  1. As you were so kind so to take the mick about the Flemming Arms, and as you were so kind as to offer to help with my Rangie suspension, would you like a selection of rachet straps brought over to the Flemming Arms this Thursday, on loan as I'm going to Sodbury and you seem semi trustworthy. Bill
  2. Well, what did you expect, I owe a Landrover, thank you, see you where. Bill
  3. Tougue in cheek, been looking for the shire club meet, last I saw was at the Flemming Arms at Swaythling on the first Thursday, does this still hold as its Easter, cheers Bill
  4. OK I know I'm a numpty, the Rangey was running rough on LPG, symptoms of fuel starvation so I cleaned the inline matrixes and decided to clean the filter in the main solenoid valve, no problem, bleed off the gas undo the bolt that retains the valve and------- dropped the bl***y thing, can I find it, two days I've searched, mirrors you name it, anyway anyone out there know a localish supplier where I can go cap in hand for either a new fitting or at the worst a new solenoid valve, I'm in Hampshire and the valve has VALTEK printed on it. I tried Valtek on the internet, but the company didn't seem to know what I was talking about so I'm looking at LPG type people. Cheers for any help Bill
  5. Hi Mark, I'm running 255x85x16 BFG's MT's on my Disco, I've fitted them on reversed Disco rims so I need flares, but personally I wouldn't like to run anything wider unless I was going for a serious lift system, perhaps body lift as well, plus steering lock I would think could be a big problem, one of the reasons I went for reversed rims, anyway if you've got em just stick them on and try them out, I'd be interested in your comments, but personally I'm not going to go bigger than what I've got fitted now. Cheers Bill
  6. If you want the original colour, under the bonnet on the plate is a number, if you go to your local paint distributor with that number they should be able to supply you, my local shop mixes it and gives you anything from an aerosol up. Good luck, I admit I'm carp at paintwork, hence my love of chequer plate.
  7. Hi, wessex Hillrunners, slindon, blueish disco, 255x85 BFG, external rollcage, Pompey dockyard, must try to get out more if the nurses will let me.
  8. Strange that, we buy plates in, we cant even do a weld prep, we get another company to do that for us, but we do manage to build to build destroyers, aircraft carriers and other big things.
  9. Got a Southdown top off the stand last year at Sodbury, talked nicely to the man, 20 quid.
  10. Hi, thats exactly what I did, 300 V8 Disco, cant exactly remember if I split it at a union or I cut the pipe and used a commpression fitting, but with a bit of careful measuring and a trip to my local hydraulic company got two flexy hydraulic pipes made to length and just lifted the existing cooler, cost about 80 quid for the pipes, been on a couple of years now and no problems.
  11. Yes, don't bother, bought one that was very similar, just gave it away, the only thing that was any good was the light bit and the compressor, a torch is cheaper and the compressor was well slow, as for jump starting a Landy, your having a laugh. Thats my two penneth worth. Bill
  12. Cheers would appreciate that, even a name will do, Emsworth is local enough that I'll go searching. Bill
  13. Exactly, metered the coil, thats OK, no short, checked the brush assemble, thats not shorting, so methinks it must be in the armature, there endeth my knowledge, time for the pros.
  14. Anyone out there who can recommend a repair, rewind company in the Hampshire,Sussex area for a winch motor. New motor bought at Sodbury which worked fine and then for some reason now only turns slowly and I think is pulling a lot of amps, it stalled the engine when I hit the in out switch, I know the contactors etc are all OK as it runs the winch with no problems but when I connect it to the new motor, yuck. Think it needs to go to the professionals so any recommendations. Cheers bill
  15. Fluke if you want a really good one, but not cheap, or Machinemart sell a quite reasonable one, about twenty quid if my memory serves me right.
