  5. Id say Nige isn't far from the mark. A mate recently bought a clean 1999 DSE for just under £5000. It's a bit of a limited market and unlike the classic there not being bought by as many LR 4x4 fans. I guess all the horor stories on the forums have not done them any favors. The other issues is the ECUs and gizzmos and nighnmare when they start to fail and seconhand spares prices are still quite high compared to classic spares. That said if it clean and tidy with hstory to support the 80,000 miles it will still sell. If your not in a hurry to get shot of it try it in autotrader at £4500 ish you never know you might be lucky
  6. HI Steve Yes, I'm just about to volenteer as COC for the RTV with Gary as Cheif Marshall. You help setting out on the Saturday would be much appreciated. Cheers Fitz P.S. best of luck at the winch challenge.
  7. Hi Ed hows it going in Dublin. Yes I'm sure it's a open to all drive round on the Suday as well as an RTV. The drive round is £25 entry to non members and as usual it starts at 10.00. Hopefully Ian will get some details on the web site before long. Cheers Fitz p.s have a pint of the the black stuff for me.
  8. HBLRO have got a Public Driving Day at Broxhead Common near Bordon, Hampshire on Sunday 2nd December. This site is army land and is a good size with plenty of variety. There will be easy, moderate and difficult areas so you can choose a level to suit you and your vehicles abilities. This event is open to non club members. All vehicles must comply with the Road Traffic Act, have an MOT, be roadworthy and have a servicable towing or recovery point, front and rear. All vehicle occupants must be seated and wear an approved seat beat at all times. The passengers sitting in the front seats must be at least 14 years of age. Passengers who occupy the rear seats of the vehicle must not be less than 2 years of age, and if under 4 years, must be seated in an CE approved "child Seat." Stay to the marked routes-follow arrows and do not cross tapes. Some routes are marked to show level of difficulty. If in doubt choose easy or moderate. Alternatively park up and view or ask for guidance from a marshal before attempting to drive. If parking, please pull off the track to allow others to pass. Please see www.hbro.co.uk for more details. Happy Driving Fitz
  9. Hi All! Sorry for the delay in getting information out to you regarding the Challenge Event at Chichester on 25th November, but we wanted to make sure everything was together before we put it on the forum. On the HBLRO website (www.hbro.co.uk) there is now a dedicated Winch Events page. On this page you will find some general information about up and coming events, an information pack and an entry form to the next scheduled event. Hopefully this will ensure that in future you can have all the info in one place that is easily accessible. We are already fully booked for the November event, so please check that your name appears on the entry list before sending off your payment and entry form. We look forward to seeing you at one of HBLRO’s events in the near future. Keep an eye on the site also for the latest news on the Mike Wolfe Challenge, which is now being organised for the early part of next year. Sam Parker, HBLRO Competition Secretary

  11. From memory the struts look standard. The standard top tailgates are a fair weight I can't see the one piece alloy one weighing much more. If yours is the 'rare' alloy type and it's in good nick it could fetch a very good price on eblag or the RRR. You may be better off selling it and replacing it with conventinal tailgates which are more practical. It would be a shame to damage the one piece off road if it's in good nick.
  12. I had a 1981 four door Rangie with a rare one piece alloy tailgate. This part of a reply I got from James Taylor about the tailgate. I know of only one company that produced these, which was ASG (Alan Smith Garages). They were known as Donington tailgates, I think, and were formidably expensive because they were made of aluminium alloy to save weight.
