  1. My hybrid has a pair of RS turbo/ Cossy style recaro's, basically they were free and available, and i like them! However, the rubber seat pad in both has now collapsed, so does anyone know of who or where and poss cost of getting them repaired, pref near to southampton? This is what they look like! Thanks Paul.
  2. Simon, If you are after a RRC, this one in the classifieds is still for sale, my boss has not bothered to do anything about selling it all summer, poss open to sensible offers? If this is inappropriate to post, then please say, its just outside Southampton. Just a thought, as my boss mentioned he still had it! RRC on Here
  3. Just a thought as the topic has come up, would the air tanks off a 7.5t lorry be suitable, i have acquired two from a ford cargo for free?
  4. The lump in question potentially comes attached to a whole donor RRC, hence the options to take box etc also!! As far a fuel saving, i know, its not doing huge miles, the tdi would just make it more useable. Will, as for the 2.8 Isuzu, did not know that, but the only reason for it being a LR tdi is the unexpected availability of it. So as the auto V8 box is a non starter, how straightforward is the tdi and manual box combo to drop into a space that had a 3.9 auto? Its obviously on a RRC chassis, but got defender bodywork!
  5. Umm, saw that, i have a 3.9 efi with ZF auto and BW transfer....... hence the question. I have the option already on a JE Engineering 200tdi with approx 50k miles, also can take the LT77 and transfer box as an option, its just a case of whats easier/ better?
  6. Having built my 100 RR hybrid with a 3.9 Auto, i have the chance of a low miles 200 tdi, do like the auto, so how easily can i put a tdi onto a V8 auto box, alternatively its a case of putting the tdi in with an LT77, and fitting clutch pedals etc? Whats the opinions?
  7. Is there a British Standard for air, or more likely now a European one? I am concerned as i have spanish manufactured tyres on a british land rover product? Are they compatible?
  8. As i said, i am really rather confused by this thread, can someone do a pop up picture explanation? Here's another conumdrum, Hot air, hot does that affect the performance in a tyre!! This is a topic i had never even considered, it appears to be very improtant! Its good to see we have some experts on this forum!
  9. Ooooooh......... i am really confused, can someone explain this tyre pressure/ air/ volume thing to me ? Also, as my air comes from a non defined source, will the co2 in my breath have an effect on the performance?
  10. Umm....... insurance companies, PITA!! Had a dispute with GAN many years ago about the payout on a MK2 Golf GTi........ they tried the same thing that you are experiencing with the request for the V5 and original documents. Basically, i referred them to thier own insurance document, word for word stating what the policy said. As soon as they realised that i had the full insurance policy and was prepared to quote it, i got a more reasonable response. Another thing that was contentious at the time was 'condition and mileage', they gave me lots of billy bull. They claimed to have been 'unable' to confirm the low miles, by saying the digital speedo was off, i pointed out that they needed a new vehicle assessor as my car had an analogue speedo, and he was incompetent. They backed off at this point....... equally when trying to agree value i obtained a copy of a current, and thats important, Autotrader with a near identical car with the same mileage, copied and posted it with the date highlighted, equally i only ever sent them copies of documents, in accordance with their stated policy claims procedure. Basically i did not send anything original untill i received written confirmation of a satisfactory settlement figure. Incidentally i got back what i paid for the car 11 months after buying it!
  11. Possibly a random suggestion, but depending on exactely what you want, try looking in a old campervan or caravan, they have carefully thoughtout storage solutions, but might not be tough enough, might be ok for ideas though?
  12. Fridge, with your scavenging skills, i am surprised you haven't been and found the bits that you need! Try the local tip/dump, its amazing what people chuck out, you may find some useful bits there. For a start if you want drawers, why not look for some old kitchen units, and scavenge the metal drawer runners, and then find the bits you need to make up a custom box. Using ply and shelf angle ought to get you in the right direction, for the unit you want, depends on how sturdy you want it to be, but that ought to be a start. What about looking for a scrap van with a storage system in it, must have something in your BT van!
  13. Did you not get a BT van stuck in a lane and require the assistance of several shires members a few years ago fridge? Sure i remember seeing something in the newsletter?
  14. Well, opinions and approaches to the whole registration and SVA thing is personal. I however, decided to go and get my truck down to the clipboard boys, that way, if anything happened, i have done everything within my ability to comply with the rules, they decided whether i needed SVA etc and i complied with the procedures. If the worst happens and i am still up the creek, well, what more can i do? All i can say is what i have experienced, they are worth a chat too, if you are so inclined. The best advise passed to me was via sheeppimp, who was told by a custom biker: "the more radical and more extreme the vehicle, the more legal it needs to be"
  15. HFH posted on this a few weeks ago, its grey!! The impression that i got( and this is only my experience with my truck) is that they dislike the 'cut n shut' 88" hybrids, thats the thing that the DVLA inspector was most concerned with. Equally he admitted that land rovers are 'unique' cos everything can be unbolted. The guy i had experience with, and the staff at the Portsmouth DVLA centre were very helpful, other places, i cant comment, i got the impression that they were pleased i had come to them voluntarily.
