  2. what about a complete novice that has got all the kit ? i.e 35" simex and a trayback + all the winches but the owner has only done pay n play days ? what about co-driver experiance ?

  5. give us a bell when you no something twiggy in the mean time i best get some work done
  6. i'd be well up for the 2 day event twiggy, you fancy it ?? or will your v8 only last a day competing ?? dan
  7. how would you go about getting the correct castor angle on the front axle when fitting a different axle, in my case toyota ? now it has 3-link on it currently but i cant say im the biggest fan of the setup( sorry rich ) while it might of been ok for its previous owners, im not happy with most things about it to the point as i wouldnt even attempt to try it with the way i drive i keep reading about all the trouble the 3 link can cause and breaking, so ive decided it proberly best just to fit the land rover hockey sticks that have never given me a single problem. I cant say front flex has ever bothered me, when it runs out the locker then goes in so as above, how would you go about getting the axle into the right position to weld on some land rover mounts for the normal hockey sticks ? cheers dan
  8. i half expected a extremely sensable answer i used to have a man fitted to it, but it wasnt really suited for the td5 and challenges, so i changed to auto and now love every thing about the autos's.
  9. i havent actually done anything to my td5 apart from relocated the ecu and made my own throttle thats now as windscreen hight. ive been through, and got stuck in water that see's my ass wet no problems, im more concerned about my compushift than i am with the engine. the xy switch's seem to suffer, anyone come up with a solution to that ? dan
  10. i know of a td5 that is running without electrics. im sorry i cannaot say anymore, but all i can say is that he is showing devon 4x4 it when its been properly destructed. so keep looking as it will be out in the air in a few months time dan
  11. that shouldnt be a issue with your carefull skillful driving style
  12. kin hell, am i reading right paul is venturing out again have you got any pictures together from the previous event matt ?, there was alot of snapping going on........and not just a-frames dan
  13. i was going to suggest the brake as jim said above. could be a stuck brush in the motor aswel
  14. i dont think it was you trying to tame the beast into going into the water, you were trying to talk yourself into it. however your best attempts failed and the whole of tong heard you squeeling like a pig to tom, get me out of here. tom has told me that he is infact going to be visiting the doctors due to hearing trouble and a few moons ago i remember a conversation we had where you were infact thinking of fitting a diesel in because of all the water problems or did you just ring me in your sleep again see you soon, best of luck pal
  15. at least us diesel owners aint pulling heads off after see'ing abit of water
  16. ive already looked into the special build route, but getting hold of a normal mach 5 rim is hard enough at the mo. besides buying rims that fit would just be boring
  17. out of interest, what grade material should i use for the final rear hubs simon ? i'll more than likely make a prototype out of ally simply because of ease of turning. dan
  18. ive look'd at the availible options, ive always loved the look of the rockathons, so as a last resort i will just buy them. I'm only doing this as i love my mach 5 rims and really dont want to get rid of them, ive spent hours on the net looking for conversions ect ect but all drew a blank or came up with spacers/adapters. this gave me the inspiration/determination not to be defeted and come up with a solution. the easiest away around it all in my eyes was turing new hubs on the back and adapting land rover hubs on the front alot of this will be trial and error on the front end ( the back will be fine) until i come up with a strong reliable solution. As it gets trailed everywhere breakages doesnt really matter, as i can only learn from my errors and improve accordingly. ill get pictures up as and when for you guys and ask for feedback. maybe a mod could move this into the relative area ? sadly, i wont be making much progress this week as i was swept into hospital last night by the police due to my mum being taken ill, and put onto the intensive care ward ill keep you upto date on my progress as and when dan
  19. just incase it might interest you, after alot of head scratching and cups of tea ive started on converting the axles to land rover stud pattern tonights progress has seen me trial fitting a land rover front hub to the toyota stub axle, after a hell of alot of turning in the lathe and milling here and there success just got to sort the brake side of it out then make a boss up for the drive member and thats the front sorted then for the back im starting from scratch with a huge block of metal to make my own hubs i foresee alot of late nights coming my way
  20. chris, i only had a quick look earlier as i was too busy giggling about your snorkel but at a quick glance there were a few glazed pots pull the pistions out and have a closer look at the rings if i have a spare 5 ill come accross and have a look with you btw, didnt anyone ever teach you to be clean and tidy when you pull engines apart mud and lifters dont make very good friends cheers for the hub btw.....i now owe you another one as ive turned this one out and it now fits my toyota axle lovely dan
  21. ill get my entry off to eric as soon as i get 5mins matt, ill be competing for sure, just is i aint got 5 mins to scratch my ass with at the mo, with fitting these toyota axles dan
