  1. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm Since Tonks AA saga, I've been onto the AA. 10 years as a member, and yep I got the "Accidents are not covered" .....period. However their definition of an accident is open to interpretation, so I've been looking at options. Basically I wnat to get home when I have a problem, not a F Arguement with the recovery compnay, RAC seem equally useless, and I am ready Green flags policy info at the mo, and have fired some Q to them. However, this looks interesting : http://www.britanniarescue.com/products/co...ail.php?c=4&d=5 Covers "Accidentrs" too, so you don't need to see if it is or is not. Whats everyone elses views of the various recovery cos, pros cons, and info ? Nige
  2. Anyone got either 1 or a 'pair' of the 90 inner galv wings going cheap (if not free B) ) ? If so ....and you have , hampshire, surrey, sussex please PM me .........will collect Nige
  3. Oh deep joy, Whilst under the LR making the front suspension mods, I noticed that the odd smell of stale fuel was in fact coming from the joint running front to rear along the seam of the petrol tank.... Oh deep joy Seems a new tank is now the order of the day (so chuffed that I filled it up the other day So, looking it seems that the tank gaurd is part of the tank ???? Question to all is do I spalsh out and buy an genuine or are any of the pattern makes any good, if so who / which ? Nige
  4. Les, Of CORSE thats FINE with me, Unless No-ones Funny, or Unless No-ones Clever, true whit is worth nothing.. By Some Fluke, you have Met (the) Trick of taping into the humour and not letting the thread die Good time for this, always make me smile : Coat rack empty............. Nige

  9. On a front EFI Ranage Rover Axle, There are 2 bolts that hold the circular spring reatining plate to the axle casing on each side... Anyone know what size and thread these are, so I can run the right tap down each as they are a bit (lot) manky ?? Nige
  10. Speak to the guru of all things ECU Mark Adams Phamhouse marketing, numbers in LRO, PM if you can't find him. GHe will fix ECU and knows more about them than most other people will forget Nige
  11. Hiya Jon, To answer your (and others posts) here goes Why do option 1, 2, THEN 3? Not exactly what I'm up to, they are all just tjoughts with no particular order except 1 as I have won a HEI off e-bay USA and am going to have a look. Reasons for this are Know they are massive in the spark dept Waterprrof virtually Simple very well bulit and easy to get bit for / reliable Could do what I wnat at little money, but maybe loads of lathe work Option 2 , maybe a 2005 version of the above, is it as good as I am lead to belive, and its a nuts bolts and eassy fit ? 3...well reasonably easy and mid price oprion, but unsure as to how good. Then theres MS, fair bit of work, but possiblity So, looking for options and KNOWN knowlesdge as to options etc, and fridge and MS is well known !....its on the lust fridge what more can I say , make you a happy man MS Eales a FF 1st ? 02GF74, the spark is as good as you'll get from this system, it is a poor system, and don't forget the spark is not running a 3.5, but a 4.5 V8, 1000 cc bigger, more compression and fuelling and basically it has all new genuine parts, .........and Mr Eales himself has told me himselg that the spark was always poor on this system he built........... I have just won the HEI so Option 1 will get a look in, but it may or may not be the answer, go to have a look at my idea for a few quid.... so, anyone have knowledge on DUI system ? Nige
  12. "Dead" right Tonk, hence why this has to be sorted !......either that or small trailer with WD40 in tow Can you exlain more of the MS Dizzy route ?....what is needed, how does it work, how made / connected parts usded ?, probs and things that need to be worked at etc ? ? FRIDGE WHERE ARE YOU B) ??? your miassing a MS Opportunity here ? Anyone know about these DUI dizzys posted above ???? Nige
  13. 1. Well done you beat FF to it, only thought is MS is EFI ECU etc, thats all ok I just have Dizzy spark water probs ? 2. Tell more ...............what did he do ? 3. Yes ok, I know but Wash you mouth out..... and come over here [smack] .....now go away 4. Now you being just plain silly 5 & 6 not needed : Nige
