  1. No problem Daan, no offence, and yeah some ideas will be just vapour. But i think that the phrasing of the question in the first instance can determine what responses are expressed. For example: What Mig do i get......... huge range of answers possible. I have £300, want a beginners Mig, and want new to get the reassurance of a warranty....... will get a totally different response. As Al has offered to do a 'guide' i think its a good idea, but it needs to be put into a context, cos the spectrum of answers can be enormous.
  2. Daan, I was the person who started the lightweight build thread, it may currently not have any significant substance, but i posted the question for opinions and hopefully a means of bouncing ideas about. I do have a project that will (hopefully) incorporate the ideas that got thrown about, but researching the idea by asking questions(that some may find pointless) is cheaper and easier for flushing out 'stupid' mistakes that i may make. Equally i accept that not all persons will agree or see the point of certain questions. Hey ho, thats life.
  3. I imagine that hardtops are spendy at the moment cos its coming up for winter and all the salon owners are getting worried about the cold!! Just bang a bulkhead in behind the seats, and rip the back seats out, they will then pay for the rest of the bits, no doubt, if it as cheap you suggest, then you wont care that its not standard. Or, why not copy the one Rich has on his Dlander?
  4. Yes, but then it would be surprising if most configurations had not been tried at your work place! I was thinking in the context of everyday useage, freebies are still considered 'new and normal' by most people, and still get used for the school run etc.
  5. Yeah, it was built to replace the KV6 in the MGZT, for emission purposes! Umm, turbo and that head gasket???
  6. Soo when you gonna post the piccies............ and when do you open the salon!! Hat, coat, ............... leg wax................ gone!!
  7. Gotta agree, i did an old shires punch day a few years ago, with the fancy dress added, for comic relief, with my ex in her boggo disco, we won a prize for spirit of the event, did awful on the punches, but did well on the fancy dress, it was a black tie event!!
  8. Again, great idea, also plan to have a dabble with the shires fun day challenge as above. but, the standard silhoutte thingy and bobtail bit, where would that put my hybrid, a mechanically standard 3.9 RRC with a 'defender esque' body on it, hell it even has the lardy rear end cos its been kept full length to be useful for me. Where is it fun and where is it a competition, a very fine line here i think. I am also a carp driver, but having a point to a fun day seems a good idea.
  9. Thank you for the offer, we may come back to you requiring bits, depending how things develop. At the moment, i have been 'exploring' ideas, in a 'simonr' outside of the envelope way. Just thinking it through as you do. Also twizzle has got to be happy with the ideas, as its his truck at the end of the day.
  10. Has anyone done it yet, or who will be the first?
  11. Just been a wondering? As i understand things, its the volume of an exhaust that determines its performance and flow rate as opposed to just its shape? ie: my thought, the current pipe at the turbo is (from memory) 57mm internal diameter, therefore to maintain the performance, it should not be smaller, (ie 45mm for instance). BUT Would there be a problem maintaining the 'volume' but creating a flatter shape, ie an oval that allows the exhaust to pass the restricted area. It would be the normal 'tube' at the turbo flange, change shape the return to round below the chassis? Again, may be flawed but just came to me whilst eating my ham sarny!
  12. The only logic for using the original casting was that with a inserted straight tube where the tape is shown, the cast pipe fits nicely due to its shape(by chance i geuss) and seemed to send the exhaust system down underneath. One other thing that has been brought up in the members truck thread, but thought it might get a bigger audience here? At the moment the g/box shown is a disco LT77, we have a defender LT77 to go on, just not fitted yet, it was suggested that when using the def box, the clutch master cylinder sits where the current starter motor is, they swap sides, and then there will be a heat issue, as its tight there?
  13. People may or may not be aware that i am helping twizzle with the install of a disco 200tdi into a 109. As is seen in the members thread, we have it sat in the engine bay with the turbo on and missing the chassis. BUT I have a concern, we have proposed inserting a straight pipe onto the back of the turbo at the exhaust end, to allow the 'normal' cast bend to be repositioned about 6/7 inches further down the exhaust to then allow the normal routing of the exhaust under the truck. Straight pipe where the tape is, then the normal bend. Is the 'normal' cast bend directly fixed to the turbo necessary to create back pressure etc to ensure the turbo works correctly? I know that too tight a bend here, 90degrees, restricts the gas flow, and prevents the tdi from performing. Equally will too little restriction, immediately after the turbo, cause an issue with normal operating. I may be thinking of a problem that does not exist, but it would be nice to consider the problems before making the solution?
  14. Sheeppimp here, using CF's as I'm still down in hampshire. Some of the other stuff cluttering up his car: Front & Rear 2 leaf rocky mountain parabolic springs, one disco rim, X-shaft, odds and ends Oh and venison burgers
  15. Well i pushed the boat out miles, I got a defender ashtray and two wheel nuts!!! Wahoooo!!! But came home with a complete car full!! Got a tdi rad and intercooler of miketomcat, and a lift up tailgat for twizzle!
  16. So are they the ones responsible for stealing all your trucks? Or perhaps you ought to bribe them to create your vapour builds!! Only getting the jibe in before fridge!!
  17. Thanx for that offer, but given the choice between a cute young lady and you Jules, hmmm What does the panel think?
  18. What benefit does it bring being from a cruise liner? Water resistant for all of Als vapour!!! Another big killer in the workshop is draughts, all at low level when your under a truck, putting a strip on the bottom of the door is good, or getting one of those old fashioned draught excluder snakes like everones nan used to have!
  19. Use the old bikers trick, and wear something under your jeans............. like tight fitting cyclists leggings.......... or ladies tights!!
  20. I thought you would move anywhere for a packet of Hobnobs! Hat coat .......... gone
  21. Unfortunately not.......... and i am currently single....... doh!! but i will easily be able to spot the 110 again due to a very distinctive wheel cover.
  22. Well, i experienced one of the joys of being a Land Rover owner today!! The Community, the people who help, especially the defender owners. I was on my way to my mates to get the brakes looked at (again, grrr) when my hybrid decided it did not want to play! Having got in the truck to move it from the farm where i store it, it promptly made it about 1/4 mile up the road and cut out and refused to run...... words were blue in its direction now! Phoned mate, he said he was not able to get too me as he was in the middle of a carb rebuild, but said, check this and that, give me half an hour or so. I look at all the wiring and think...... why did i keep all this when building the hybrid. Do basic checks, cant fathom out why its not playing. Then out of the blue, a green 110CSW pulls up, this is after witnessing a disco drive by and ignore me, even with hazards on etc. Expecting a local farmer, i was totally taken back to see a young lady get out and offer help!! Basically offers me a tow........... Great........ I am proud to say i have been rescued by a Girl! She kindly hooks up the muddy rope i have and tows me the 2 miles to my mate. All she asks for in return, is any details of local Landy clubs, as she has recently moved to the area.... i gladly pass on the details of Shires LRC, and off she goes, with the added bonus of a number of a local company to fix her alarm courtesy of my mate. Its great......... i have heard of others getting the Land Rover community help, but now i have experienced it!
  23. I have never claimed to be extreme............ well perhaps my paint is the only cause for concern!
  24. Surely this must be most peoples idea of utopia on a competition vehicle......... means you can just be the 'point and shoot monkey' and enjoy the event?
