  1. Hi guys

myself and a group of friends are looking at going off roading in the pyrenees in june

we were hoping to go with freespirit 4x4 but unfortunately they aren't available to take us

i was wondering if anybody had any routes, gps maps, paper maps, ideas on the back of beer mats that could help us

we are looking at doing 6 days/7 nights and would like to spend as much time off road as possible on moderate routes (dont want to break her on the first day) with breath taking scenery can anybody help???

we are looking at camp through out the whole trip so if any one knows any decent campsites that would be ace too thanks :)

  2. aren't LR building a new engine factory here in UK, that will have to build Euro6 compatible engines, no reason why that can't go in the existing Defender.

Euro 6 engines are a pain in the arse with all the emissions coolers and other faff like exhaust gas cooler, exhaust gas cooler cooler, exhaust gas cooler cooler cooler, exhaust gas heater (cause they cooled it too much)

they would never be able to shoe horn all that carp in

have you ever looked under the bonnet of say a mitsubishi L200?

  3. i have to agree sounds like exhaust gases getting into your coolant which sound like either a cracked block or warped head

but i have had many many an overheating problems with my 300tdi almost everything has been replaced, i also found the small bore bleed pipes to be blocked but on one occasion i also ran with no heater.

    so heres some suggestions

i know it sounds stupid but have you plumbed straight through where the heater should go??

i found when i did this my overheating was worse as the coolant flow wasnt right, id suggest reinstalling heater and also check it out for good flow before re-fitting

also check for any small leaks in the system, if your loosing any pressure then the coolant will boil at a lower temperate, so pipe joints and water jacket plugs are a good part to check

if still over heating try removing your thermostat for a bit or get a lower temperature rated one

  4. for the 5 years ive owned my 90 ive always had overheating problems

    shes had new ;

    2x rads

    1x head

    1x heater

    4x water pumps

    4x thermostats

    2x tensioners

    and annoyingly 6x alternators

all things wrecked by the ridiculous heat

i have just rebuilt my engine and replaced all the hoses and noticed that the small bore breather lines from top of rad and thermostat to the header tank were solid, now shes running again, i can actually see water movement in the header tank!!!! ive never had this before so think that the pipes may have caused a bigger issue than thought

just an idea to see if you have water movement in header tank and all the hoses are clear

oh also the reason for rebuild was because got too hot and boiled oil off causing pistons to viciously attack cylinders haha

  5. well it seems to be that time of year again where i have propshaft failure

probably should have re greased them after her being laid up for 7 months whoops

    anway

id like to get some decent wide angle props this time instead of the cheap britpart poo that was on it

does anyone have any suggestions as to the best i can get, including value for money?

    gwyn lewis?

    bailey morris?

    thanks

  6. Hi all

Just wondering if anybody knows what water and oil temperature a 300tdi should run at?

Mine doesn't say it's overheating on the gauge but I think it's running far too hot

Currently the needle sits in the middle of the gauge but I have no grill ,spotlights or anything in the way of the rad, I also have the electric fan on permanently

My case for concern is that if I go for a long run in her then the oil light comes on when I slow (I think it's getting to hot and therefore to thin to pump) also if you turn the heaters on then it would be possible to boil a cup of tea on the output

So far trying to cool her down I have removed everything from infront of the rad, done a full chemical flush of the water and oil systems and refilled and also a new thermostat

Please help I don't want to cook her again :'(

    Thanks Tom