  14. Hi Diff, Nice to place a name to a face.....sorry I was a bit busy ! As you say no water, it was like the sites plug hole had been pulled out, I have been there when it was wet and its a nightmare, porridge 1200 acres of it is the only way I can describe it... But, with no water the sand was power sapping, and also in some palces hard, I dragged 8 broken 4x4s out during the day Vitara - Blown front diff RR front and rear diff (tried harder after bang from rear - then bang from friont then me tow truck ) Series 111 - mainshaft 90 200 tdi- split rad Dahatsu something went bang Suzuki SJ boiled over big time and finally Jand rover BOTH CV blown JW limped home bit hacked off as blew something in gearbox, but he was at warp 9 trying a near vertcial climb with some others me included ! Think this is where you were when you caught up wuith us ? JW crested the hill 2nd time or 3rd Belive me when I say this was seriously steep, photos do tend to make flat that which in real life (as this) people go FFS you are not serious are you ? I made a pigs breakfast of it, too much BHP and too aggressive tyres, did get up in the end, but as Mark noticed I got just a bit fed up and was flat out in 2nd and then changed up to 3rd half way up the hill, sand and pikies everywhere ! All in all a good day out, well attended and many said at the end a great days driving for £20 See you around Nige
  15. Hello peeps Right we all know Rover V8s do NOT like water, ....as I found out AGAIN today winch recoverying a mates tractor that feel into a stream (long story) (As was getting the V8 running again after it got wet - no engine - no big 'thing' front hydraulic PTO winch to get tractor out - HOT NEWS FLASH TIP :WD40 shares will leap over next couple of days - (90 V8 and tractor back in respective homes tho, even tho took a while ) So...................... I have over the years tried a number of the 'normal tricks', and Jon W (here on the forum) has done these ..............and a shed load more, but............... his V8 is hopeless in water, ...........mine is often equally just as poor.............. if not worse in water and also poor at starting when hot, ...............the spark is frankly Cr^p This I have checked out with the 'Guru of V8s' Mr Eales, whos engine I have - the 4.5 flapper system I have he said was poor when he built these ...........but at the time it was what LR had as.................................... "HAHAHAHA Cutting edge technology". This system is the electrionic dizzy and the amp behind the coil system, hopeless. This coupled with poor starting and weak spark has got me going.................... I have come up with a couple of options....and I AM trying option 1 and maybe then if not ok another route ...........I will have a V8 thats runs without stopping ...........when someone 480 yards away opens a bottle of water to have a drink on a hot day FFS Option 1. I 'aint letting on much ...... but have just bought a 2nd hand Buick HEI unit from ebay USA maybe I can sort this out, ........... those who have some idea what I'm on about will know what I'm thinking, ........... it might , or it might not work, ................. but for a few bucks I'll see. I fitted one of these 2 a chevy racer years ago it WOULD run under water, ....its if I can get it to fit If not then : Option 2. V8 new Dizzy - DUI, came across this ................ Anyone have views or know about it : http://www.performancedistributors.com/gmssdui.htm and a piccy here to : Option 3. 3. Aldon Unit and flamethrower coil, manecor leads etc Option(s) 4. Other options I should think about ? NON option 5. and no not a chip fat burning oilier thankyou - much as tho they are the business water wise they are not my forte..... shame actauuly, ................ make a 200 TDI sound like a tuned V8 and I'll have one sad yes I know I am ! So...............Discuss ...........and post thoughts please ! Nige
  16. Love the signature, and the metal work, funny all this happened whilst "the Boss" was away or is it just sheer coincidence ?? Nige
