  1. HOFS Yellow writing???? On a 'garland esque' PINK background??? Ok bad taste, but whatever the colours are, i think the basic logo/ design is cool, just needs to be the 2008 version.... they could become a collectors set.............. a Tshirt version of NATWEST piggies??? Perhaps i should leave the creativity to others!!
  2. sheeppimp, i knew you would say pink what about HOFS team yellow?
  3. I am happy to purchase the end product ( not the calender, as that appeared while replying ), but i can not help with the making it happen as its something i know nought about!! As the design worked well last year is it possible to keep it along the same lines, but change colours or something subtle to make the 2008 version different to 2007....... Have to keep the exclusivity darling!!!!!
  4. Raumer, Someone else has mentioned a straight 6, and i had forgotten about the Volvo 3.0/ 2.5 six as found in 960's... and yes you are following my thinking, something with ooomph but without the 'in yer face' V8 noise...... subtlety..... and the install of the V8 is 'obvious'. It does seem that with a small amount of thought, that the 109 can be dropped a few inches, tyres for one, then the possible swap to transit flat springs, poss a couple of lowering blocks, and the repositioning of the spring mounts. Any other ideas welcome?
  5. Axle - a LR salisbury has offset diffs, to allow for the transfer box, i dont want a transfer box, want a central diff. And the axles on the donor are wanted by someone else! I just do not want a V8 this time! Anyway, it will be more responsive purely cos its not 4wd.
  6. nicks90, You are kinda in the same ballpark as me with regards to what is being considered. Idea in 'simple recipe terms' A roofless 109, with roll hoops behind the seats, screen folded flat, in ratty peeling camo paint. Remove front axle, replace, allegedly with a front clip from a sherpa, rear axle, is a salisbury type from sherpa(?) or Volvo/ Transit. Lower the stance of the 109 by 4inches for starters, thats half the diff clearance reduced, down to normalish car levels. Yes doing a sled has been discussed but its airbags etc to get the correct effect. Engine and rwd gearbox from volvo, poss a disco mpi with rwd lt77, or a ford type 9 on a zetec/ k series/ vauxhall xe. Intention is to double the normal bhp.... from 70 to 140bhp ish( normal zetec/ xe/ 1.8k factory tune), and loose some weight. ( front axle, transfer box) Make it for a laugh....... for the sake of it. Idea is to build it out of available scrapyard donors, in an old skool hotrod sense. As Jez posted on rogue troopers thread...... a rat rod land rover.
  7. Mr Nightrain, Oooh, i am amused that my 109 thread was taken as an april fool...... did not consider that!! Hey ho.... yes i looked at the wheels but it all went over my head...... i just resolved to look at the piccys, and see what mickey was taken out of Al!
  8. There is no problem with the hybrid. it got a new MOT yesterday. As far as i am concerned, bar ongoing titivation, the hybrid is as i want it...... a straightforward recycle of the old RRC. I do not want any serious lifts, 35's, lockers, winches etc etc. It is what i set out to build. This is exploration of another project..... a new challange for the sake of it, as you put it, 'a little something on the side'. I get a buzz out of exploring ideas, and making stuff..... the hybrid rekindled that, after 'building' lay dormant for 6/7 years!
  9. i did think 110 in the first instance...... just that a donor 109 has been flagged up as a starting point!! (no... not the bald one) Also FF, what you said about the Volvo etc is good, but the other way around.... ie put that axle under a 109, central diff, then means that other 'non LR engine and box combo's in rwd format could be used? Its the ladder chassis, the ally panels and visual look of the LR that appeals. Kind of a simpler version of the Aussie S1 above! ie not a full blown drag car.
  10. V8 is too obvious, also dont want permanant 4wd or the weight of the transfer box..... its pointless for this idea. Also dont really want to 'butcher' the coils..... was the first thought, but a leafer seems better, stiffer for starters, old escorts work well on leafs!!..... all those old ex military 109's!!
  11. already considered, too heavy, too pricey and a waste of perfectly good portals, and too low geared. To answer other points, articulation is not a 'requirement', i geuss on the 'how low'... couple of inches, after swapping onto 205 size tyres from 750's. swapping down to 205's from 750's will drop it 2 inches( roughly), then drop it on the leafs by another 2 inches. Idea is to keep it simple, hence avoiding anything with too complicated suspension, and anti roll bars etc. Al, too answer WHY..... i give you why not...... just fancy the idea of something totally 'opposite' to a mud monster!! Like the 109/ land rover shape and rwd....... create a bit of a road weapon that people would not expect!!
  12. Yes lots...... i knew someone would react that way!! yes, smaller wheel/ tyre combo.... well i dont want 750's let alone bigger.... prob 205 size or less.... needs to 'look' normal at first glance! ie.... no big blingy wheels etc Lowering blocks? As in mk1/ mk2 escort style? As for front..... it would be a tube idea like rogue trooper hinted at, no driven axle as this complicates things???
