  1. This must be a seriously influential bod, to be able to influence the local planning authority, especially as the site was there before NIMBY!! Some arrogant city bod no doubt, same sort that complain about cockerels and the smells of farmyards!!
  2. Is that one of your chat up lines!!! Hat, coat........... gone!!
  3. I am just wondering what thermal undies would look like on Petal............ i dont even care too consider Jez in them Jez, Dont get me wrong, i am not 'dissin' you or Petal, i was just responding to your 88" comment. However, its great to hear that , as you said, shes built for one thing.... surviving, and she seams to do that well. I think that is a requirement that is often overlooked when truck building, as its not obvious in a workshop, especially when you factor other 'needs' into the build.
  4. Firstly, well done Jez. Second, I assume that you do not subscibe to the 100" is best current argument for challenge trucks, and that the arguments about portals and landies in challenge type enviro's are not valid. Afterall Petal is a one trick swamp poney Its just a shame she's not coming back?
  5. Unfortunately, the mass populus have swallowed the marketing of all manufacturers and the world is of the opinion that consumerism is good, whether thats the purchase of a shiny new Prius, or the 'need' for the latest flat screen plasma TV. The governements have a vested interest in 'funding' global warming research, especially if its to prove a point! And i expect that most researchers, despite the science ethic of following the evidence, will be inclined to prove the theory that their paymaster prefers. Its a Governments delight, basically the whole population are captive, as summed up below!
  6. Just Bumping this up again to see if Jez knows any answers to the questions after his 'holiday' in Finland?
  7. Mmmmm......... Cool car......... But NOW we know why Will is behind on the 90!!!
  8. To be fair, apart from Richard attempting to have the first vertical takeoff Dlander, you were providing the most entertainment! Even though my truck did not make it out, due the damn brakes again, i had a great day too.
  9. Couple more from the day!! Flying Dlander Fridge looking not so tall! Jules, one for You
  10. Couple more! This occured before the stuck............ Sauna anyone?
  11. Well, we threatened Mr Fridge with the pics!! Fridge proving that Classically Restored Portal 109's do get stuck!! Jules is the man with the luxury RRC LSE, now known as the Portal Recovery Service!! Also pictured, rather concerned at the time, is Twizzle doing the rope throwing!! To be fair, Mr Fridge took it all in good humour!
  12. Hey, i am pleased to see that other people think like me!! Equally, i also saw the flaw in the suggestion when you hit the floor laughing!! I will not bring that up again!! Having had a discussion with sheeppimp on this before, and not wanting to hijack his thread, (ok peeps?) the idea revolves around the principle that a 90 with LR axles in full trim causes them to be chocolate, but for arguments sake, if the same LR axles were put under a SJ, jimny type for example, then would they be stronger, cos the sj is half the weight, and the LR axles are 'ok' in a normal 90, so by default they are 'stronger'?
  13. Had the spanner, but it did not fit due to the restricted space, so Ryan is still in need of the correct one to remove the viscous fan, so if anyone else can help?
  14. Well, my thought was that if they are made from the same 'chocolate' recipe as a standard LR axle, but then put on something smaller and lighter, then the proportional quality/ strength ought to be ok with less mass? Or am i barking mad thinking such things?
  15. Does nobody, well Jez probably, know the answers to these questions? I had a web hunt the other day, found GAZ but nowt on portals from them? I assume that for £500 ex factory, there must be a catch, otherwise everyone would be buying them?
  16. My rear axle has developed a leak it appears from the centre of the halfshaft, ie under the rubber cap, well thats where the oil is from, as in the centre of the pic attached, this is the one that leaks prior to leaking! Its a 1990 RRC ABS axle. What bits do i need and how easy to do, basically i have not done the job before? Basics i know, but its a first for me, advice appreciated. Thanks Paul.
  17. Might be wrong, sure someone will say, but i think its a 32 flavour, if it is, i think i have one that you could borrow, if that helps, save buying one?
  18. Hmm, i might have too up my game for the next one then!
  19. Discoryan, Who is the person with shires encampment in the lime green 90? It looks a brighter green than mine!!!
  20. When my kit lotus 7 was done, you can get it insured on the chassis number, bit of a problem there for the kit, it needed one from the DVLA, so, Adrian Flux ithink(was a while ago) agreed to insure the car on its engine number. To get a chassis number i had to get to DVLA, i think its still the same, because i had an appointment with letters, i was allowed to drive it to the DVLA. It had no reg, no tax, no chasiss ID on way down. Got inspected, got DVLA chassis number, which incorporated the engine number into it, got paperwork, drove home up the M27, much to the amazement of other motorists seeing a yellow Lotus with no reg plates. Then got VIN plate and 'chassis' stamped up, book SVA. Again, able to drive to SVA for test as its pre booked, failed twice, still able to drive it home. Once you have SVA pass, go to DVLA and get a V5 and tax. Easy!!
  21. Are they any good, ie if they were to be used under a 'smaller' vehicle, like a SJ for example? Jez, is that yank dollars? That would make them about 50p with the current exchange rate..... well £500?
  22. Are you wishing to confess something? No, i was just reading the thread with the mention of Mog axles etc, and just wondered if there was such a thing as a small light portal axle?
  23. Yes, that was my experience, but my truck ID was correct with the V5, and they did check the chassis number, engine number etc. It was 'just a body swap' as far as DVLA man was concerned!
  24. Turbocharger, if it started life as a 90 and has had lots of replacements, i doubt that the dvla etc will care, if it has a new engine, i would have thought that the best thing would be to notify them of that and just get the V5 updated!! It seems from reading the threads and looking at the website, that if 'one' mod at a time is done as a 'repair' and notified to the DVLA, then its not a registration/ identity issue!! They gave me the impression when i visited them, that they dislike cut n shut RRC's/ Discos and anything that is an iffy tax exempter..... ie a 1955 series 1 coiler 300tdi!! Geuss thats a money and revenue thing more than anything else......... i'll take my cynical hat off now!!
