  1. Sun 14th Feb - Drive Round Day - Slab Common Hants Everyone welcome at the HLBRO Drive Round Day at Slab Common Bordon Hampshire Valentines Day 14th Feb gates open 9am for 10am Start http://www.hbro.co.uk/calender.htm#time http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=115671236746201906545.000452b553de468f1f683&ll=51.118229,-0.883144&spn=0.010573,0.03298&z=16
  2. This is a reply to a letter to VOSA re. testing Land Rover / Range Rover handbrakes. This was sent as some testers are misinterpreting the latest test requirements and are driving at 20mph and applying the transmission brake wrecking the transmission. The gist of the VOSA response is whilst the foot brake should be tested by driving with a decelerometer but the hand brake is safer tested on the rolling road at 4mph. Thank you for your query regarding 4x4 parking brake testing which has been passed to me for a response. When a vehicle with more than one axle permanently engaged is presented for test then the tester should test the brake performance by carrying out a road test using a decelerometer (3.7B of the Light Vehicle inspection manual). The nominated tester assesses the service brake for grab, judder, severe pull on the steering wheel or if the vehicle swerves appreciably. The decelerometer will record a reading when the vehicle is brought to rest from a speed of 20mph (32kph). This test is carried out under conditions which are probably no different than may be required of the vehicle in normal use and should not have any adverse affect on the vehicle. In the case of a transmission parking brake the inspection manual gives specific advise in the information column of this section. However there is further, dedicated, information in section 3.7A page 24 of the inspection manual, on how to test a transmission parking brake using a roller brake tester. Though the wheels are in motion they are only rotating at a speed of approx 4 mph and nominated testers are advised to release the brake as soon as the minimum efficiency requirement is reached when progressively applying the brake . The parking brake must be tested and these methods have been used for many years. I am not aware of recorded incedents of damage being caused to these types of brakes when using these methods. I hope this information is of use to you. However if you have knowledge of recorded incidents where damage has been caused then obviously VOSA would be pleased to hear about them in order to decide if any remedial action is required. I would be grateful if you could send full details of all recorded incidents to our Vehicle Specific Information Engineer Martyn Pegg (Martyn.pegg@vosa.gsi.gov.uk) who will fully investigate the reason for these sudden occurrences. 3. there was a post about this on one of the LR forums and if I remember it had an official answer from the VOSA. Worth doing a few forum searches or someone on here will have the link I'm sure.
  4. Nice to see such a good entry. Shame there's not any standard 'ALRC' entries. Has no one got a standard LR with a winch??
  5. Entrance to Slab Common is off the Oakhanger Road. Just South of the marker on this map link. Enjoy the sand http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=bordon+oakhanger+road&sll=51.119782,-0.882361&sspn=0.009967,0.015643&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Oakhanger+Rd,+Bordon,+Hampshire+GU35,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.120118,-0.866203&spn=0.15947,0.250282&z=12
  6. Intresting site with hills and forest for playing and large open flat grass areas for camping. It's about 2 miles down the road from Rigwood whichhas loads accomodation. I can recommend the Star Inn I stayed there last weekend for the RTV at Somerley. Details of the winch Challenge here. http://www.hbro.co.uk/winch%20challenge/winch.htm Should be a good day:)
  7. Ignition amplifier? Unless it was on the dizzy you tried.
  8. Wow that's a lot of parts youve changed. How about the ignition amp,,, there's two types one on the dizzy and one under the coil.
  9. Glad to hear there on OK,,, just test a bit at full articulation before you take it off road. Better that than bugger up your nice new tyres
  10. On full articulation the tyres foul both front and rear. To stop this you will need extended bump stops and will need to trim about 12mm off the front wing wheel arch radius. You will probably also need to flare out the inner rear wing (behind the rear door) and trim off the internal lower front corner of the rear wing. Fit them and teast carefully at full articualation and sterring lock. You can temp tie wrap some bits of timber/ply to the axle bump stop points. Start at 25mm thick , increase the depth until they stop fouling. That will give you the size of extended bump stops you need.
  11. They are different and not a straight swop.
  12. Buy a seconhand one and fit it yourself. It took me about an hour this first time I fitted one to a Rangie and I'd never fitted a screen before. It an easy DIY job. You should be able to get a secondhand one for £30. Good luck
  13. try ecar insurance they do multi car up to 4 cars. http://www.ecarinsurance.co.uk/upto4drivers.php
  14. most common fault are the swich contacts. You can take the switches apart and clean the contacts. If you try it do it over a white cloth so you can find any small part that drop out as you open the switch. I done it several time and it's always cured the problem.
  15. Are you sure it's not the handbrake. The handbrake shoes can seize to the drum and will lock all four wheels. I never leave mine with the handbrake on for long periods to help prevent this from happening. If it's the handbrake you can usaually just drive it free.
  16. I have a good 4 speed auto box PM for details Edited to remove advert - DEANO3528
  17. Dan I'll put the videos on a disk with a load of photo's and give it to Nick Jennings to pass on. I should be at HBLRO RTV at Nelly's 14th Dec so if Nick's about i'll pass it on then. Failing that I guess I can post it
  18. Hi all,,,hope you all had fun I've just posted a few vids on youtube,,,seach 'HLBRO MIKE WOLFE 2008' on you tube. Includes a 10 part vid of Dans green tray back and him and John dressed as Playmobile men or it will do if I can ever get them to load up F%&^*))
  19. Thanks for the replies. Yes I have checked all the pistons and it has new'ish braided hoses all round. Sounds like a later servo with pedal box my be the way forward.
  20. Hi I recently puchased a B-Reg 90 that is retro fitted with a 3.9 V8. I'm not happy with the brakes. It has a rangie disk braked rear axle standard 90 front. I've renewed the pads and replaced the fluid. I think the servo and or the master cylinder may be past their best. 1. What other options are there other than the standard replacement. 2. What later model servo and master cylinders fit? 3. I can get a 300 tdi Defender 90 brake servo/master cylinder unit will that fit? Any advice welcome. Thanks Fitz
  21. Mike Wolfe Memorial Challenge at Slab Common, 30th November 2008 Details here http://www.hbro.co.uk/winch%20challenge/winch.htm
  22. Yes it's the input shaft the one the UJ connects to from the steering column. I would not normally bother and would fit another box but the one thtats on it has no play so I thought it may be worth trying if it could be done without removing the box. Looking at the manual there a ciclip which should be easy to get off then a couple of sels the only thing is how to remove the seals without removing box or the input shaft. I awas wondering about just running the pump with the circlip removed??
  23. The input shaft on my steering box is leaking fluid. Is it possible to remove and replace the PAS box input shaft seal without removing the steering box or input shaft? This is on a Classic Range Rover without aircon or any other obstructions to the steering box. It a standard ladrover 4 bolt box so the same as Defender or Disco.
  24. I'm no expert on this but I don't think the BMW diesel likes veg oil. Pumps seals?