  13. Been inspired by rogue troopers build, with the road going 'v12 hybrid', however, i dont have the components or the desire to copy that build, but it has influenced some ideas. Dont get me wrong, i am impressed, and copying is supposed to be the highest form of flattery. I just dont fancy a V12 ........ or coils for this idea. Basically, how easy would it be to lower a 109? I am after a simple, safe, cheap(?) effective solution....... the offroading ability will be irrelevant. Would the handling improve, whats a 109 like relatively speaking anyway.... in handling terms? Also how heavy would a standard 109 softop be? I know that most of you wont get this, but .... sorry!!
  14. Had not thought about test riding hire bikes!! Only asked about the Land Rover ones as i found them by accident. Have no problem going for last years model, have seen some diamondback, dawes and claud butler ones in that category. I geuss at the price i am in, its pretty much the bottom of the market. As others have said, i am reluctant to buy a £500 bike incase it just lives in the shed in 6months too!!
  15. I am currently hunting around for a Mountain Bike..... its confusing to say the least!! I see that Land Rover make bicycles?? I can not justify spending vast sums on the bike, as its really just to get fit (those that know me stop laughing), take on the train and commute to work at the other end, i am in the fortunate position of being possibly able to train and cycle to work. It will also get used for hacking about the New Forest, and any other 'general' useage. Looking to spend as little as is practical, around £200 ish, have been advised not to get Full Suspension or any other 'gimicks' as they will be of low quality at this price, also been advised to get a 'hardtail', as its best suited to general use/ onroad commuting. Probably also like quick release front hub just to make it easier to throw in the car etc. Basically in the trawl through all the bike websites, i have spotted the Land Rover bikes, in my price range, are they any good? Or would i do better with another make? Have discounted Appollo from Halfords, as they have lots of 'toys' but are very cheap, several people have said theres better quality out there. Sort of O/T but i am hoping the mods dont object?
  16. Q plate does suggest that, it is already registered as a modded vehicle, all i would say is see what the V5 says. Mine, even though it was just VIC and changed V5 byDVLA, just states Land Rover Pickup..... no wheelbase reference or model, so potentially it could be modified further as it would still be a Land Rover.
  17. Feb 2006, less than 24hrs after buying it!! Taken Last Month, and its registered correctly with DVLA
  18. Knowing Dans luck, he probably has got bats, they have moved into Bertha as she has been untouched for soo long!! Hat, coat, bat proof cape...... gone!!
  19. May have changed, it was 1999, when i did a lotus 7 for sva, but IIRC it was 101db at a constant 300rpm at 1.5m from exhaust!! On the day that it was tested the sva mans rpm gauge( used for independant qualification, you know!!) played up, we gunned the 7 to redline and it still never exceeded the 101db level, made the sva man smile though! My 7 passed, all that has is a straight through 2" silencer straight off the manifold
  20. Maybe this is correct when you phone Swansea, however, i was told this with my hybrid, and DID NOT have to do SVA. All i can suggest is build a truck in anticipation of SVA, then take it to the local DVLA office for them to inspect it, and let the DVLA Inspector determine whether it needs SVA or not, i did this with mine, and they just altered the V5, to get the vehicle description correct.
  21. Having had a pm with Bishbosh, a while ago, it seems that i got a 'nice' DVLA man when my hybrid was inspected last year....... i did however expect it to be a PITA. I got the first option....... so have a few other trucks in shires that have been this way in the last year or so!
  22. Yeah, i probably will for the immediate, this thread came about due to abit of random surfing yesterday, and curiosity got the better of me. Equally it might help someone else who may be tempted by the idea of a P38 toy...... the next generation to replace the mk1 disco as a toy, as they all rot away! It could be a new trend...... Vapour Buying!!!!
  23. Yeah i know that, just seemed like a natural question i spose, after thinking about a double cab in the same style as Bertha used to be! The idea is appealing, it would obviously entail selling the hybrid, which i know well, soo i need to give it some thought before committing to a potential money pit/ headache i know nothing about, hence the questions.
  24. This has been interesting, it only started off in my head as a "what if", the concerns i have are comments about them 'liking to be used', which obviously would be a problem with a weekend hack, and the quantity of electric 'luxuries'. Equally, i guess its down to unfamiliarity, but the air susp and the traction control etc, would suggest expensive bills. Also with the age of them, they all need 'cats', so it flags up costs for damaged replacements. It has also been pointed out that rust wont be an issue, is this cos they are built better, ie rust proofed or they have not got to the point where they have shown rust signs? I geuss the other thing is diesel or V8, the prices seem similar. I have too say i did not expect as positive a response, and i am still a little unfamiliar with them, hence the caution and questions? As a random aside, has anyone double cabbed/ or traybacked one yet, i have seen the bob tails?
  25. I may have other pics in addition to those on the thread, ask, i may have them at home, its a year since i got it predominantly finished, so i cant remember!!
