  1. The screw sizes are all listed on warns parts diagram quite conveniently :-)

Gigglepin are good. Do not under any circumstances buy anything from Wrex racing (long story that involved having to get my money back from Visa). Alternately look at buying spares from amazon.com in the USA. I found it substantially cheaper to buy spares this way even with the postage, and they were through my door in about 4 days,

yes - I use m12s to fix to the bumper.

  2. Those bushes are never a terribly tight fit, however they shirk don't flop about. If in any doubt fit a new one.

I'd polish up the end of the drum as it'll help it last longer.

You can buy stainless fasteners the correct sizes from ebay.

I use the standard imperial ones where they tap into the casings, but the nuts and bolts that hold the top housing in I use M8.

  3. Yes - I have the later defender clutch pedal fitted to my series. It does make the pedal lighter, but you lose control and it makes slipping the clutch more difficult.

In the first instance however try unscrewing the bolt from the end of the pivot shaft, and screwing a grease nipple in and giving it a few pumps of grease. The pedal tends to sieze on the shaft otherwise. This can make the world of difference!

  4. Hybrid from Hell (Megasquirt V8 Limited) has a set of new old stock KAM 2.83:1 ones for sale for £375 for sale on his website. Significantly cheaper than buying directly from KAM. He will ship worldwide.

Details about half way down this page http://www.megasquirt-v8.co.uk/diff_axle.php

Website states out of stock as he's on holiday at the moment, but if you PM him on here he will probably reply.

  5. Jumping out of 1st/2nd if you've replaced the synchro mechanism already then have a look at the first/second speed gears. The teeth that the synchros lock into tend to wear also and will casue this. If youve had the replace the synchro already then the chances are that these gears are also worn.

Jumping out of reverse could be a number of things. Have you checked that the reverse gear stop bolt is correctly adjusted as it may be wrong and hence not allowing the detents to lock in. Failing that it could be either a bent or worn selector fork, or the fork being loose on the selector shaft (ive had this last one).

Firstly I assume you've checked that the castelated nut on the back of the mainshaft is tight and that there is no endfloat in the mainshaft?

  6. DVLA have very rarely issued Q plates in recent years. In fact I already thought that they had stopped issuing them.

These days depending on the components in use they either issue a new registration or an age related one. My mate built a caterham esque kit car recently using quite a number of used components (engine, gearbox, rear axle, front suspension etc). It was IVA tested and DVLA issued it with a modern 12 plated registration.

The one I wonder about would be requests for re-bodying a vehicle with an unmodified chassis (eg you bolt a fibreglass shell onto an unmodified range rover chassis and running gear) as at present these do not require an IVA test, and are dealt with via a VIC check. Does this mean that in the future DVLA are just going to allow re-bodies with a check, or are they going to force everything down the IVA route?

  7. I used Zues pistons when i did mine 10+ years ago. They are still fine today.

Only ever use genuine seal kits. They are not expensive - firstly its not worth taking the risk on anything safety critical, but secondly the seal retainers need to be so precisely sized that it quickly gets frustrating with cheapo items and they bend very easily!
