  1. I got a MIG to do mine, don't know about ARC. Have you looked at http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/ ? A truely valuable forum, just like lr4x4 but on all types of welding.
  2. That is a brilliant video, and I am very envious! I want to do it now. I have a D3 and a 90. I have never had the D3 off road, maybe I should!
  3. I have always had mine as a snug fit. The rear ones on my old 1995 300tdi I even had to pack out with the lashing eyes there was that much free space!
  4. Hi Frax, As no other comments have been put forward, have you had a look on the paint section of mig welding uk? http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=41 I personally have no clue about painting but there does seem to be a lot of knowledge on the above forum. Hope it helps. Dunc.
  5. I watched it all on youtube earlier in the year. I missed it first time round. Great series, usefull too sometimes. I just like the presentation style. And Mark Evans is a Vet! Has he not got animals to look after?
  6. I known LandRover would use different parts manufacturers for a part at the same time. If stock ran out they would fit the other, so it could be possible two thread types where used at the same time I think.
  7. Heavy duty suspension(springs) was an option on a 90 Hard Top. So maybe the springs you have or are the heavy duty ones?
  8. It could even be something attached to your bulkhead behind your drivers seat, so it sounds like coming from the back.
  9. I also found www.chromefix.co.uk. I will get a quote from them and see what they say. Thanks.
  10. I recently too replaced all my springs for new, but mine where from 1997. I used genuine LandRover ones as from new. With mine, each corner is a different colour/rating. I don't recognize the colours that you listed and they are not listed in the techincal archive springs link http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=89. Are they genuine parts, or some other manufacturer?
  11. Has anyone ever had their swivel balls re plated? Is it worth the effort/ Or is it cheaper just to bin them and buy new? I am just thinking of maybe looking at getting the slightly pitted one I have just taken off re done as a spare rather than throwing it away.
  12. All back together now. Measurement from left hand wing to wall was 900mm. So if you have that much room the half shaft will come out ok.
  13. Generally, yes. However it does depend exactly what it is. Sometimes you need to know the engine number, or axle code for example. Some parts may even change at WA, so you need to then look at the chassis number bit after the WA.
  14. Well, the half shaft and cv came out with room to spare in the garage. I will take an exact measurement for future reference.
  15. All stripped down now. Not too much drama, but unfortunately the bottom swivel pin bolts have sheared, and so has one of the little 8mm bolts that holds the swivel seal retaining plate in. Both top and bottom pins themselves don't look worn at all, so hopefully just the bearings had worn. So now I need to order the swivel ball, some bolts and both pins. Then tomorrow night I will get rid of those, then when the bits come, put it all back together.
  16. Currently in the process of stripping down. Stopped for tea. Top pin doesn't look worn. Down to the stub axle so far. I have ordered a Bearmach swivel ball service kit from mailorder 4x4 but they are out of top pins for my chassis no, so I will order the new ball and pins later from elsewhere along with anything else I find I need.
  17. I have got to do the rebuild anyway. The ball is just starting to pit, and one shot is leaking. So I am going do it now rather than wait until it is worse.
  18. I have 1050mm from the inside edge of the brake disk to the wall, so I think I will be ok. Tonight it can all come apart then.
  19. I have a leaking swivel seal which has movement/play when the wheel is rocked at 12 and 6. Very similar to Les' technical archive thread http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=5601. Will I need to replace the top and bottom pins themselves or just the bearings to remove the play? Getting my shoping list ready for ordering, preferably prior to dismantling. Thanks
  20. Thanks Hybrid from Hell. A very usefull fact to have floating around in your head! Well for me anyway. Thanks. I will go measure up.
  21. The next job I have to do on my 90 is to refurb the left hand swivel housing, so I am planning the bits I need etc. I really want to be able to do the work in my garage but do not know if I have enough space to get the half shaft out as it is only a single width garage. I don't like working on my drive as it has quite a slope on it. My question is, does anybody know exactly how long a half shaft and cv is on the left side, and or how much space I need at the side of the vehicle in order to remove it? Thanks.
  22. That is not what happened, because I removed the track rod from the swivel housing on the relevant side, and moved it out of the way before I started on the radius arm nuts.
  23. Oxy Acetyline it was for me too Had another go at home, wasn't budging, just couldn't get enough heat into it with the blowlamp. Came off quite easily once he oxy Acetyline had been played over it. Now to go and buy a replacement.....
  24. I have been changing the front radius arm bushes this week, and knew that the near side trackrod end had a split rubber. So, all went well with the bushes, no great problems there. Arms off, down to the garage with the 50 ton press, old out and new in. Back home fit arm, new bolts and nuts, easy! Until it came to putting the near side track rod back on. I thought that I would wait until I had bought a new trackrod end this weekend so I was going to refit the trackrod today as it was. The nut would not even go back on the ball joint on the nearside as someone (not me as I have a proper ball joint splitter) has buggered up the thread a bit so the whole darn thing just turns. Ok, so lets start to change the track rod. Take it off the vehicle, clamp in vice lots of heat from the plumbers torch, lots of releasing fluid........NOTHING. Won't even budge! So I am going to leave soaking over night and try again tomorrow, but this time apply heat not in the vice. If that don't work its of to my mate with the oxy acetyline!
