  1. http://www.animatedknots.com/index.php?Log...imatedknots.com Sorry but I think this site is much better, twas pasted on here a while ago Bill
  2. Piece of p*ss, wanna quote, we used to do burnished copper all silver soldered, not Uxbridge but close, the house on the bridge at Eton, very nice, very expensive and if someone pees you off straight of the balcony into the thames.
  3. Anyone help.pretty sure this just something stupid, air suspension, sometimes it just won't pump up and the low indicator keeps flashing, compressor working OK, air bladders OK, I think its something to do with the park load thingies as it seems to be worse after I've had the tailgate open for a while, I'll have a nose through my RAVE CDs , but anyone out there got any ideas. Cheers Bill
  4. unless you start putting cctv on every bridge over a motorway. You mean there isn't already, just about the only place in the country that hasn't.
  5. If you look at the drawing it shows either what I would guess is either an M10 or M12 bolt straight through the chassis, now a M12 bolt from the top of my head is about six tonne in double shear which is what it is, times at least two. Its the guys decision and I knew you have big hills in Canada but most pulls are either straight ahead or off to the side in a general horizontal plain, plus looking at the picture if its mounted sideways he'll have a longer weld again in the horizontal plain, plus with a bow shackle any vertical load would be taken by the shackle design thats why the best recovery points are rotating shackles cos they'll find there own angle. But thats just my own twopence worth and the guys in wales so perhaps hes coming out of the valleys boyo.
  6. Yep thats a good idea, you tend to pull more sideways than up and down and the plate is also good, I stuck a post up here a while ago about some brilliant lifting eyes we've just got for work, RUD-Lifting points, these rotate and pivot, but they are expensive.
  7. Andy, my chance to actually speak about sometthing I know about, the picture shows a bow shackle, its designed to take its load through a 90 degree angle through its centreline, a normal or straight shackle isn't, there rated at a straight pull, so that shackle is rated at 4.75 tonne pull through 45 degrees either side , don't know about the bumper though, could tend to rip the material thats why I'd spread the load. Bill
  8. There you go 4.75 tonne is the safe load so in my mind you've a good shackle, eight inches of good weld is plenty, but as I said in my edit you've got to think about the material of the bumper, if your happy if not spread the load with a plate. Good luck Bill
  9. You've got a bow shackle there, somewhere on it will be a safe lifting load, plus if your going to weld it, a good, i.e. coded weld is rated at one tonne per inch of weld, thats a 6mm radius weld, so you can do the sums and ask yourself how good your weld will be. Thats the best I can give you, people usual bolt if they are doubtful about there welding, industrially lifting eyes are always welded to the item to be lifted. Plus you have to ask yourself if the material of the bumper is strong enough, if it was me I'd weld that lug to a thick plate and weld the plate to the bumper, ie spreading the load. Bill
  10. Spot on, cheers I'll order it tomorrow. Bill
  11. Looks like I've finally cooked the solenoids, so its time to fit Allbrights I suppose, South coast area, any suggestions, looked on the tech archives and got a phone number, said something about £70, is that each or for the kit, any other ideas anybody. Cheers Bill Note to Brighty, I know you gave me a couple, but there somewhere in that black hole of a garage of mine.
  12. Hi, old single phase motor was about 1780 rpm, winch motor according to Goodwinch is about 2400rpm, 4.6HP, rating of the pump is about 120 bar, only problem as I see is the flow rate which I'll measure before I go too far and yes I agree Tony its heavy which is why I,m scaling down the reservoir on the power pack, second battery is ganna be in there anyway even if I ran a leccy winch and as I've drowned two winches at Slindon now I'm thinking it is better to have a heavy one that works as opposed to light and dead, and anyway did you see the monster on the Goodwinch stand at Sodbury, now that is heavy.
  13. Dah, sorry, whats complex, hydraulics, no, lot more reliable than electicity, especially in goo, pump, one moving part and all remote in the snug and warm, simple three port control and a battery, ok might throw in a solenoid to start the pump, but no electrical reversing, no electrical controls.
  14. Ah well might as well come clean and be ready for the p*ss take, the idea is that I've got an industrial power pack hydraulic unit, used to be run by a single phase motor, am replacing that with the 12volt winch motor that I got at Sodbury, altering the tank to keep weight down and running the motor from a dedicated second battery, one need to see the flow rate from the unit when its finished and two want to see how long the battery will last at a basically unloaded condition, if that all pans out well I will fit the hydraulic winch, the plus side would be that hydaulic winchs are much better under water(and Slindon crud) and two that even if the engine dies there would be enough reserve to get out of the goo. Right ready for the comments, good bad idea, I'll still go ahead and build the unit anyway, just to see how it performs. Bill
  15. Hi, anyone shed any light on the specs of the Warn 12 Industrial hydraulic winch that i've obtained through eblag, its rated at 5500kg, but anything like gearbox ratios, flow rates etc would be helpful, ,its also got a divided spool almost like it was designed for twin cables, any ideas. Cheers Bill Tis a bit of a monster, but think I can get it to fit, goodbye 2 inch lift.
  16. Exactly what I was thinking, if you want to attach it to a tube, suggest you use a female type Rawlbolt, depending on the size you use for what tube they are incredibly strong, I've seen them split tube before they give.
  17. Very strange, now I've no time nor interest in getting into a slanging match, Experience, one V8 Disco for quite a few years now, totally used and abused, one clutch, and with the miles and off roading its done thats nothing, currantly running 33" reversed rims and all the other bits, yep its had a few problems but some people say a vehicles unreliable if the cigarette lighter doesn't always work( mine does sometimes) rangy V8, the infamous 4.6, again no major problems to talk about, but I did make sure mine had a new engine and bits before i bought it. Its the usual thing buyer beware in my opinion. And anyway what would you all do at weekends anyway, watch football, play golf, blahhhhhhhh Thats my six penny worth Bill
  18. Yep, second that, wanted a better V8 note so removed the rear silencer completely, no bl**dy difference, its still too quiet, back to the drawing board.
  19. Cheers for the info, better than the yellow pages. Cheers Bill
  20. Just reading up geoff's air bag piece from the tech archive, anyone got a telephone number or address for UK importers of AirBagMan bladders, no luck on the internet. Cheers bill
