  1. I use this system from Fredlin. One person & 2 minutes to fit the roofrack and tent.
  2. Making the dash is the easy part. It's all the bloody wiring that takes the time in install. We made this one for my 130 in a weekend using cardboard as a template and the 2mm checker plate was cut to size and then painted. The only tools needed were a jigsaw, drill and hole cutters.
  3. As an improvement to your existing set up you could always add a couple of JATE rings to attach a safety bridle. I have a shortened drop plate with a Dixon Bate PinBall Wizard. A tank guard is nice to have if funds allow for one.
  4. No idea mate....but I heard of an Australian outfit that made a fatter profile door and tail gate seal for use in extremely dusty environments. I wish I knew who and where I could get hold of a set of them.
  5. Thanks Guys.....quite right Mike, I need new ones. Mine are squashed flat and let in too much dust. I have found some genuine Land Rover ones and will have them delivered to my sisters place in the UK. I can pick them up next week when I fly home for Newark. I was surprised that the price of the drivers side and passengers side seal is nearly double! WTF is that all about then?
  6. But people will still keep buying from him no matter what the forums say. I saw the bit on the Discovery Channel where Scorpian prepaired the BMW support car for the 'Race to Dakar'. What a shambles! Then within months of that airing we still see the usual 'Cheque Book' off roaders in nearly every magazine spouting their brand new 90's with every concievable Scorpian part on it. I've never met the bloke but have a genuine dislike for him. I hope he doesn't team with TBR and take them down with him again....they are nice people.
  7. I was in New York again last week.....isn't it funny that out of all the great things to see & do in this fantastic city we still find ourselves looking for Land Rovers. I noiced plenty of Discoveries ( 1,2's & 3's), Range Rover Sports and New shapes...and only a single Defender 90. I saw a solitary series III in Middleton the week before. The two Americans in the car with me couldn't quite understand why I was getting all excitted at this old Land Rover coming the other way down the free way! (motorway to us folk!) I tried to explain but it went way over their heads.
  8. Anyone seen them advertised? It's a 300 Series 3 door Discovery. I also want a new seal for the rear door. I've scoured my magazines but can't see anyone doing them Thx.
  9. I sent him a mail last week and tried calling that mobile yesterday (go's to voice mail). No luck in contacting him yet though Should he come back on line anytime soon...please notify us via this thread.
  10. Could it be to open the filler cap flap?
  11. Thanks guys..... Mike..I've put a thread on ORRP...maybe we have a camper in our group who can pick them up. Cheers. S.
  12. What about the Land Rover Experiance courses.....do they do driver training?
  13. Ah ha...found it. The company is Gwyn Lewis...email has been sent regarding show attandance. Question. What is the length of a standard Discovery shock compressed and then extended? I've been given a set of Reiger shocks that I want to fit but first need to know about the standard lengths of Discovery shocks. My ride is already lifted 2" with Dobinson/HT springs and Dobinson Shockers. Do Reiger make different lengh renmote cannister shocks for Land Rovers? Mine came off of a Defender so I think they will fit without any problems. just to get them vavled correctly and set set the stiffness via the dials. Any other comments welcome. Thx. S.
  14. I know this was posted before but it was an O/T subject and I can't remember what the original post was about. Who makes those special brackets that enable me to fit twin post shocks to the rear of my Discovery. Second question. Will they be at Newark this year?...I'm not going to Billing. Thx.
  15. Mine are in a Discovery but the wiring loom doesn't take up much space so you should be able to put them almost anywhere. I was able to use the slide out ashtray compartmen to mount mine.
  16. Is the off road course the only reason you go to Land Rover shows then Chunky?
  17. The Sonim XP3 Quest is yet to be officially launched... but the U.S will be the first to get it. I just flew into Dubai from New York this morning and was looking for it there with no joy . I have the regular SONIM XP3 and have to agree with most of the comments on here. As a phone it works really well...but the yuppy brigade won't like it. My only gripe so far is that some of the buttons get stuck in after dipping it in lager to amuse the ladies and being a Land Rover phone it sometimes leaves an oil stain if you don't pick it up & move it around every now and again. Battery power is great, texting is frustrating though, speaker volume is brilliant, Blue tooth works fine with my Alpine BT unit and Motorola headset, I love it because it's so easy to clean after getting back from the desert or the beach. If you are looking for this phone then do wait for the Quest XP3. It has GPS & compass on top of the usual Milspec 17 features.
  18. For the front of a Discovery I would use 2 of these Pulling Points every time. They utterlise more mounting points than the single bolt jates (thus making a stronger/safer pulling point) and are easier to use then the jates that are fitted underneath the chassis. You don't have to modify the front air dam or bumper when you fit these...but I would remover the bumper anyway before it gets ripped off. S
  19. We were using VHF sets in Saudi with mag mounts on the roof...range of transmitting was quite poor. JW drilled a hole in his roof and secured the antenna properly. The difference in transmitting and receiving was much better than mine. Most casual users seem to get away with a mag mount or gutter mounted antenna...I could never drill a hole in my Discovery roof!
  20. I also tried the same method Andy and although it does help a little bit...it also reduces the ammount of light coming from the reflector. This is the only pic I can find with my round light peaks. I hope it shows up clearly on this rather small photo?
  21. You can make some upside down peaks which help eliminate alot of the light coming in. I made these for my rectangular lights and have since done the same for the round HIDs that I now have on the disco. It's only thin aluminium sheet. Make templates from cardboard first then screw them on with self tappers.
  22. He doesn't get on any of the regular forums much these days. I tried hooking up with him back in october when I was in New York but he seems ultra busy with work these days.
  23. Thanks Steve. I've printed them out and will take them with me on Saturday. I also found a really good write up on the d90 site which shows more details when using the marking Blue compound. Hi John...about time you stuck yer nose in here mate! I hear exactly what you are saying and it's for this reason that I'm going to the workshop to over see the work myself. I simply don't trust anyone to do the job properly and even more important to carry out the checks like those shown on Steves site. Before I had the lockers fitted the first time I asked a number of garages how they measure the back lash in the R&P's.....one of them said "we do it by eye".... understandably I walked out quick sharp.
  24. Those ones seem to be the most popular by people in the know. They cost a bit more but I think they are worth it.