  16. Having read the thread on pegged diffs, I was impressed and as the rear diff has to come out this Christmas thought OK thats on the to do list, so was chatting to a mate as you do and he come back with this from a well respected off roader and competitor. He doesn't peg his diffs, just machines a groove in the half shaft near the hub end to give a natural shear point, therefore before any damage is done in the diff the half shaft will shear and at a relatively easy point to change, now thats also struck me as a damned good idea, obviousely how much to machine out is important, but a much easier route to go than moding diffs etc. Any thoughts. Bill
  17. Hi, have been running a 96 Disco for a few years now, LPG conversion, now use it for off roading, road vehicle is a 4.6 Rangey, also LPG, first thing, insurance, you'll need a certificate for the installation, that means it has to be done by an authorised dealer or be inspected by one. second if you can get the multi point injector system, my Disco has the earlier single point system and the Rangey the new multi point system which is sooooo much better, I put twenty quid in the petrol tank about every three weeks and thats on lots of short trips, the new system changes over just so much quicker. The Rangey i bought from the company that installs LPG systems and I have to say its brilliant, I got chatting to the director, very high brow but a really nice guy, from what I could make out they changed the mapping of the ECU and various other things and I have to say its bl**dy quick and very economical(for 4'6 of V8), if you want it I can dig out his address and number, but it is up in the midlands, If your serious I can let you have a nose about either of mine, your not a million miles away. Last thing, no Eurostar for you, banned with gas for some reason. Cheers Bill
  18. No sorry if I gave that impression, no intention of reversing the motor, I know hydraulic pumps run only one way, no I'll use the solenoid to start and stop the motor, save it running all the time, oil bypass and heat build up etc, also save battery life. As Simon said(excuse the pun) I have a manual lever system but am thinking of operating it away from the vehicle, a few options, even thought about radio control but that got very silly, having talked to chaps at work it looks like I need a five port four way switchable double solenoid valve, but I'll go and talk to Hyprose later, first i want to see if it works, which it should, but how fast it is as well, if its too fast no problem, I can just throttle the output after the valve block but somehow I don't think I should need that, also want to see how long a battery(heavy duty dedicated) will run a winch motor on what should be low load. Thanks guys for all your imput, if it works I'll let you know, if not various bits will be up on the classified forum. Cheers Bill
  19. Right I'm ready for the flack, older version of the superwinch H12, 6500 kg hydraulic winch, thanks to eblag, hydraulic pump unit thanks to a nice employer from the feed to a large industrial milling machine, it used to be run by a single phase motor, but now sits in a about 15 litre reservoir with a goodwinch 12 volt motor coupled to it , the old motor was about 2240 rpm and the new winjch motor is either 2800 or 4000 rpm, bought new at Sodbury but they weren't sure of the rpm. I tested the system on the old single phase motor and all the controls worked and reversed the flow so my idea is that I should get the twenty litres per minute that I need, hope to get more and the winch motor has more than enough torque to drive it, but as I'll use a contactor to power the pump as and when I need it if I can use an electric solenoid valve to reverse the flow I won't have to run the pump all the time. Its an idea that I've got in my head after the Slindon killed my electric winch again, if it doesn't work I can go back to running the pump from the engine, but as I'm running a V8 its sods law that when I need the winch the engine will be dead or something. Right let the p*s take begin, but I don't care I'll try it anyway. Bill
  20. Hallo oh wiseish ones OK output from the hydraulic pump at whatever bar, lots anyway, at present I have the manual set up to reverse the flow so in theory I can change direction of the winch, however its the lever type system so i've been thinking about electric solenoid valves, first drawback that I see will be control, it'll be either full speed forward or full speed reverse. Questions are, can you get progressive solenoid valves that don't cost a fortune and second, am I better off with two three port valves with the input teed to both or something like a five port shuttle valve. Any thoughts Cheers Bill
  21. Yes, well done guys, I had a couple of Trojans captured by my security system, suppose it was something to do with your problem, but being a technophobe don't know a lot more, i'd go for an annual fee, seems a good idea. Cheers bill
  22. Nige, I won't presume to say anything, but in w. Sussex there is a guy that I've used and don't know if you remember when one of the mags drag raced a defender, well hes the guy that prepared it and my mates series hybrid that also appeared in one of the monthlys, name of Fraser, if you want I can get his number, hes local and really does know his V8's. Good luck Bill
  23. Cor this is an old post newly resurrected, as a matter of interest didn't buy that one, but got another, from eblag of all places, full exchange engine 10000 miles before, brand new LPG system, seems this company buy vehicles, use them to teach how to fit LPG systems and sell them on, they manufacture them. The company is Websters marine and Autogas on 01922638666, and I can't speak more highly of a company, I have absolutely no connection with them, the guy, Dave Webster was extremely helpful and really knew what he was talking about( and he had a 110 in the drive) really happy with the Rangy, its got LR quirks, but what the heck. Cheers all for your advice. Bill
