  1. thats what i'm on about! thanks very much and a happy christmas!
  2. i remember seeing on a challenge truck some strip brush material that extended the arches out to clear the tyres, being a bristle it wouldn't get damaged when rubbing up a tree etc, thing is i can't seem to remember or be able to find where you can get it from, its kinda like the brush draught excluders you put on the bottom of doors but the bristles are about 6" long. anyone care to point me in the righty direction?
  3. whilst athe annagh hill challange over here this weekend i made the schoolboy error of letting the rope bunch up on one side of the drum on our bow2 powered ep9.... it dutifully broke the two stay bars off the casing and cracked the gearbox end plate, whilst dismantling it we noticed it had also taken the bearing housing (most of it) on the motor end is there anyone out there making upgraded , replacement end plates? something with more meat around the staybars and maybe physically bigger to accom more rope? this one http://www.firstfour.co.uk/item/2103914/superwinch-epi9-ep9-drum-support--motor-end and the corresponding one for the other end
  4. wife put 20l of petrol into an empty p38 diesel, it did all sorts of wierd things like stalling and not revving etc etc, i drained the tank and put a new fuel filter and 40l of diesel in it left it ticking over for 20 mins then thrashed it out the road, lots of smoke of varying colours. it ran better than it ever had before!
  5. i'm heading to the workshop on sat with a bucket of tea and a catering pack of jaffa cakes.... i'm going to have an hour or two with a rolling chassis i have and see what my options are regarding front susp layout.
  6. we did discuss the ball under the axle like the above, can't remember why we dismissed it tho? so if they are rock crawling with this then it must be awful strong to withstand the bangs and scrapes off the rocks, not sure that's the way i'd go. head melted looking at stuff this evening
  7. phew no tiddle taking!!! soo it could be done ....... the points covered above became glaringly obvious when i went and looked at the front of the trayback... gonna have a mooch around pirate this evening as well, might get some more daft ideas thanks for the pointers.
  8. ok then i hope you're sitting comfortably.... my head has been melted with 1,2,3 and x-link front ends, i've had a bit of a brain wave/fart. basically we've been toying with using a rear a-frame on the front axle and using radius arms instead of hockey sticks. (this is on a 100" disco chassis, pure off roader with rads re-located, full hydro steering etc etc. now my limited understanding is you would normaly mount the two a-frames like this <> my thinking is mount the front one with the ball on the top of the axle like normal but.... you mount the other end to the chassis where the front crossmember is , now we'll have to remove the front crossmember, but as theres no rad or steering box there thats not a problem, we could also lose the panhard rod and front steering bar as we will be using the steering ram behind the axle. now is this a stoopid idea born from too much reading and not understanding what i'm reading or am i onto something? let the tiddle taking begin!!!!!!
  9. we have a std ep9 winch on the front of our trayback and we are actively looking for more grunt for it, this inevitably leads us to david bowyer as much as i like the bowmotor2 upgrade i'm baulking at the €300 cost inc shipping to us. this brings me to my question.....there are alternator and electrical motor rewind/refurb over here is it possible for them rebuild/rewind a std ep9 motor to give us more grunt and possibly even over-volt it?(which we would do if we bought a bow2) i figure it could cost less to do this than purchasing a new bow2 is what i'm thunking even possible??
  10. on the 1.8 petrol there are two temp sensors one for the guage and one for the ecu. i need to change the one for the ecu as i'm having cold start problems and misfiring when running. which one is the ecu one? ta!!
  11. you must have been reading my mind the last few weeks.... me and my driver were talking about croatia next year and we were wondering why and weather there would be anything closer to home that we could do as a warm up to see if we were up for it. keep me posted! landyman@eircom.net
  12. having an eire registration is not what its cracked up to be, my 2.5l diesel range rover costs me just under €1000 per year to tax for starters! the only problem i can see is that the authorities over here talk to yours.......dual would be a problem however if you want an irish one send me a pm with all your details and erm a small fee and you can register it here at my address in my name of course!!!!!
  13. well its gotta be better than the ****e thats already on it!! what are your thoughts on improving it then?
  14. hmmm thats got me thinking...... reason i asked is because the new build is a t***** cough, and the rear suspension arragnment is carp! what i was thinking was if i replace the rear trailing arms with landrover type but with a johnny joint axle end and rubber bush the chassis end and then a similar A frame type arrangement it would give us similar travel to a landrover...
  15. lads i'm looking at a custom 3/4 link set up on our new build and was wondering about the difference between rose and johnny joints, how do you size them? grp4 fabrications show up to 5/8" rose for rally cars but devon show 2.5" johnny joints! is it the pin size or outside dia? anyone using them instead of bushes at the axle end, as i figure that you could get some more flex that end?
  16. i'm on my first one, i bought it last month for €100!!! got it thru the irish mot and on the road for for under €400 and i'm more than happy with it, parts are readily avail and cheap because of all the petrols with head problems, even new the bits arent that bad! my missus likes it coz its surprisingly nippy for a diesel(compared to an auto diesel p38) i like it coz itll do 80mph and it has a heater and radio that works! cant comment on the whole vcu thing as mine is on the garage floor..... it does drive very well in 2wd tho! i dont regret it at all and will probably look at a later td4 when its time to move the p38
  17. just gone to order a timing belt kit from my parts man and he asked me do i need a 112 or 114 tooth one its a 1998 L series diesel. do i need to do the water pump as well or just belt and tensioners?? thanks!
  18. turns out she put 15L of unleaded into it yesterday when the orange light came on..........all sorted now
  19. right then after talking to swmbo it turns out that the brother in law got it started with jump leads(prior to me going out and posting the opening post) but when she put it into D it wouldnt drive she floored it and it shuddered and cut out and wont start again. typical feckin woman not telling me everything that happened
  20. right then the boss was driving the rangey today when she pulled up at her sisters it stalled and now wont restart. its a 2000my auto diesel, its stalled on me twice in the last month which is starting to worry me... anyhoo i went out and tried to start it this evening i'm getting no messages on the dash at all, it will crank all day long but not fire. i disconnected the fuel line into the filter and turned ignition on but no fuel came out till i cranked it. i removed relay 12 and shorted? across the terminals and hey presto pump in tank runs and puts out diesel BUT even when i put the pipe back to the filter with the pump running constantly it still wont fire, if i put the relay in and listen i cant hear the pump at all, its only audible with the terminals crossed. got me stumped now any ideas lads have to get my daughter 300kms on monday for an MRI scan
  21. how the hell are you getting four for free?? read the specs and it says water cooled? and requires an inverter! carp it was hard enough for me to wire in in cab winch controls let alone one of these bad boys!!!!
  22. first off i'm gonna get the grease out like simon said if that gets me 30% then im happy then i'm gonna look and try to decide wether to go with bow1 or bow2..... thanks for all the replies and help
