  1. You wont be able to put the discs on your drum brake axle cause the axle casing is different between drums/discs. The drum brake axle casing doesnt have the mounts for calipers. You will be able to put your diff into the disc brake axle though depending on spline combination.
  2. I need to try make something to mount my toughbook but I need it to be adjustable so I can use it in either laptop or tablet mode. I thought about using the top part of a camcorder tripod as the adjustable bit, but then need to attach it somewhere somehow.
  3. Ive just bought a Panasonic CF-18 toughbook. They are little old now and fairly expensive for the spec but they are ideal for in the truck being only a 10" screen. The CF-18 is a tablet with a touch screen (that works with just your finger if you get the right model) and can take one hell of a beating. It also runs windows XP professional edition so can run all your mapping and sat nav software at the same time. When you are finished for the day just close the lid and chuck it in the back, literally
  4. Im not sure what you want to do will fit, you may have to put the CB in the top as it is slimmer than a radio, and then have it sitting proud as it may catch the radio at the rear. I used the same switches as you without the multiplug bits and you can see on the pics below they are quite tight against the gauge thats in there. Dan
  5. We've been out with him, Nick, a couple of years ago. We used their defenders (a 200Tdi and a TD5) There was only me and my g/f and a couple of other lads. We got there in the morning had a chat whilst waiting for the lads to turn up, when they did he chucked some keys at me and said you drive the Tdi we'll take the TD5 and off we popped. We swapped round between the TD5 and TDI a few times and i drove nearly all day (cause gf didnt want to do much), he just offers assistance with lines if needed. It was a excelent day out and if you've never been green laning you'll really enjoy it (though it is expensive if you use their cars) edit.... Just noticed this thread is a few years old
  6. I could nip to stelers but nearest one is about 30-35 mins away and i dont know what they are like, never been. Mike, wish i could afford the roof and sides at the mo, the pair of windows i've already bought only cost £26.

  9. I replaced the front discs on our 98 Disco Tdi while doing the swivel balls and also because the discs felt warped when braking. I fitted AP discs when re-building Looking at the discs they look like genuine LR items going off the codes stamped on them. But look how they had gone, it had passed a MOT not long before i changed them to.
  10. i know what its like doing your own website. No matter how many times you look at it, its right. Look the day after and you think, what did i type that for ive been slowly doing my site, only got pictures on there really so far, but got a few pages to upload soon. www.muckytruckin.co.uk might even do a swivel ball change page after the weekend
  11. ive got some glass out of a door, if i can find it tonight i'll measure it up. Can you not just buy some perspex and cut it yourself ? You could just measure the hole then and cut a bit at a time till it fit ?
  12. Your page says if its tight you need less shims and if its slack you need more. Isnt it the other way round ? if its tight you need more shims, if its slack take some out ? Ive got to replace a swivel ball on our Disco this weekend, if paddocks deliver on time! Dan.
  13. Thats why i changed the LR gauge for a electric temperature gauge (tim, that shows temperature) so i had a better idea of what the real engine temp was. Ok the new gauge may not be 100% accurate, but its 100% more accurate than a gauge with a white and red section that gives no indication of temperature. Having changed to the new temp gauge it confirmed my old gauge kind of worked as it should but its piece of mind you can actually see a real temperature reading.

Mine (200tdi) used to sit at top end of the white while motorway driving at 60 ish, anything over 60 and it would go very close to the red. i fitted a tims temp gauge that sat at 90-95 degree ish at 60 on motorway and would start to get to 100 if i tried to go above 60. Fitted a new radiator and it now sits at 90 degree at 70-75 in the hot weather we had afew weeks ago. The old radiator had no fins and the clogged with mud in patches.
  15. big vice and pair of stiltsons with a peice of scofold pole and brute force, thats what i had to use. Someone had to sit on the bench tho cause i was lifting it up before it finaly started to move. The other side just came of with mole grips
  16. I had to drill a extra hole each side for a A bar. It pulled back too much and had a big gap under the front if i didnt put the 3rd bolt in. Yes you can fit it without removing the bumper, but if you have a steering guard, you may have to remove that so you can get a nut on the bottom of the extra bolt, i did.
  17. Sorted now. Managed to get a new flange FOC. Turns out g/f's dad uses the same flange at work for various stuff. thanks for the help.
  18. Defo the flange. I could almost push the UJ cup out with my finger and a new one in with my finger. Its the right size UJ cause i had to press out the other half of the UJ from the prop in the vice. And whats tight in the prop cups is loose in the flange cups. Ive sent a few emails to prop places just waiting a reply.
  19. Does anyone know where i could get a flange for my front prop (1992 200tdi 90) My prop is in good cond but the UJ is loose in its seats in the flange. Its nice and tight in the prop and the other flange just the one flange thats loose. i cant find anywhere that sells them, only the full prop. cheers Dan.
  20. Could be a number of things really, or a comination of them all. Worn UJ's, worn half shafts, worn drive flanges or a worn diff, or just be normal. Dont think ive seen a defender/disco that doesnt roll a bit when you put the hand brake as it takes up the slack. Shouldnt think it would fail a MOT, cause the handbrake does work. Our 98 Disco thats only done 44k miles moves a bit when you apply the handbrake and come off the foot brake, not as much as my old defender tho
  21. My 1992 200Tdi warms up very quickly and the heater belts out heat . In Jan/Feb up in the hills of north wales doing some lanning surrounded by snow i had to keep turning the heater off as it was too hot. Ok its not exactly -30 but still cold up there that time of year. I do have a new heater matrix though, that would make a big difference as the old one was crudded up and only a small section of it got warm.

  23. have a look at this crank locking tool Ok u'll have to buy it, but if your going to be doing more than 1 cambelt in the near future then it will be worth it.
  24. a lot cant remember off the top of my head but its up somewhere like 280 Nm (for a 200 tdi) when i did mine i was slipping the clutch so couldnt get it any tighter, but today ive just got one of these from ebay crank locking tool so i can now re-tighten my crank (200 tdi) and do the Disco 300 Tdi cambelt we've got. edit. i am on about the damper bolt, not the belt tensioner, quoted wrong post here.
