Why are the bolts at the transfer box end of the front propshaft put in from the back so one can't remove them easily to replace with new bolts when changing propshafts?
Niamh
bloody good question!i would like to know the answer to this as well.
They are easy to remove, take the prop off then undo the big nut inside the flange.
i think you missed the point.... the diff end you dont have to undo the diff pinion nut.
Could it be so its easier to support the propshaft while putting it on?

thats the kind of thing i was thinking of!

jate rings are fine for alrc events.
The only problems i have found with them are they can pull through your chassis. this is mainly when using one though and not using a short strop between the two.
I have done the RTV nationals for the last 2 years and you shouldnt be able to get so stuck where someone needs to do a snatch recovery. so jate rings should be fine. If you were worried about it then I would go for a tank gaurd with built in recovery points. Since this will probably mount off about 4 holes it will obviously be a fair bit more secure, but obviously cost a bit more.
I am not sure who sells them had a quick google but couldnt find anything. somebody must though.

Hi western
thanks for the reply.
I was just about to ask if you got around to doing it as i didnt get an e-mail cos you edited your post. seems my new dipstick is ok then but im not sure about the tube.
I dont fancy trying to move the olive on the tube as im pretty sure it will ruin it, but i suppose i dont really have anything to lose.
Cheers

Hi Western thanks for the reply. If you could measure your dipstick to the the marks that would be great (I did have to be cheap and get a replacement one
). From where my nut sits on the dipstick at the moment, i dont see myself gaining an extra 7mm there though....
cheers

Sorry! Im still not sure!
Right I have put a 300 turbo on my 200tdi discovery engine in my 90..... The discovery dipstick no longer fits. it is possible to make it fit with bending it but the nut on mine wont budge independently to the dipstick tube and its now a bit knackered....
So my dad had a defender dipstick tube which i have nicked and i ordered a dipstick for it. this one dipstick . firstly could someone confirm that is the right dipstick please?
I measured this up to the disco one that came out and low and behold they are different lengths! I have searched through the forums and found western saying that the the tube should measure 295mm from the top of the nut to the top of the tube. Now thats all very good assuming the dipstick is the correct length.... Here are some pictures of my new dipstick and the tube.
Here you can see my dipstick tube is about 330mm overall and 288 from the top of the tube to the top of the nut.
The dipstick is 414 to the High mark, 426.5 to normal and 436.5 to the low mark from the bottom of the "bell" at the top of the dipstick.
and in the last pictures is shown the distance from the bottom of the olive to where the dipstick goes. about 158/9 mm
So is this right and my disco dipstick had shifted? I cant see any marks on it from the olive moving and I definitely cant move it. Even if i do get this right i may well end up buying another disco dipstick tube and bending that as i dont like the sealing method provided by the mushroom top on the dipstick tube!
(in all this i am assuming that the defender and disco dipsticks sit in the same place and should poke into the sump the same amount as each other)
So does anyone know how far the low mark of the dipstick should go past the olive?
I will of course when i come to fill it with oil do it by measurement and then see where it comes to on the dipstick.
Thank you for you help

example of a through cab snorkel.
its a 300tdi turbo on a 200tdi but really doesnt make a difference apart from the turbo inlet is closer to the bulkhead. Im currently doing this conversion to my car...

is it me or does anyone get a nasty feeling in their gut when they read the name on those tyres? Feels wrong to have them on a land rover!

have you really only just found out??????

sounds like the fuel is draining back down when you leave it for a period of time. need to make sure all the fuel pipe joints are tight and not letting air in.

myself and my dad should be competing in the rtv and ccv
where is it this year???

we took our trialler out for a spin at the weekend (first time), with the radiator in the back and we did not have any problems. The water flowed well even though it goes through pipes through the gbox tunnel and only has the standard water pump. might put a fan on the radiator though there isnt much air flow around it!

I have a Quinton Hazell from paddocks. no problems at all so far.... probably been fitted for 7/8 months. on a 200tdi disco engine

You can try taking a heater pipe off the back of the head, hold it above the heater and pour water in the pipe (Or use a hose pipe) and wait until water comes out of the block, then put the heater pipe back on trying to let as little air in as possible while doing so, and make sure the jubilee clip is already on.

no extra pump is needed, keep the hot water pipe as high as possible ours goes through the gbox tunnel. our ccv trialler is fine like this.
there were some topics fairly recently....