  13. Change the collant tempreture sensor first, thet are often subject to failure. They cost about £10 and take a few minutes to change. Once it''s changed youve eliminated that as a possible cause. See attached file and this may help...... The Coolant Temperature sensor This sensor is located at the front of the inlet manifold in the coolant gallery. It can be mistaken for the Thermotime switch but this one is less bulkier. It gives a signal to the ECU for engine temperature so that the ECU can inject more or less fuel depending on engine temperature. It does not affect the cold start injector! The Thermo-Time switch The thermo time switch controls the operation of the cold start injector. It is basically a pair of contact points, one of which is mounted on a bi-metal strip. A heater coil is fitted around the strip. The system works when the ignition switch is in the "crank" position. Whenever the bi-metal is cold the points are closed and the injector is operated. During the time the contacts are closed the current is heating up the strip. After max.12 secs (depending on ambient temperature) the bi-metal opens the points and injection stops. When the engine is already hot the bi-metal strip prevents the injector to operate during cranking. Notice that the extra air valve uses the same basic principle of a heated bi-metal strip. The cold start injector This injector is located in the top of the plenum chamber. As its name indicates it injects additional fuel when the engine is cold and the engine is being cranked. The cold start injector injects continuously and not intermittently like the other injectors. The injector gets its signal directly from the Thermo Time Switch and is not switched or controlled by the ECU. EFI_Info.pdf
  14. IMHO I would say that not standard. It would be like the utility company getting LR supplied from the factory with locking diffs. I don't think any LR had LSD as standard. It's all a question of fairness would you be happy to know that it was a LSD that gave you a win over someone in the same vehicle without LSD. Not cricket old chap:)
  15. The relevant regs are:- B.16. TRACTION CONTROL. B.16.1. The use of traction control and hill descent systems will be limited to standard vehicles where fitted as original equipment B.17. AXLE DIFFERENTIALS. B.17.1. Lockable axle differentials may be fitted on condition they are disabled in an unlocked state to the satisfaction of the scrutineers and not used during competition. You can read all the various regs here.... http://www.hbro.co.uk/alrc_srs.htm#sectionb
  16. Graham it will be good to see you there. You don't need to pre-register just turn up before 9.30am and join on the day (£25) and pay your RTV entry fee(£15). HBRO only allow Land Rovers i.e. Defenders, Series LR, Range Rovers, Discos, LWTs etc. For RTV the car must be road legal taxed and MOT'd. Tyres no larger than 33" dia, no open tread patterns/dumper tyres (Simex Ext/JT, MT's, Grizzlys etc all OK). Secure recovery points front and rear. Extra spring on throttle, if carbed. If you have diff lockers these must be disabled/secured off.
  17. It's always a bit awkward to please everyone when there a RTV and DRD on the same site. The RTV will bag some of the more challenging areas but that will still leave plenty for the DRD. The other thing will will do is pull the canes on the RTV sections once they have been driven to open up the whole site for the DRD. As I'm sure you know HBRO do take safety more seriously than some other clubs and sometimes that does lead to areas being out of bounds. As it's a members only drive round day you should get more freedom to roam and the idea will be to use limited tape only where necessary. Whilst Slab is a bigger site I've always preferred Broxhead which has more variety. For those like Nige / Jon who live on the door step and like it challenging it can get a bit boring driving the same local sites but Broxhead is still bigger than a lot of sites and offers a lot to those who are new to the area.
  18. Anyway just to make the exhaust fit I reckon I need to ditch the back box from this join back and I'll just replace it with a straight tube - assuming the join is after the rise. Ditch the back box and fit a 90 deg elbow to bring it out of the side wing. This is the only phot of mine i could find that showed the postion.
  19. The email I sent you bounced I've attached the file to this post 1993rrelect_START.pdf
  20. I would suspect fusible link P119 According to the wiring diagram (I've emailed you a copy) this link is between the battery and the ignition switch I've never looked for the fusible links and they are not shown in the electrical compont location diagrams I have but a web seach found this...... The first place to look is the right-hand side of the engine compartment behind the battery. That's where you'll find a bundle of fusible links wrapped up in the wiring harness. A fusible link is simply an insulated wire calibrated to burn and break a circuit when amperage flow becomes excessive. Note this is from a yank site so links may be the other side of the engine bay. Hope this helps Fitz
  21. Spot on Nige it's my only mate is Garry I hope we can count on you to help set out Sat and can I pressgang you to scrutineeer Sun? JJ hope to see you and your dad there on the Sunday:)
  22. Have to admit that I've done that same. Jump no go expect the worst, panicked checked and then found it was not in park....Doh. ...but at least it an easy fix
  23. I'm affraid that you have to be a full member to drive for insurance reasons.
  24. HBRO Land Rover RTV & Drive Round Day, Broxhead, Bordon, Hants. Sunday 3rd December need to be a member of HBRO (you can join on the day) Me and my mate are COC and Cheif Marshall for the RTV. It would be good to see a few new faces from the forum. Drive round will start at 10am RTV scrutineering 8.30 - 9.30 More details here... http://www.hbro.co.uk/index.shtml
  25. Nige I had some diesel injectors cleaned in the past. The place I had them done was at Aldershot behind the car sales pitch on the right of the A325 about 1/4 mile before the Aldershot rounabout. It was a few years back and I can't rember their name. I think at the time there was also a similar place that was a Bosch specialist for fuel injection on the Slyfild Green Ind est. I had a look but can't find either on the internet I did stumble across this while looking..... http://www.injectorcleaning.co.uk/post.htm