  16. The biggest headache for SVA is the element that relates to cars - ie 4 seats or more or something that is a 2 seat sportscar - aka Lotus 7 Replica's and Cobra's etc. Having been through that one for a Lotus 7 Replica, several years ago, its tough if you do not know what to expect. I know, i had 2 retests. However, having read the regulations, and spoken to others on here and in clubs, if you build a commercial landy (pickup seems safest) then that is relatively easy, especially if you are sensible, and build things with the rules in mind. Regarding the 'battle trim' statement, i will always refer back to the DOT inspector who commented that 'Any car with any aftermarket accessory( think bad boy saxo bodykits) will fall foul of the SVA or in main manufacturers case type approval'. Basically in the same way that any car is only able too pass the MOT on the day its tested, the rest of the year it could have failed headlights etc!! Then you enter construction and use regs which are enforced by the Police and DOT officials. Whole new debate that has been 'discussed' before elsewhere. Also before going for SVA on a vehicle that may or may not need it, the local DVLA office request to inspect the vehicle so that they determine whether SVA is needed. However if you know that the chassis, engine, gearbox, axles etc (as the points system on DVLA site) are all from different sources, and declare that, then you go straight to SVA. Think that this is what landrover598 and a few others have done. I believe that on the original question about the 110 chassis, that you can present the 110 at the DVLA and they will issue a chassis number, in the same manner that they do for Kitcars, but it will be an SVA again, as it comes under the Radically altered vehicles heading, or a car built from multiple sourced components. Technically, i think that Fridges 109 falls foul on the regs, as it has multiple sourced components, and does not meet the VIC check on component points, unless fridge can advise otherwise that the DVLA have inspected the 109 and said that complies? One other point, it did not cost me anything to take my hybrid to the DVLA, be inspected and have a new amended V5 and new MOT issued by them.
  17. Ummm......... minefield!!! Technically yes!! However, i know of two other trucks on here, both from shires that have 'slimmer' rears that got through the same as me, one is the white Dlander, they commented but decided to re-register it, so i have been told. Mine technically had a bob, it lost about 4 inches off the back due to a suspect rear crossmember, but it is not noticeable, as 'i have the tank in the same place still'. However, if you do have to do SVA, put the truck through as a pickup, then you can do a commercial SVA, which i understand is 'easier'...... no doubt others may comment, i think that Les Brock did this with his. Basically you need to read the regs, and build with them in mind, whichever way you go.
  18. Probably leave the bulkhead as the last item to remove, its the biggest and heaviest, and arguably the item that the rest fixes to as a reference point. Well thats what i did when i stripped the donor 90 for my hybrid anyway.
  19. I think, technically, you will need an SVA, unless you can prove where the chassis came from and get the original ID. You may be better off throwing the disco body away and building up a 100" defender. If you see my thread in the members vehicles section - Another shires 100" kingcab, i have effectively done this with a RRC. This has also been to the DVLA and been re-registered, without them refering me for SVA. Reason they took this approach was, original uncut chassis, orig axles, orig eng and gbox, basically an RRC with a new body shell. They accepted that it was a body swap, and were pleased to see that the body panels had been modded to fit the chassis, and not the chassis 'cut n shut' to fit a SWB landy for arguments sake. I also believe that the RRC/ disco rear axle is not suitable under a 110, even if its trayback etc, cos as far as the DVLA esque types are concerned, its a 110 and has to have the correct componenets as already highlighted, for the load carrying duties. Even if you dont ever use it as a 110, it needs the right bits, so i have been told. How do i know? I thought about using my RRC and its disc axle under a 110, and was told ...NO! Hope that helps, or not as the case my be.
  20. Out of interest what is the cost of LANTRA?
  21. Worryingly, jules looks quite at home in front of that ute!!
  22. Absolute genius, not laughed soo much in ages. It sounds like there is more to this tail than first apears!!
  23. The Insa Turbo Sahara is also the same pattern, about £45 in 205 size.
  24. Slightly off the wall, maybe, what about keeping the chassis etc of the existing, and doing a 'body' swap, in the same manner that RRC's are used to build 'hybrids' here? Could then potentially swap a more svelte monocoque bodyshell onto the existing chassis? For example, on another lr forum, someone has nearly finished putting a Ford Ka onto a 4x4(poss RRC), that looks surprisingly 'right'.
  25. If you dont like it or want to read it, whats the problem, cancel the subscription and use the change for a few extra litres of petrol and go play! Fine the mags might be getting lazy, well the best way to voice opinions has got too be to tell them, how else are they going to know, as far as they are concerned the silent masses keep buying it soo it must be ok, they aint pyschic!! Personally i couldn't give a monkeys fiddlers elbow, they are all on par, but sometimes i see something i like and buy it, if not, it stays on the shelf.
