  1. out of interest where were you planning on routing the pipe work?

Me and my dad have a 200tdi 80 trialler with the rad in the back (Same height as the engine) with no extra pump, that we have just finished building. We have only had it running properly once. My dad thinks it was properly up to temperature but i dont think it was so we cant be too sure if its going to overheat or not yet....

Our pipes go down in the middle, through the gbox tunnel and then up to the radiator. My main thinking is if anything is gonna cause a problem its the "dip" as it having to pump the hot water down first. If your going to do it keep the hot water pipe as high as possible and as hot water rises it should flow ok...

Anyway the first time we are going to use it in anger is the 23rd of this month so I will report back after then. (If I dont then give me a post on here and ill let you know)

  2. right i believe i have a solution. there are 2 lengths of manifold stud I can fit the longer studs to where the shorter studs normally are, which should be long enough (Ill have a look this morning).

There were 2 longer studs where the heater pipe was clamped on with a second nut on the manifold studs. Does anyone see a problem with missing out the second nut and just putting the heater pipe bracket between the manifold and first nut? This should give me the length I need.

Also, Am I ok re using the exhaust/inlet manifold gasket or should i remove the inlet manifold and replace it? Going to order the parts tomorrow so if someone could get back to me that would be great.

    Cheers

  3. Hi everyone

I am replacing my windscreen with a heated one and want to replace the windscreen seal. I have looked online at both replacement and genuine. The genuine are much more expensive (about 3 times). Does anyone have any experience of the OEM ones? Are they any good?

    Cheers

  4. Hi

    I am putting a 300 turbo on a 200 disco engine in a 90.

(I do not want to get into a conversation on the pros and cons)

the manifold of the 300 is thicker than the 200. I therefore need to change the studs in the 200 head. Does anyone know if the 300 exhaust manifolds bolts are the same thread and will fit the 200 head?

    thanks

    Jad

  5. not without modifications to the exhaust, air intake pipe work, dipstick. you would need the 300 oil pipes and some other bits, though it is possible.

If i can find the link there is a fairly decent description plus pictures of a 300 turbo being put on a 200 disco engine in a defender. not quite the same but gives you an idea.

  6. i would like to know how much weight a 90 can carry? i had a 1 ton bag dropped in the back full of gravel plus about 10 x 25kg bags on the passenger seat and wherever they would fit... plus two winches / roll cage and the usual extras.. am i with in the limits of the truck? it drove OK and the OME springs handled it well i thought.

Ha! I believe the standard 90 is 600 kg's...... you were obviously a tad over!

  7. I am a member of Beds Herts and Cambs LRC. I did the MAC4x4 the same year that Russ Brown, a member of the same club, did the MAC4x4 with Julia Bradbury. I sent him the details of this thread. He contacted Gina, Julia's sister and PA who gave this response to Russ:

    Russ

This letter is not endorsed in any way by Julia and feel free to quote me on that.

I have copied you in on an email that I sent to someone else so that you can see my response.

    So someone is telling Porkies.........

  8. The one photographed is for a Defender 200Tdi ;) .... Discovery shouldn't be a problem.

A standard pump modification with the turbo (and ideally a better intercooler) will give a good gain - but there is more you can do!

Are you sure? lol no offence meant. To me it doesnt look right.... you say its a 200def one but, on a def 200 the turbo sits up top and therefore the exhaust goes back down past the manifold. On your third picture the down pipe heads away from the manifold???? meaning it would be sticking out the bonnet. I am most likely wrong and just confused. looks like a 300 to me.....

Anyway i still am very impressed and want one after i have paid for the galv chassis....

  9. A lift/primer pump is a lift/primer pump whether it's britpart vapormatic landrover etc etc it's a diaphram on a cam I use spurious parts on my tractors what's the difference

The difference is the sh*tpart one is sh*t and will break soon meaning you have to buy another, even with a 24 month warranty, if you kept claiming on it your car would off the road for 6 months of the year.

Buy a genuine land rover one 1st time and all should be tickity boo

  10. I dont think your wrong, i just think you are saying it in a different way. your formula is correct. a smaller circumference gives a smaller distance travelled. but the change in shape of the tyre does not effect the cirumference (perimeter) of the tyre which remains the same length, whether the tyre is fully inflated, half inflated or cut in half and rolled out.

  11. so n = d/c thus a smaller c gives a greater n

this is where the problem lies. the circumference is not technically changing length even though the tyre is changing shape.

I would say that they cover the same distance, assuming the rubber of the tyre does not stretch with an increase in pressure and the ground is flat, then there is still the same length of rubber there.

Im guessing many people will argue either way though. anyone fancy conducting a real life test?

  12. Dont worry reckless engineer i wasn't thinking. you will be right it should be the lift pump or a blockage somewhere. but if my some miracle it is a blockage in the injection pump then i would love to see a video uploaded of you eating your boot.....