  17. Yes Unless you have had Kate Moss as a passenger recently ? Nige
  18. Oi ! Don't be so chuffed, you,ve forgotten a shocker Nige Yes I know, only kidding.....................
  19. Tony, I have as you know seen your 90, ...........and know it will articulate as per the photos. Springs and spring poundages are a F nightmare. It is (as all things 4x4 are) a compromise................ What you have I belive gives you some lift, ...........when you lift a 4x4 the COG goes up, ...........and can make springs that are firm seem like jelly, its all to do with levaerage.....so for lift poundage has to be considered Some people fit longer springs for lift and then find it handles oddly, yours is a "Classic" set up, .....and one that for the money is hard to beat,........ it can have knock on effects with things such as COG and caster, but you've fixed these, .............many don't do it .........and have a 4x4 that frankly is missing the suspension mods 'finishing touches'. You also have a 90 that can carry loads, and with the lift it will articulate, ....but will do it when pushed, .....as oppossed to at the drop of a hat. Suspension mods have given me a headache trying to work out what I am after, ......far sillier thinking time than the route you have gone ...........but it is a different route,. If you look at the supermods around now and the american rock crawlers etc the springing is often so soft and long travel as to be almost undrivable on the road, .............the idea being that a obstacle is met with the axle moving immedaitely , and the body staying put and level, the problem here is that go a tad too fast and the thing just bottoms out on everything. What I am trying to get to is a compromise somewhere in the middle, ....soft soft springs, .....and long so they don't disclocate so much (The ones I started with at the movement in the pics woyld have been 3 inches from the cones, these were still touching, so the ground dtill has pressure from the downwarsd foerces of axles and springs etc......but now 'spring bind' has reared its head !, and I have plkans for an extra 2 " droop and rise, just need to make some top mounts and rethink springs again , ......and this is just the rear ! I start V soon on the planned front suspension mods .......... 3 link would be best for articulation ..............but again I use it on the road and 300 bhp and 3 link ?, so compromise (and loads of thought and research ) is the order of the day, and will this be plan A B or C D E etc before I get what I'm after..... Hopefully when I get there the axles will move at low speed with huge movement (A Frame ball joint locking is now coming up as a problem), but I will have to do this at low speed, and as you may have twigged this so far is now on the rear only ....and at plan C, .....plans A & B for the front already consigned to the bin. For what I am after I think your set up would cause me 1 BIG problem - it wouldn't fit in my garage !, ............... ........... but in all seriousness TCs set up is a sound easy simple well tested and quality route and will save a fortune on research and asprin, I am just trying to get the a similar end in a differnt way if I do indded get there, who is to say whos got it right and why ? Better ?, .............no different .............Yes, it all depends what your after.........and if you can indded get it ! Nige
  20. Is he famous ? No, stick to EP90 Nige
  21. No probs, it maybe just getting the air out of its system, So, where do you wnat the invoice sent to then Nige
  22. And theres nothing wrong with that. It will give a stable truck, the bump stops will not be visted every moment you gop too fast, you can load god knows what in the back and have a great "Carry" truck, but, it won't do this : 1st test of some rear suspension mods, well chuffed and more to come yet, I am aiming for a 90 that I can heavily cross ruts and the spring will give and the bodt stay level(ish)... However, I will not have a 90 that I can shove weight in the back, and the bump stops will definately not be lonely So far quite please, front is next and some softer springs for the rear Nige
  23. Adam said. What is the engine config, and type of expansion tank, 300 tdis for exanple have a constant bleed into the header that can make bubbles, nothing wrong its doing it job. What are the symptoms and problems Nige [just corrected your duff spelling]
  24. Steve, Right can of worms you have openedbhere. There are a few things to consider (other than there free and there looking at you ) 90's basically are classed by LR as an Agricultrural 4x4. They are expected by farmers to be able to carry silly amounts of weight without any issue, and theres where the fun starts. I am right in the middle of working out my own spring problem, and yours and others won't be a million miles away from the same issues. 1. You can EITHER have axle articulation OR carrying capacity, not both. 2. The 90 has 175/178 front 225 rear, and NO load leveller. 3. Range rovers have 170 ish rears, but they have a load leveller. The leveller (when it hasn't siezed on ) pumps up under load to gibve the same ride hieght as unladen, the 90 doesn't have this, it just has HUGE spring in the back to compensate. So, either you go for comfort and articulation, OR carry loads capacuity. thats why you have 225 in the back. Fronts, you onmly have 175/78, and frankly the weight of the MM is minimal, what eklse have you done ot added to the 90 to need a 55 lbs increase in springing ? if the 90 has dropped a bit from weight maybe put a longer or slightly harder spring in ie NRC 9447 blue yellow 175 @ 14.80 inches red white 170 17.71 green yellow 170 16.2 green yellow blue 178 18.18 pink purple 180 16.47 etc etc I would advise that you use LR90 Trev exellent spring calc, but for this you do need to weight your 90 so you know what the front and rear axle weights are, this will then compare the weight and spring length poundage and tell you how much higher your front will be than now, and also it will work out the rerars on the front. Personally, I think unless you have a load of extra weight on the 90, OR unless you wnat to carry loads of weight about 225 on the front could be too much and make for a hard ride. Probably not a definateive answer I know, but 1st we need to kinow what you are looking for, load capacity or ride comfort / articulation, that then will help guide. Nige
