  1. Many thanks for the advice, when i eventually have that clear out will ebay it!
  2. Hi, quick question! I have a scrap 90 that I'm using as a source of spares for my 110, well the front half anyway! Will the rear axle fit a 110, I know it's not as strong but as it's there should I keep it? Thanks Richard
  3. Just what I was looking for! Many thanks!
  4. I use the pto on my 90 quite often, so the engine is running but doing o mph! Is there any way of converting the milage based service shedule to an engine hours one, other than driving a set distance and multiplying the time it took? The 90 has an engine hours meter in already... Thanks Richard
  5. The cooling system on TDi engines are pressurised, TD engines aren't! As you have a Defender I assume it's a 200 or 300TDi so all is well!
  6. In a word yes! I also have an ex leveller 110 csw. Changing to std springs resulted in a harsh ride, but this was down to worn out shock absorbers, since replaced and resulting in a (fairly) comfortable ride!
  7. Thanks Naks! Thats about 36f 39r?
  8. Hi, quick question (I hope!) on tyre pressures. My 110 has BF Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A 265/75's. Last owner had them at 35psi all round, but I've adjusted them to 28 front 48 rear as per handbook - am I right? Thanks Richard
  9. Thanks, hadn't thought of the manifold! It would also explain the sort of wheezey sucking noise it made prior to the ticking and a loudish Psst it made last week.
  10. The 200 TDi in my 110 has developed a ticking/rattle at mid to full throttle when under load. At first I suspected the valve clearances, so adjusted them but this hasn't helped. It has always seemed low on power and loses a little oil from the head gasket. There is no oil in the coolant or vice versa. It gives a puff of black smoke on start up otherwise the exhaust is pretty clear (little haze of black smoke when driving but sailed through the emissions test) I'm wondering if I've broken a piston ring, any suggestions? What should I expect to pay for a compression/leak down test at a garage? Thanks in advance. Richard
  11. The axle has the bracket for the self leveller, but the units long gone, now running on standard 110 springs
  12. My V5 shows 3500kg, the vin 3050kg and as it's a 110 csw it should be 2950kg! Local garage issued a class 4 MoT no problem
  13. New shock absorbers sorted out the ride, the 110 did have an 11 month mot when I baught it but it seems the O/S shock didn't have any in it oil at all.....
  14. Hi all! I'm trying to correct the revenue weight on my 110 CSW's V5. DVLA had no problem amending the engine no or body type, but now need a photo of the vin plate showing the no and weights. Problem is, as you know that the vin is stamped and the weights are printed. To make things worse the vin plate has a little overspray from previous owners handywork. With my limited photo skills I can show one or the other in the picture. I phoned DVLA who require 'evidence' to change the weight, even though it's a 1989 so won't affect the road tax. They said send two photos, one showing the vin, the other the weight. Anticipating their next problem I said that was pointless as they could come from different vehicles. In any case you can buy vin plates stamped or printed with whatever you want on them! So, DVLA will now accept doccumentary evidence from the manufacturer or owners club as to the revenue wight of a CSW, can anyone point me in the right direction, or should I just buy a new vin plate? Thanks in advance. Richard
  15. Thanks, will standard springs without the load leveller be ok?
  16. Hi, yes this is my 9th! and it realy does seem very uncomfortable compared to the others!
  17. Hi, I have a 110 sw with a load leveling rear axle, but no load leveler. The ride when 'empty' is extreamly harsh, when going over a bump in the road it's like being kicked from behind. Having looked at the rear springs the only paint I can see is red/red. Fully loaded the 110 is quite well behaved, any ideas? thanks Richard
  18. Replaced the centre silencer on my 200tdi 110 with a straight through pipe - absolutely no difference to noise level! Rear resonator about to rust off, will see if that makes any differece...
  19. From the DVLA website The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has issued an alert listing serial numbers of vehicle registration documents that have been stolen and may be in use by car criminals. According to the DVLA, the documents could be being used by criminals to accompany stolen vehicles that have had their identity changed to match that of a legitimate vehicle - a practice known as "cloning". The stolen certificates have a different background colour on the Notification of Permanent Export (V5C/4) tear off slip on the second page, which looks mauve on the front and pink on the reverse. On legitimate documents they should be mauve on both sides. The DVLA warned people not to purchase a vehicle, but to report the matter to the police if the serial number of the registration document fell within the following ranges - BG9167501 to BG9190500, BG9190501 to BG9214000, BG8407501 to BG8431000 and BG9282001 to BG9305000. Nick Lindsay, director of independent vehicle information specialist HPI, said: "The theft of these documents is alarming and will undoubtedly add to the growing number of stolen vehicles that are being cloned. The cloned vehicles are sold on to unsuspecting members of the public who suffer significant financial losses when their vehicles are confiscated by the police." and http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_west/7509408.stm the poor guy had been saving to buy a land rover.....BBC recon upto 80,000 stolen v5's.
  20. No need for slyness, stick on numbers from any car shop! I think the problem I have is with stolen V5's and a corresponding serial no on a replacement VIN plate. Just seems to be makng it easy for the criminal types!
  21. I'm probably being too picky and it's all fine, just seems odd that you can buy a replacement VIN plate stamped with whatever you want, especially as chassis's can be replaced with a new unstamped one! You have to provide a V5 to get a replacement number plate made, but not it would seem the VIN which we all check (don't we?) when buying a new vehicle....
  22. I have no doubt that the suppliers are entirely reputable, but considering the 1000's of blank V5's stolen from DVLA we don't have to worry about buying a ringer then?
  23. On the subject of dodgy, these are perfectly ok then? http://www.landroverchassisplates.co.uk/page4.htm
