these??? If they can be done with the normal crimp tool then they have got to be a winner!

    What wire size is it you need to crimp- the uninsulated flags are available in larger sizes than those listed in VWP;

    Large Flags

You can request samples from the tyco website

    good idea!

What sort of heated windscreen do you have ? I wasn't aware that any windscreen needed a 9.3mm [3/8" terminal]. All mine has is the normal6.3mm [1/4"] terminals. I used 28/ 0.30mm cable

The Windscreen is only heated at 12 minutes a time.

I have the heated windscreen with 2 live tabs on the outside and earth in the middle (Defender) and all the links to the terminals have been for 6.3mm....... you cannot have used 0.3mm cable that is way too small would fry in seconds surely? I think my timer relay is for 10 mins.

  5. the lucas one? I only see standard spades terminals from them which we have already. But i wanted flags to keep the tabs off the windscreen straight.

It is being done properly..... by my dad, he has done a lot of wiring in his life. Im not so confident with it, so he comes in handy!

  6. Hi

Just put a heated screen in my 90. It is the type with 3 connections (I think there are 2 different types) left middle right at the bottom of the screen. What is the standard routing for the cabling for these tabs? Does anyone have any pictures of where there's go by any chance?

Currently I am thinking oh routing them under the top of the dash into the ventilation area. The middle one will have to go at an angle though as there is a screw hole in the centre.

Any experience of what you guys did would help a lot.

    Thanks

    Jad

  7. Am i right in saying out there you can have anything on your number plate as long as it is not rude? When I was out there about 5 years ago I saw one car with about 8 I's......

Maybe you should investigate what else is available

  8. Hello everyone

I am currently rebuilding my car. When i took it to pieces I had some people round to help me  Which was nice cos it was completely in pieces by the end of day 1. However one of them  too the clutch slave cylinder out with push rod and therefore the clip off.....

The engine and gearbox are on the new chassis with bulkhead, rear tub floors in drivers side wing on etc

My problem is i cannot for the life of me get the push rod clip back in with the push rod! since i can fit only fit one of me fingers in with it.

By any chance has some one got a tip for putting this back in without separating the engine and gearbox? I have broken the original clip that came out, then ordered 4 more because i don't fancy my chances.....

Is there a trick to it or do i have to take the engine out?

    cheers

    Jad

  9. Soren this really is a thing of beauty!

However! can you please take off the tow bar? It doesn't look much higher than the bottom of the diff....

What are you actually planning on using the land rover for?

and if you ever want to sell them just pm me.....

  10. did you actually look at what the boost gauge was reading when you took the light out? When i got mine it was reading off and the bulb was sticking out of the rubber bit that it sits in affecting the reading. Pushed it further in the rubber mount, popped the bulb back in the guage and voilĂ  working properly.

  11. i bought a sheet of noise killer stuff and cut and fitted it myself to the underside of the bonnet and it made a world of difference to my 200tdi 90. it held well for ages but bits of it started to drop where it got a bit wet and dirty, it does a fair amount of off roading though. I just stuck it back up with sealant and has been solid since.
